    "fascinating!" "fantastic!" I love the way Mears' commentary makes everything seem more fascinating than it really is... "lovely" "smashing" "brilliant" "spectacular"... Mears,.. although being an adult schoolboy type,.. is a good commentator and draws you right in. I've learned a lot from this guy about the place I grew up in.. Canada.

    I'm disappointed he didn't try to eat a high bush cranberry since he said they are a good fruit. They are one of the most bitter berries in the northern forest, he would have made an interesting face tasting it. My forestry instructor in college used to collect them and pass them out during class as a prank, he also said they were a nice berry lol.

    • @AD-kv9kj
      @AD-kv9kj 8 років тому +2

      Obviously he's well aware of what they taste like. There are many fruits which need to be cooked a certain way and with other ingredients before they lose their bitterness. If you need vitamins in the wilderness they are very rich.

    The bird in question was a seagull, and obviously eaten by a mammal. An eagle would've eaten it in the trees, and left a single large pile of refuse at the base of the tree.

    • @rosco1peco
      @rosco1peco 8 років тому

      +Dylan Lewis No, not really. They aren't poisonous from what I can recall but they have a foamy texture and a bad taste. They are classified as non-edible in all field guides I have read.

    Ha ha...funny comment, only I should be making it. None of the examples you cited: beautiful, fascinating, interesting etc. are superlatives. Superlatives are usually "est" adjectives like the ones I listed above. So, I don't see Ray's "overuse" of superlatives in the non-superlative examples you provided. Words like spectacular, and fantastic are much closer to the definition of hyperbole you offered. A quick read of any grammar text or site will confirm this. No need to be nasty.

  • @mantrop
    @mantrop 12 років тому

    I'll concede your list of adjectives don't quite rise to the level of hyperbole. But nor are they superlatives. Your original comment was. "...his overuse of superlatives"...which is not fair, because none of the adjectives you listed are superlatives; they are just gradable adjectives. If you claimed Ray had said "the most fantastic", or "the greatest..." then we are dealing with superlatives. Listing actual superlatives might have been a better way to prove you know what they are.
