Same with G2, Unicron Trilogy, etc., Stop whining about things and just ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE... Eventually, they'll produce what you want. 😉😅😅
@@shanehai2699 he wasn't whining about g1 tho? He was pointing out how most transformers fans only care about g1. Also, just because it's the original and we wouldn't have all the other stuff without it Yada Yada Yada, doesn't mean it's automatically the objective best.
I personally think that we're actually in one of the best moments of transformers right now. The thing that really has made all the WFC trilogy that great to me is the coherence in scale and styling, and the fact that we now have a minimum standard articulation. Of course the plastic is nothing compared to the materials they used to implement in the beginning of the line, but in comparison to what we've gotten in the last 10 years, now the plastic is in an acceptable degree. Another thing that I really consider an improvement is the engineering becoming ultra efficient, making the toys more intuitive while giving space por good articulation. The mayor downside has to be how irregular the QC has gotten, that's the big reason I try to keep me away from Studio series, even I do like the designs, but the geewan stuff and Beastwars too have been so far pretty solid. Now in terms of design, I do think the re imagining factor was great, but after re-imagining the designs tons of times in every single sub line, having some stuff closer to the source material was good too. Of course I really miss the old quality plastic and the separation of the clear to the solid plastic, but I do believe that the more clever engineering going on right now really makes up for the lacking points. Now I'm really concerned about the pricing, but is more because how stupidly expensive the dollar in my county has been in the last years goddamnit
Animated is definitely my favorite line. The figures are simple to transform, but they use that to great effect. The figures all try to do something unique.
Okay, THANK YOU. I’ve recently been looking to pad out my G1 ‘modern’ collection. Up until now I’d really only stuck to heavy IDW-centric stuff. (Gen Magnus, Springer, Skids, that sorta stuff!) But now I wanted to get the full cast. Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Tracks, .. and in choosing… I went with the ‘CHUG’ era ones. Like when looking to get a new Wheeljack (which just arrived today) I went with the Generations one. Someone asked me ‘why not just get the newest ones?’ And I couldn’t quite explain why I didn’t really love the look n feel of the new ones, but you hit the nail on the head. It’s about the quality, the heft, the feel. And in large part still also it’s simply because of aesthetic. The ‘older’ CHUC stuff just had more visually interesting designs and most importantly it had the most fun transformations. New ones feel too simplified. They’re effective, that’s for sure. But I love the creativity of the old ones, that would impact the robot mode more substantially.
My favorite line will always be cybertron. Because of nostalgia but I still play with my old cybertron toys and they hold up so well over a decade later. Also the designs are so kino and iconic.
A lot of people have said I am biased towards the older toys, and yeah I'm a bit biased towards em. But I do like newer toys, you saw the shelf I have a lot of em. But these three specific examples I like the old ones more. Probably should have added that in the video but hindsight is 20/20. Lol. Hope that clears that up
I actually very much agree with most of what you said. Yea “G1 accurate” is nice but I really like the new takes on characters which we don’t see that often.
My favorite lines will always be the 1/24th scale with seats/cockpits that can fit figures, so Human Alliance and Alternators. A lot of Transformers media have been about the interaction of Humans and Transformers so having those reflected in the toys will always fascinate me.
I'm definitely biased towards the newer ones because G1 was my childhood, and I was out of collecting from 2008 to 2018. To me, the current toys look like robots, but some of the older ones look like humans with armor pasted on. Red Alert really feels this way. I think the older Wheeljack's chest goes down too far. It looked like he's wearing a bib of some kind. That being said, I see Generations Sargent Kup is available for less than $20 USD on eBay, so I might give him a try. He's the one I like the best of the three you spotlighted.
For me, my first and favorite toy line was DOTM as in my opinion, some of them gave the definitive version of the character like sideswipe or ratchet. Never got the studio series version of these characters bc I saw no need, unfortunately I was too young to realize just how good generations figures were bc I didn’t know anything about g1 and when I came to, I realized what a good line I missed.
Dang, you really nailed it in many aspects, man! The newer figures merely give the illusion of fun. That's the truth. (They often lose their charm in a couple of hours.) Furthermore, Kup & Wheeljack also had C-Clip tech; while Red Alert was multi-presentable, over and above 5-mm compatibility & integrated weapon storage in both modes. (Clearly, the older designers were simply more passionate, man!) PS. Was there since the very beginning of Classics, then Henkei (2006 onwards).
I ended up replacing my Earthrise Wheeljack with the Kingdom one because the paint chipping was so bad, the silver for his mask was almost gone after a few months or maybe a year.
Thanks for remaining me why I passed on SS86 Kup, opting to keep my Gen. Sargent Kup (with the cygar head). Yeah some of the older figures could actual hold their weapons with 2 hands. Speaking of Optimus, I do like the Earthrise one, he's amazing but every now and then I have to mess with the old classics Prime. That thing feels like a WEAPON compared to the new ones.
In terms of new figures weapon storage, siege hound has a great way of doing it. The rifle plugging in underneath, the should cannon becoming a type of exhaust and the ammo clip becoming a sort of thing on the back. 9/10 for me
when talking about actually being toys, the unicron trilogy (mainly armada and cybertron but also some from energon) will always be my favourite. Armada megstron still stands on my desk.
I was born in 2000, with my first Transformers exposure being through the films/animated. The newer toylines feel so much more cookie cutter than the older stuff. Plastic quality and size of the older guys is unmatched by today's "standards." ROTF/HFTD is the pinnacle of Transformers toy design imo (also have a soft spot for DOTM, despite mechtech). HFTD Terradive is a masterwork of Transformers toy design that has yet to be topped.
Not sure this video was at all necessary. The new toys are objectively more show accurate and toon accurate, and many would argue (including myself) that we’re currently in the golden age of TF generations toys. But none of that matters because you very rarely look at these things with a proper eye because you’re so obsessed with the older toys. Which is totally fine, to each their own, but it doesn’t make for a good video concept when everyone following your channel knows no matter what you’ll choose old toys. Anyways, good luck moving forward.
@@papermelon It's their fault because they never allow me to enjoy the other Transformers cartoons I grew up with like Beast Wars, Unicron Trilogy,RID 2001, Animated, and Prime just because they're not like their precious favorite G1 cartoon.
*Old Generations was basically a mix of G1 and Bayverse BEFORE Bumblebee. In fact, some generations releases canonized characters into the Bayverse such as Lugnut!*
I like the Trilogy figures better, especially Earthrise and Kingdom, because they bring back the nostalgia from both the toys and the cartoon and many cases. I own the 3 old generations Lamborghinis (alert/swipe/streaker) and I don't really care for the robot mode. The old generations Kup truck is pretty sweet, but G1 Kup was one of my first three Transformers, (still own him) so yea... nostalgia again? I recently started collecting again almost solely due to the Trilogy line of toys. More attainable, afforable and G1 toy/cartoon accurate. Thanks for the videos!
Well old figures have no exact source material to be inspired by. Hence the designers have more freedom to engineer however they want the figure. While the g1 figures need to accomplish both an accurate robot mode and vehicle mode. And now old figures cost like crazy and I don't really like the articulation and design choices. Thus I prefer new ones better
If you want G1 accuracy then buy the masterpiece figures (though by all means, stay away from the Arcee figure). Granted they're very expensive and a lot of them are completely sold out, though if you can get your hands on some of them for a reasonable price, then go right ahead and get what you want.
I’d rather have the older ones because of build quality, charm, cleverness and creativity. Before the 2000’s is where I would want to *LIVE*! But it’s easier to get newer ones so I live in the new lands.
Generations/Reveal the Shield Jazz had some amazing Weapon Storage, like the gun was stored under the hood and the speakers were on his doors like that form of storage was absolutely amazing
lol I grew up with the Unicron trilogy but have loved every generation of toys tbh. I liked the old universe line, the movie lines, the new ones too. maybe some people just need to stop complaining
As an ex gunpla builder guy who just got into TF recently, i'm grateful to come here. My first Transformers figure is the Unique Toys Dragoon, which omg is what i can only describe as fall in love in first sight. I was at the time when i love Perfect Grade due to it's complexity and huge size, and at that time i was aiming to try PG Zeta because it amazed me of how great the engineering was to make such a huge and detailed robot to transform into a jet. But since its PG Zeta, it's so hard to find and until this day i can't find it. So i randomly watch Jobby, and this is where it all began. At that time, he just got the UT Dragoon. And boi, my jaw just dropped. I was like "A large robot who can turn into a jet and it's already pre built out of the box and i can just play with it ? YES PLEASE" and the rest was history. I still love Gunpla since well that's what i grew up with, but the fact that Transformers are actual sentient characters that can transform into vehicles instead of the mindless war machine that is the Mobile Suits just idk more appealing to me. So yeah, i'm glad finding out about this community 😁
In terms of looks and accessory storage I think we need to go back to 2008-2011 stuff, it was simply amazing, and we could at least experiment with making more complex transformations again.
Animated is probably my favourite. Partially nostalgia but also they just hold up so well. All of them have amazing joints and transformations. I feel like voyager optimus is a bit of a dud with the legs tho. Just so limiting in the knee bend. But still the way they look and play and feel they are easily my favourite
Update for anyone who cares. I’ve played more around with animated optimus and I am in love, there’s something there that I can’t put down. He jumped off the screen and I’m willing to forgive the faults. Still a kick ass line I will always love
I own pritty much all the current and generation and G1 figures . When I look back when I collected generations Red Alert , Wheeljack ect there was always this feeling in the fandom we loved them but we just wanted what was in the cartoon . Now we are getting that and I have to say IV not had any real QC issues ect with any of them I'm pritty much happy (if anything I'm looking at my masterpiece collection and wondering if I'll sell some lol) but the other side effect from getting what you want is now I can relax and appreciate the generations figures alot more as there not my definitive rendition of that character and I love playing with them alot more . Keep up the good work btw love your content 🙂
I have a bit of a sad story. That Generations Wheeljack was the first Generations figure I ever got as a kid. When I first unboxed it, it immediately became my favorite Transformer and I played with it all the time. Then literally after only two weeks of having that figure, I took it with me to my grandparents and played with it in the sand and the gears got jammed. It wouldn't transform anymore so I had to get rid of it. Then when Earthrise Wheeljack came out, I was obsessed with getting that figure to refill the void my last Wheeljack left in my life. It was a decent figure, but sadly, it didn't fully live up to my expectations. Although looking back at the original, I would say the ER version at least looks better to me, but I still miss the OG alot
I think overall its very dependant on the figure. Both lines have big ups and downs. I think the newer lines have definitely made their quality and standards in terms of transformation and articulation more consistent, but that means you get less stand out figures. The older lines to me, were a bit all over the place. You'd get some incredible figures, but others were just ok. Some of the newer stuff just feels like a mini masterpiece though. Earthrise prime and kingdom cyclonus are incredible, with kingdom rodimus being arguably better than the masterpiece.
I love the old stuff even tho i dont have much of it but RoTF was amazing to me, when I got back into the scene of Transformers I never thought kids had trouble with transformations, it always kinda amazed my grandparents on how i can transform figures without the instructions and even today i find that being the most enjoyable part (I guess it was cuz where i live and went to school a lot of kids had traditional action figures while i chose transformers any day over that) I find myself itching for older figures recently but with Legacy im excited to see where we go design wise (plz i just want IDW characters like Ironfist and Guzzle or Unicron Trilogy characters like Tidal Wave). Also I'd love to see these videos now and then I think its a great series as a kind of look back for newer fans and i love it!
Okay I'm glad I'm not crazy about the black plastic LOL. For some reason in Earthrise, a ton of the black plastic looked kinda green under a light or if I painted black on it, it would look very different. IDK if that's a Covid thing or because every trilogy has the weak toyline with less funding (which was Earthrise for WFC) but it was something I kept noticing.
I don't know this for a fact, but I always thought that a lot of Alternators designers probably went on to work on Classics because there's a lot of thought put into the alt modes and the way they interact with the robot mode.
I respect your opinion but don't share it. Generations Wheeljack/Turbo Tracks looks like a lower price point Bayformer. Like Leadfoot or Topspin Wreckers he has a potbelly and spindly legs. Vehicle mode has lots of style but not enough to make up for the robot. Old Red Alert looks like a G1 repaint on Unicron Trilogy. Ot a bad thing, but paint him blue and watch him pop.i do agree with you on Kup. The old Generations mold is a vast improvement. He looks like a pick up and he looks like a grizzled vet who has a war story for every occasion. I'd go: Earthrise Wheeljack, Kingdom Red Alert for G1 and old Red Alert for Unicron Trilogy, and Generations/Thrilling 30 for Kup.
I own all of those old figures. And while I miss some of the paint and extra parts, I'll take the new ones 99 out of a 100 times. My whole life I've wanted upgraded versions of what I had and saw as a kid. I love this new era. I especially love the updated BW characters we've been getting since Kingdom, like the upcoming Silverbolt.
you should see my kup. not only does he have the igear head, which improves him 100%, but ive made him look "old". hes got scrape marks that make him look like hes ran into more than a few things or flipped over ond skid on his roof; hes got bullet holes and laser burns (aka carbon scoring) in select places to make it look like hes been in some stuff; and generous (yet tasteful) slathering of rust in some places. he really looks like he hasnt had time to take care of himself, or he wears it all as a badge of honor. guy looks like hes been through years of battles now
Even though they're bigger and presumably have better quality plastic (I've only been collection Transformers for a few years), the new figures seem a lot cleaner and better proportioned than the older ones, source material accurate or not.
I think it all really depends on one’s priorities. I used to be the guy who would have gotten all 3 Kups. Nowadays I’d probably only get one, maybe two considering the uniqueness of the 2012 version. Though I’d probably go with the Titans Return Kup as opposed to the Studio Series, G1 accurate enough for my taste while still being a well built figure! Typically, my first priority is a functional and good looking robot mode, what that look is doesn’t matter. What does matter is how that figure looks among other figures (ex: Cliffjumper has to be the same height as Bumblebee; the Seekers all need to be the same mold; etc). Matching aesthetic is also important to me. Not to say that a Cybertron mold doesn’t have a place on my Generations shelf, but sitting Botcon Scourge next to Kingdom Cyclonus doesn’t look right to me. So a lot of times I get a lot of newer figures because of their more unified aesthetic.
Recently got inspired to start building up my CHUG-scaled Autobot display (comprised of old CHUG figures and the newer SS/WFC toys). My MakeToys Striker Manus is my stand-in for Orion Pax, and I've got Classics Bumblebee but no Wheeljack. This video just made me wanna grab Classics Wheeljack off of another collector's hands.
I like SS86 Kup, but his head is weird, and the QC seems to vary wildly, Generations is very panelled and has a backpack, though I love the headsculpt. Kingdom Red Alert is far superior to the old one, the legs are ugly, the head is messy, and the Kingdom one is just better overall imo. ER Wheeljack is pretty good, a bit stumpy, but not too bad, the offwhite just looks disgusting though. Hope he gets either a premium finish or gen selects repaint. The old one is odd, but in a charming way.
Honestly this makes me wonder what fucking mind blowing Transformers we'd have now if we got the engineering advancements of the last few years but plastic prices had stayed the same. Like imagine how the kingdom Sideswipe mold would've turned out with the build quality of the universe one.
Oh, also, I REALLY miss the stylized aesthetic of pre WFC. I love the toys, and I do appreciate that they don't use g1 accuracy as an excuse to leave out sculpted detail, but the new aesthetic doesn't do it for me nearly as much.
Personally I prefer the newer figures because they have better body proportions and as the video says, they look better for display. Agree with the weapons storage issue, Generations Arcee in car mode had a specially prepared gap to store the big and for the small gun there was slot placed between the hands keeping them in place.
I’d honestly extend the golden age back to 2006 or whatever year cybertron was. I have immense fondness for the cybertron toys I have and I honestly wish I took better care of them as a kid as I try to piece them back together.
red alert as a lamboghini is so much cooler than the ambulance. in my head canon, wheeljack will always be a New Edge 2004 Mustang from Randall Ng and Dr Smoov G1 videos
I missed out on collecting anything from the early 2000 for the most part, the only exception being a Sargent Kup (with Cy-Gar head swap), because I saw it and couldn't bear to pass it up. that being said I've gotten a lot of joy out of the newer figures, and I will add that my SS 86 Kup seems to have much tighter pegs for his limbs than yours as he rarely comes apart without direct intent to do so (funny side point, his pegs are the same style as the Weaponizers/Fossilizers, and that has lead to many play shenanigans) so that's a Your Mileage May Vary point. I can see the joy in both, but not having the funds to go hunting the older stuff, I'll kindly enjoy getting the new kids to rebuild my collection 😁
Seems like we're getting smaller figures that cost more than the older ones. I kept all of these older versions. They really are that good to either leave in alt mode or just have a different take on them.
Dude I love your reviews, I love your content I can respect your biases towards old toys, I actually don't collect much TFs but I do enjoy them, but..... I feel like your Video Essay or writing could be a bit better in this, yes I know you're biased to the old stuff I respect that but it just became so stale I fell out the video midway Just commenting here idk if I'm just not getting it but I honestly think your script could've been better written cause hearing "the old stuff is so much better" 100 times gets kinda stale. Not hatin dude believe me I just don't think this was that well written.
Yeah I will agree with you on that a bit. This was longer than my normal content and having to write a long script was a bit meh for me. It def could have been done a bit better. Thanks for the feedback
Hey man I wanna see you succeed and I love the fact u take a look at olds figures cause they were really really good. Goodluck mate u still got a lot of videos here I dig a bunch so DW I'm not just throwing random shade
It's not all inflation; it's the Hasbro pattern. They make a decent figure, raise the price, then slack off on the next run. I'm guessing when the sales start to drop they up the quality, up the price to compensate, and repeat the process. They've done this all the way back to G1 and it gets old.
What you WANT is Titans Return Kup. Hands down the best Kup. It's awesome. Although I do prefer the Hasbro one over the Takara, but both are better than these two Kups.
I've been collecting CHUG since 2006 with Classics Op/Megatron. I have the Sergeant Kup and Unitied Wheeljack in this video. I agree with you on Kup. I was tempted in getting the SS86 one,but I felt the headsculpt was bad and the arms look too emaciated. 2011 Kup looks old and grizzled in a good way imo. However some older figures were duds like Universe Galvatron. Kingdom Galvatron is probably the finest CHUG iteration of him. I do like them experimenting with alt modes sometimes like Universr Onslaught and his swat form. Siege Ironhide is significantly better than Universe Ironhide imo. I'm just rambling but this was a good idea for a video.
The problem with SS86 Kup head is the angled chin they added, making the face longer and giving him a comical frown. I shaved some of the chin off and he looks way better or mine now, with a shorter face giving him a sterner look.
SS86/Buzworthy KUP Was SUPPOSED TO HAVE His Ams & Legs EASILY Detach, As It Was For 86-Film Fans To Recreate The Scene Where The Sharkticons Dismantled Him! You'd MOST LIKELY Ridiclue The Waist & Legs Of Classics Mirage!
To this day, I still pass on some new molds because there's a better version on my shelf that's over 8 years old. But the latest WFC trilogy has the absolute best licensed Generations figures in general so far.
I think my problem with the older ones you showcased is that despite their vehicle modes, which are great, the robot modes just look super unpolished. I don't know what it is but while they do sort of look like the character, they feel kind of messy with the design, and I appreciate that the newer stuff almost always has a certain etiquette to them that makes them look like actual anatomy.
Best comparison is that the newer stuff looks more like season 2 beast wars toys like the transmetals and fuzors, where the old stuff is like the first year. It's definitely not bad, but you look at rhinox cheetor dinobot and Wolfang, and then compare it to transmetal cheetor, quickstrike, and Injector.
@@AwesomeMooseSmile I agree with red alert and wheeljack to an extent, but generations kup looks amazing in robot mode. He dosent look unpolished at all imo
Here I was envious of your new red alert. Ready for you to bash the old figures. What a twist that the old ones are quite competitive with current generations. I collected all of these, definitely was a good, affordable time to collect. I really like the cybertron/galaxy force toys. The cybertron Defense team up against modern generations decepticons is not a fair fight.
i split the difference by keeping certain redecoes of the older toys in my collection. for 201 Kup, i still have Botcon Electro. for the 2008 Lambo mold, i still have Funpub Punch/Counterpunch, and for Wheeljack i still have.....SG Tracks
It still baffles me that they didn't go for the stark white with ER Wheeljack and the stained white for Exhaust, I know that they base him on the Diaclone car that has the Marlboro design, but it would make MUCH more sense for the cigarette brand car to be a yellowed white.
Old G vs New G. OG- Fantastic Sculpts, some different iterations with unique details. Price=cheap. NG- Fantastic Sculpts closer to G1 counterparts( show, comic, and box art). Some figs lack detail like previous iterations. Price= Pricey + Scarce!!!
gotta agree on a lot of what you said. I much prefer the philosophy of chug at its beginning rather than g1 with knees, though most of these old designs feel a bit wonky now. wheeljack is chubby, red alert is a bit weird, Silverbolt wears his plane as a cape etc... where modern figures have far more articulation and look a lot more purposeful. Yet, I think both types of lines blend well together, mix and matching it is the best option imo. though my favourite is customizing the Prime line figures into more g1 looks
It’s definitely true that 2008-2011 was the Golden Age of Transformers designs. But today’s the best age of G1 remakes, ever. Unfortunately they can’t make toys like they used to. Although, I love both of those Kups. The first one was an amazing militant redesign while the 86 one feels exactly like the animation model. Sure, its arms come off easily but is otherwise perfect. I don’t own the siege Sideswipe mold or Earthrise Wheeljack mold, but both of the originals definitely seem more fun and both the new ones feel like dulled down MP figures, which I already own. I’d personally love to see both design philosophies again side by side, like it was for the Thrilling Thirty toyline.
Check out part two for the other side of the argument:ua-cam.com/video/Bo-tnnQ_WBc/v-deo.html
if we could somehow marry the transformations and vibes of the older chug figures with the proportions of modern ones, we'd have perfect toys imo
That would be the dream
Hidden or not, I think kingdom Huffer’s weapon storage is brilliant.
Agreed
Agreed best weapon storage ever
And Cyberverse Adventures Deluxe Bumblebee , also earthrise Sunstreaker
And besides
His weapon looks like the Spartan laser from Halo
I also prefer fresh takes, but isn't this also the first time they've made highly accurate g1 figures in the mainline? I could be wrong, but I think every other time has been an homage rather than an actual attempt to recreate what we see onscreen with modern tech. I say let them have it, I'll be happy as long as I get some interesting figures.
My favorite era is probably rotf / hftd too. I feel like they really hit their stride with movie toys or (even better) movie-like toys. Original designs that were not limited by a model made for the screen, yet still had the engineering and aesthetic.
Question is, couldn't other fans just think about something else instead of just G1?? I mean the Alternators series were my favorite toy series in the 2000's because of the realism their car modes looked like.

Secondly, even if I DON'T LIKE a particular TF line, I STILL respect where it came from (G1) and what it represents, with the potential to be something really good... Even that Bay crap, which I hate watching and 97% of the toys, occasionally has some good stuff.
Basically, it begins AND ends with G1, whether anyone likes it or not. That's just how it is.
Constantly whining around about it doesn't do YOU, or anyone else, any good, BUT IT does annoy people, like that constantly buzzing around in your face little gnat during the summer... JUST saying.
Learn to appreciate, or at least develop some respect for certain things, instead of whining relentlessly about them. You'll be a lot happier in life. ALSO, THIS IS A HOBBY, learn to ENJOY it!!! Don't let it control your life.
For the record, as I mentioned, I'm NOT a G2 OR BW/BM fan, BUT when Hasbro produces a GOOD updated (G3) figure derived from those lines, I buy it. I've bought several of the BW inspired Kingdom figures this past year, ALONG WITH those G1/G1 Movie updated figures, and I look forward to hopefully picking up some 2001 RiD inspired update figures for my collection, as I still have MOST of the figures from that line, but would love G3 versions... Same with G2, Unicron Trilogy, etc.,
Stop whining about things and just ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE... Eventually, they'll produce what you want. 😉😅😅
@@shanehai2699 Ok
Plus they look like they came out of the TV especially jazz and bulkhead there awesome
Okay, THANK YOU.
I’ve recently been looking to pad out my G1 ‘modern’ collection. Up until now I’d really only stuck to heavy IDW-centric stuff. (Gen Magnus, Springer, Skids, that sorta stuff!)
But now I wanted to get the full cast.
Lol. Hope that clears that up
@@babylonknights1160 I got a universe cyclonus and movie smokescreen for about 20 bucks
Blurr is my pick for the worst SS86 figure thus far. I really like Kup.
@@UnfaithfulServant97 seriously man that sucks I was going to by it! So how bad was it?
@@preceptorprime2894 agree to disagree. I really like SS86 Blurr. To each their own though.
@@megamasher3 ok but I’m still skeptical now
I actually very much agree with most of what you said. Yea “G1 accurate” is nice but I really like the new takes on characters which we don’t see that often.
My favorite TRANSFORMERS toy lines are The Unicron Trilogy, The first five movies, Beast Wars, Seige and Kingdom.
My favorite lines will always be the 1/24th scale with seats/cockpits that can fit figures, so Human Alliance and Alternators. A lot of Transformers media have been about the interaction of Humans and Transformers so having those reflected in the toys will always fascinate me.
No thing can stop or beat the art of the nostalgia lmao
I'd love for this to be a ongoing series. I love when people compare the old stuff to the new stuff.
The best part about the older transformers is that they have plastic molded in color while the new ones have painted plastic which chips off over time
Dang, you really nailed it in many aspects, man! The newer figures merely give the illusion of fun. That's the truth. (They often lose their charm in a couple of hours.)
Furthermore, Kup & Wheeljack also had C-Clip tech; while Red Alert was multi-presentable, over and above 5-mm compatibility & integrated weapon storage in both modes. (Clearly, the older designers were simply more passionate, man!)
PS. Was there since the very beginning of Classics, then Henkei (2006 onwards).
My favorite transformers toyline of 2000's is animated, I missed those days of transformers toys...
I ended up replacing my Earthrise Wheeljack with the Kingdom one because the paint chipping was so bad, the silver for his mask was almost gone after a few months or maybe a year.
I prefer some of the older generations because they don't just look like an exact g1 figure
It's more like a shotgun than a sniper rifle, honestly.
9/10 for me
Hound was my first transformer to WFC and man I remember how much of a kid I was playing with it. I haven’t felt that way since Armada.
when talking about actually being toys, the unicron trilogy (mainly armada and cybertron but also some from energon) will always be my favourite. Armada megstron still stands on my desk.
I grew up with those so I know I'm biased but unicron trilogy stuff is just so fun ya it has its lemons but some of those gimmicks can be a blast
I was born in 2000, with my first Transformers exposure being through the films/animated. The newer toylines feel so much more cookie cutter than the older stuff. Plastic quality and size of the older guys is unmatched by today's "standards."
ROTF/HFTD is the pinnacle of Transformers toy design imo (also have a soft spot for DOTM, despite mechtech).
Who cares? It's the fans' own fault for being obsessed with G1 since that's all they ever care about.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002 what? 😂😂😂
@@papermelon It's their fault because they never allow me to enjoy the other Transformers cartoons I grew up with like Beast Wars, Unicron Trilogy,RID 2001, Animated, and Prime just because they're not like their precious favorite G1 cartoon.
I love the hftd, dotm, prime first edition and rid toy lines mainly because those were the ones Out when I first really got into transformer
What....I love the 86 Kup. Mine has joints that fit great. His arms and legs fall off to recreate when he lost them in the movie....love it.
In terms of looks and accessory storage I think we need to go back to 2008-2011 stuff, it was simply amazing, and we could at least experiment with making more complex transformations again.
Chug back then is to make a fun toy that transforms, Chug now is to make a good action figure that transforms.
Siege red alert is amazing. Still haven't got the earth mode one. But red alert is what got me collecting again.
I got the Sergent Kup years ago and I love the old model truck mode SO much. So solidly designed, and feels so right on the stubborn old grump.
The old Kup definitely needs the iGear head upgrade, the default one is so ghoulish
Also, funny he motioned Subaru Impreza with Wheeljack, because that's the exact first car I got. Better not drive it in the sand LOL!
Man those older figures are just so much better than the newer ones
That red alert got repainted into sideswipe, sunstreaker, and punch-counterpunch
The old one is odd, but in a charming way.
now is the golden age for looks, definitely not for price and quality of materials.
I love transformers new and old! I still play with my Cybertron Optimus and Wing Saber Set! Things a beast and deals so nice.
My favorite will always & forever be Cybertron and Animated. More so animated.
Personally I prefer the newer figures because they have better body proportions and as the video says, they look better for display.
Agree with the weapons storage issue, Generations Arcee in car mode had a specially prepared gap to store the big and for the small gun there was slot placed between the hands keeping them in place.
Why do you hate old stuff so much? :/
While I do sometimes enjoy stylized looks, I'm more for cartoon accuracy. But you do make some very valid points.
"G-1 TRANSFORMERS","ALL DAY"! 💪💪
I’d honestly extend the golden age back to 2006 or whatever year cybertron was. I have immense fondness for the cybertron toys I have and I honestly wish I took better care of them as a kid as I try to piece them back together.
Huh, what did you change you finally popped back up on my recommend feeds? Kudos., great vids.
I have had zero issues with my SS86 Kup. I know a lot of people complain but I love it.
I always saw Kup as something like captain price from the mw cod games the old one is exactly that especially with the sniper
Out of all the lines, my favorites are definitely hunt for the deceptions and thrilling 30
While show accuracy is cool, I miss gimmicks, like lights and sound, mech tech, etc
red alert as a lamboghini is so much cooler than the ambulance. in my head canon, wheeljack will always be a New Edge 2004 Mustang from Randall Ng and Dr Smoov G1 videos
I'm personally excited for the new wheeljack that's coming out it looks fun
Dude I love your reviews, I love your content I can respect your biases towards old toys, I actually don't collect much TFs but I do enjoy them, but.....
I feel like your Video Essay or writing could be a bit better in this, yes I know you're biased to the old stuff I respect that but it just became so stale I fell out the video midway
Just commenting here idk if I'm just not getting it but I honestly think your script could've been better written cause hearing "the old stuff is so much better" 100 times gets kinda stale.
Appreciate it bro
Not sure if I'd call what we're in a golden age, but more like a renaissance, like the disney renaissance from The Little Mermaid onwards
It's not all inflation; it's the Hasbro pattern. They make a decent figure, raise the price, then slack off on the next run.
I'm guessing when the sales start to drop they up the quality, up the price to compensate, and repeat the process.
They've done this all the way back to G1 and it gets old.
its weird to knock a studio series figure 86 for being the original design
What you WANT is Titans Return Kup. Hands down the best Kup. It's awesome. Although I do prefer the Hasbro one over the Takara, but both are better than these two Kups.
Thrilling 30 era is probably my favorite era
Im still upset we never got Orion Pax retooled into Kup. I think that would have been a great figure.

To this day, I still pass on some new molds because there's a better version on my shelf that's over 8 years old. But the latest WFC trilogy has the absolute best licensed Generations figures in general so far.
I think the old ones where thought for kids, to be played.
And the new ones are for collectors, to be displayed

Dude, don't you have anything else to do besides hating the old Beast Wars toys?? besides show accuracy is overrated.
This what we called evolution they fit the market on time they release. Transformation follows the Astethic of the design.
i split the difference by keeping certain redecoes of the older toys in my collection. for 201 Kup, i still have Botcon Electro. for the 2008 Lambo mold, i still have Funpub Punch/Counterpunch, and for Wheeljack i still have.....SG Tracks
It still baffles me that they didn't go for the stark white with ER Wheeljack and the stained white for Exhaust, I know that they base him on the Diaclone car that has the Marlboro design, but it would make MUCH more sense for the cigarette brand car to be a yellowed white.
to get the flying mode for wheeljack, you just fold the back tires 90 degrees and pop the doors making it lying down and voila flight mode.
I love the old Generations Transformers.
Definitely need to get a Kingdom Wheeljack. I have the Earthrise one and his windshield bits broke.
gotta agree on a lot of what you said.
Funny story, I actually got the old Gen kup at economics for 1 dollar, sadly no weapon, but every part of the figure was there. Not even loose. 😏
Ok, that's fine but...
If Legacy makes my Beast Wars childhood all G1 blocky?? That's it, my life as a Beast Wars fan is over :(
The conclusion is:"old good","new bad"
For the most part, that statement is accurate. There aren't many figures these days that are better than older versions
@@izzik2781 Depends on the person. For example I feel the opposite as I think that there are few older figures that beat new ones.
I 100% agree with I also favor the older transformers figures
