The interviews with the designer of the classics Mirage were what pushed me into toy design! Love that toy! Snagged up the Machine Wars version at a store for $30 and am still impressed with that toy.
Old Mirage is such a beautiful figure to me, even if lanky, I think he did a great job taking the best of the G1 version with how the shoulders, boots and overall car parts are distributed. But I agree, his "gun" is just a Nerf Doubledealer
Some of the old CHUG are kind of neat. I actually like Grapple and Mirage. Would like their newer ones, but get repaints of the older molds. Mirage had Crasher made for TFTM named Fracture, so it's a keeper if you have that version. Customize the CHUG Inferno mold to Pyro or get the TFCC version.
The War for Cybertron figures were absolutely awful for exclusives. Mirage, Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl and Sideswipe Earth modes were all exclusives. And ones that were almost impossible to find here in the uk. If you were willing to pay above the already inflated retail price then great, if not then say bye bye to your chances of getting all the G1 cast.
The old Mirage may not look like the Mirage silhouette, but it definitely looks really cool. Kingdom Inferno is my favorite Kingdom figure next to Cyclonus. It's just got so much posability and the upgrade kit I have for it makes it a mini masterpiece.
When I heard we were getting inferno in kingdom line I was like "MY QUEEN!" this inferno isn't bad.. it's just not the inferno I was expecting to get in a beast wars wave.
Personally for me, I vastly prefer the Classics Mirage. Yeah the lack of thigh swivels and the kinda lame gun sucks, but everything else is really good to me. I like the more slender proportions and the very sleek alt mode, not to mention he still basically has modern articulation. Inferno is a little weird, as I think the G1 designs are ridiculously bland (especially Grapple) but the new molds are way more solid then the old. My set up is Kingdom Inferno and RTS Grapple so they have different bodies, but there really isn't one that's perfect for me.
Kingdom was a really fantastic line, the whole WFC trilogy along with ss 86. The old figures are good as well, mirage was a cool looking not, but should have been someone else
Like you, I much prefer the new ones here. I've customized my Mirage with parts and labels so he now has a proper shoulder canon. As for vehicle mode, the old CHUG Inferno/Grapple mold was based on a more modern Pierce Contender firetruck, where as the Kingdom is of course based on his G1 vehicle as it resembles the Mitsubishi Fuso. Mirage has always been an F-1 racer, but neither of them follow the lead in going with the actual vehicle the G1 car was based on. Either way they both work but I agree with you that the new one is nicer overall.
Agreed, the grimlock is totally an accessory. He stays in dino mode and the kingdom grimlock uses him like a pet... Also, inferno is based on an old Japanese fire truck from the 50's or something...

Agreed. The older RedAlert and Wheeljack molds suffer a lot by today's designs, although I still love that Wheeljack car mode from the past. I'm glad I have RTS Tracks to fill that need. SolarStormGrappel is still my main display piece due to his size and alt mode, while I have moved away from the old Mirage and replaced it with the Seige one. The EarthRise Mirage wasn't worth obtaining, especially with that dinobot accessory, exclusivity and price... oh, and the missing shoulder port. Always something holding these guys back from perfection.
@@RPO808 I like when a design in undeniably the g1 character but not slavish to it, the old lines were really good at it, like, solar storm grapple is undeniably Grapple, sergeant Kup in undeniably Kup etc.. but they still do their own thing for the better. can't believe how big the old figures are in comparison to the new figures, and they costed much less than the new ones too. If there's one thing at least most older figures win at, it's giving you your money's worth on the price to volume ratio. Otherwise, I agree, the new ones in this case are better. I really wish I had Inferno. I just never saw him in stores and Mirage wasn't that attainable for me both because he's an exclusive and because I don't do much online shopping yet.
I enjoy these videos a ton, and I admire your humor, opinions, and information. I feel more involved watching your content then others. Couldn’t really tell you how or why. Keep it up!
I really liked Classics Mirage. Just pick one up at a local shop. A funnier Transformation and better looking Alt mold. Wish the head was bigger though. I like to leave the weapon on mine to fill out the skinny waist. As someone how just started collecting Transformers I'm glad we got the Earthrise and Kingdom G1 inspired figures. What a great time to get into these toys.
You perfectly summed up my feelings with Kingdom Mirage. He wasn´t available in Europe until the begining of this year, he´s exclusive to Amazon and he´s in a two pack with a Beast Wars figure, which I couldn´t care less about!!!!! Dammit Hasbro.
While the WFC figures were made to have more G1 accuracy, the older generations were made as more of an homage, so that's really left to preference. I love the newer line's articulation, but the vehicle modes on the older ones are pretty amazing. My collection is an amalgamation of CHUG throughout the years, and I like that I have a a choice when it comes to who's on the shelf. Some win out because of their "look" while others stay because of their size. All I know is that it's a great time to be a Transformers fan and collector.
WFC (and studio 86) has provided us with a unified look for the G1 characters, which is really what G1 CHUG collectors want. It’s a shame when you get a great run of molds and then Itonhide and ratchet show up and...oh man.
This is why I collected virtually everything to do with Transformers except the toys...until WFC...and the I went back to the toys. The old G1 toys across the years largely look terrible, although there are a few exceptions, but WFC and then SS86 have knocked it out of the park. It brought me back to the toys as I was still in the hobby, but in many ways, other than more expensive MPs, these toys are a dream come true. It's nice to get cartoon accurate without having to go 3P. They aren't perfect in every case, as Mirzge for example, isn't perfect at all, but toys like Inferno, Grapple and others such as Cyclonus, they really are so wonderful.
Fair points against the classics mirage. I'm biased toward it because it's just weird enough to my liking, but it does have its limits that the modern toys don't. Tho I do love being able to cheat an ab crunch out of him by slightly undoing the bot mode.
Oh, wow, I actually love the old Classics Mirage. I love his slick design and the way he transforms. I used to mess with him constantly. I never mess with the Siege mold. I got the Decepticon version of that since I like the colors a lot. Grapple / Inferno I'll give you - it's a weird design. But I liked it enough to keep - there are more toys I want and characters I like more. Plus ... I like the way the old ones scale more. I know, TFs and scale, but when it comes to cars I want it to work and I think it kinda does with the older mold. The scale in bot mode is less important to me. He can be a larger guy.
@@LaneBassingthwaite This. The characters are more ironic for their robot modes than alt modes. Sure you can doo-Dee-doo or swoosh the alt modes but you can't pose them as well.
I agree with the vehicle modes needing to be more accurate, especially when it comes to the car bots. Inferno is supposed to be large anyway, so I don't see the big deal when it comes to robot scale with him and Grappel. If I were concerned about bot scale more I would have refused to buy the titan class figures.
@@LaneBassingthwaite Yeah, that's understandable. And I can agree when it comes to some characters. But it's always bothered me to see stuff like tiny cars turn into tiny TFs. Yes, I am looking at you Bumblebee. I hated it even as a kid. Robots that turn into cars should look right next to each other even if that means BB isn't the smallest Autobot. I can't win when it comes to tanks, planes, and every single other alt mode, but cars? That's something I can work with. And that also means old Inferno works better - for me - than the new one.
The old classics mirage is beauty of a toy. Is he 100% g1 accurate? No, but he wasn't trying to be. He's painted far better than Kingdom, & the alt mode is perfection. The looseness on your copy and the mismatched is probably just due to age. My copy has firm joints, and my blues match just fine. The new one just makes too many mistakes, no shoulder port, the autobot logo misprint, and just how unpainted that F1 car mode is.
i can't wait for the next comparison, though i would have personally gone with 2007 premium bumblebee and ROTF sideswipe up against their more current studio series counterparts. cheers
tbh, a lot of 2-packs do have that "*figure* is an accessory to *other figure*" factor and if it's a 2-pack with Deluxe/Voyager and a small Legion class figure - it feels like that a lot more
So in essence, it's mixed bag. I like the new ones, but the older ones feel more solid. Though I prefer the new ones because they finally applied better articulation.
I think the thing that's improved most over the years is consistency tbh. Like, there were some really high highs back in the day, but there were also some really low lows. Nowadays, even if you get a figure that kinda isn't as good as its wavemates for whatever reason, it's still gonna be leagues ahead of what a bad toy in a wave *used* to be.
The peg on my Kingdom Inferno's ladder was too loose to hold the nozzle, so what I did was that I put a small drop of superglue on the ladder peg and spread it around with a wooden toothpick so I didn't end up tightening the slot on the nozzle itself, and that worked perfectly for me! Just in case it's something you might wanna try. Living in Ireland is pain if you collect mainline figures because pffffffft good luck with those exclusives.
Sure the old ones are nostalgic to most but usually they ither have articulation issues or stability issues. Surprisingly more than the new ones. I could think of a few but i might get yelled at.
The universe grapple/inferno is based off a pump truck rather than a ladder truck but they slapped a ladder/crane on top anyhow. Classics Mirage alt mode is definitely inspired by Cyber Formula and the futuristic car designs from that show
ss grappel has the benefit of pegs not breaking off into the feet when transforming, but inferno also fixed that problem. fortunately there are cheap 3rd party add-ons that give mirage the shoulder ports hastak stupidly forgot. i mean even siege and netflix decepticon versions of the mold included those so its near inexcusable to leave them off for kingdom. even the pack in accessory grimlock doesnt make up for that!
While I prefer the new mirage I think the old grapple and inferno is better by far. I actually like the clunky nature, but it’s the size that made me track them down for sure.
The only thing I disliked about Kingdom Mirage was the shoulder rocket port, or rather lack of one, other than that he is pretty much perfect. Inferno I feel is flawless, he fixed the only two issues I had with ER Grapple: color breakup and those pegs on the back.
Man if its alright with you I might make my own comparison of inferno n dollar grapple, picked them both up a couple weeks ago and while I think Inferno is superior quality the overall esthetic of grapple and the shelf presence he has make him a way more stand out figure in my mind. I'm also bias since I LOVE the block n chunky look of energon/RiD designs
Can u make some more videos on the mini figures like the cang toys and fans toys, I already know imma get em but seeing reviews is always better before hand
I like the old inferno mold in robot mode. The hands are a big one for me. I think the molded fist hands for a 5mm peg are lazy and we are well past that. But clear glass never looks great in alt mode for me even with seats but that’s just how I feel when displaying alt modes. I would prefer a more toon accurate vehicle most of the time. I had that old mirage but was too tall to fit anywhere in my displays
I went with the RTS Inferno for my CHUG only because of the size. I like to change up my display and transform them back and forth and Inferno is just way too small lol (Simular to the Astrotrain situation) he should be big lol
The Newer toys for beast formers hide screws better which i like. And i feel like autobots never evolved over time but decepticons have But idk could be my personal pick ups for figures
Personally, I feel you chose some of the worse newer figures. Inferno essentially accomplishes being accurate to the Sunbow G1 design, meaning it accomplishes being an absolute bore of a design. Although the Sunbow design at least had the bulk to back it up, which the Kingdom version is severely missing. Grapple is just sheer perfection, making an instant win. Both modes are just complete bulk, which I feel is as it should be, and both have interesting designs that just serve as pure eye-candy, which I feel is a big problem with modern figures. Kingdom Mirage is honestly a big letdown. It honestly just doesn’t have enough detail to back it up, and the Siege version manages to have a more Earth-looking mode than the Kingdom version! The Kingdom version’s alt mode honestly looks like a complete eye-sore to look at. Classics Mirage is the easy victor here, although I’m not sure if it’d be the same if it was a comparison between the Classics version and the Siege version. The sleek and lanky design honestly plays in to the whole “Spy” feeling that comes with his invisibility ability compared to the bulky Kingdom version. The alt-mode also looks like It’s actually from Earth, which instantly blows the Kingdom version out of the water. In the end, the old figures win by a LONG mile. Although, it really depends on the figure. Say I had a choice between the WFC Trilogy versions of Tracks and Trailbreaker or the Universe and T30 versions of Tracks and Trailbreaker, I’d definitely choose the WFC Trilogy version.
I still can't believe tfsource did you like that it's one thing to sell something used as new by accident but when you bring it up they go back an change the listing that's ridiculous
In my case I prefer the Classics Mirage, because of his stylized look in Robot mode. The articulation is OK for its time, I mean, it has ankle pivots, and even in Robot mode the weapon stores quite well. The new one looks bland, similar to a Gobot and I literally hate the wheels on his feet. In Inferno/Grapple, I would choose the new ones, because aside that they are more G1 accurate and very good in articulation and transformation, I felt like the CHUGs ones were really ugly and their alt modes empty.
I'll be honest, I regret buying kingdom inferno. People kept telling me he was good but I don't get the hype. The alt mode legs for the arms is a pitiful connection and makes handling the vehicle not fun. The articulation is fine but it's just underwhelming and I wish I hadn't bought it. Most interesting part of the figure for me was his gun since it looks like a generic FPS gun. Can't speak for the old one since I don't have it.
1. TFsource is a terrible site to buy from ngl 2. Onto my opinions Solarstorm Grappel is the first version of the mold like ER Grapple but unlike ER grapple he didn't break. Grappel is a figure that is weird but also more fun to handle IMO. As someone who has handled the old Inferno, Inferno compared to Inferno I feel is on par but they are nothing in comparison to Inferno in Legacy. Classics Mirage meanwhile... its alright, you have to get the first batch in order to get better joints because that was a mold that degraded fast, Crasher/Fracture is a floppy mess and Dragstrip from that mold just never stands up from what every copy I seen has had. Also I love the design ngl, the crossbow-F1 Front is a creative but kinda stupidly handled idea IMO. Ultimately I am not a big fan of Mirage.
Well you said you liked the new ones this time so now the G1ers won't hound you in the comments. I prefer the old Mirage, it's a unique design instead of being a brick like almost everyone else and the old Inferno mold is one of the worst toys of that era.
@@nickvang7 You did't have to, the TF 'community' today is mostly G1ers. I don't know why they'd prefer the old Inferno and I don't think that is an accurate comment at all.

I don’t really like either mirage to be honest, one’s too bulky the other with bad pose-ability. I’m honestly just waiting for the rise of the beasts one
for generations line or basically for the CHUG line I preffer old version, their stylization. those new ones looks like small masterpiece figures and that's makes me hate them cause I want masterpiece line to do those characters with that design and not generations line that are toys, cause everyone can say anything but generations are still just toys that looks better.

A realistic and different take on the transformers
Some of my favorite older Gen figures compared to the newer ones have to be the Srgt Kup mold, the Rts Tracks mold, and Cw Magnus, among others.
Classics Mirage looks more like modern Indy Car, surprisingly predicting windshields on them
I prefer my Power Of The Prime's Inferno over my Kingdom one; but if I still had my Energon one it would be at the top of the list.
I’m surprised you didn’t use Ironhide for this
The only thing I disliked about Kingdom Mirage was the shoulder rocket port, or rather lack of one, other than that he is pretty much perfect. Inferno I feel is flawless, he fixed the only two issues I had with ER Grapple: color breakup and those pegs on the back.
TTG: makes a lot of videos, like “Why I stopped buying Generations”
Also TTG: “Why people think I hate new Generations toys?”
People's opinions can change over time. Like how I like new generations now
Yep, I bought the set for Mirage and got a Grimlock with it that I wasn't really interested in.
I had the United Artfire, based on the Classics/RTS Inferno/Grappel - and it was super floppy, straight from the box.
I love these alot you need to make more
Man if its alright with you I might make my own comparison of inferno n dollar grapple, picked them both up a couple weeks ago and while I think Inferno is superior quality the overall esthetic of grapple and the shelf presence he has make him a way more stand out figure in my mind.
I'm also bias since I LOVE the block n chunky look of energon/RiD designs
Can u make some more videos on the mini figures like the cang toys and fans toys, I already know imma get em but seeing reviews is always better before hand
For me anyway I feel like siege Optimus prime is probably one of the better representations of Optimus
I think classics mirage would work really well as a RID Skid-Z
I haven’t owned the U08 Inferno mold, eyeing RTS Grapple. Leaving that bumper up in robot intended transformation isn’t great lol
You can fix the shoulder rocket on mirage by attaching wheeljacks gun to his back then the rocket
I had that old mirage but was too tall to fit anywhere in my displays
woah. you get right to the point. hell yea
It’s really case by case. I would take the new ones in a heartbeat in this video but I much prefer old generation warpath and springer
Hey bro what happens you part 1
I went with the RTS Inferno for my CHUG only because of the size. I like to change up my display and transform them back and forth and Inferno is just way too small lol (Simular to the Astrotrain situation) he should be big lol
Fun Fact : Classics Mirage was used in transformers earth wars
The Newer toys for beast formers hide screws better which i like.
And i feel like autobots never evolved over time but decepticons have
But idk could be my personal pick ups for figures
I kinda want that Reveal the Shield Mirage even though I have the Siege Decepticon Mirage
It's funny bc while I have neither Mirage, I have Generations Inferno and Earthrise Grapple so I still get what you're saying kinda
Where are the G1 toys?
Drlockdown might be pissed off about what u say about the old mirage
I had the rts mirage but I forgot what happened to it
I'm nuts about articulation so I can't go back to og CHUG, as much as I prefer the aesthetic
yeah been burned by TFsource 2-3 times ,ill be more money to not order with them
In my case I prefer the Classics Mirage, because of his stylized look in Robot mode.
I remember getting Classics Mirage when I was like 7 and constantly being infuriated with the "feet". It's just as weird as I remembered it lmao
1. TFsource is a terrible site to buy from ngl
2. Onto my opinions
Solarstorm Grappel is the first version of the mold like ER Grapple but unlike ER grapple he didn't break.
Do u have a video on the big yellow and purple transformers 13:25
its tonkanator lollllll
Personally I liked the Power of the Prime Inferno.
Well you said you liked the new ones this time so now the G1ers won't hound you in the comments. I prefer the old Mirage, it's a unique design instead of being a brick like almost everyone else and the old Inferno mold is one of the worst toys of that era.
Bro your opinions in these two comparison videos are like the exact opposite of the community's popular opinions
G1ers prefer the old Inferno?
Man's got some weird takes but he stands by them so that's pretty based.
@@ultimateblaze23 When did I say G1ers?
@@nickvang7 You did't have to, the TF 'community' today is mostly G1ers. I don't know why they'd prefer the old Inferno and I don't think that is an accurate comment at all.
the tab that goes in to the foot is vehicle mode for kingdom inferno snaped of while i was transforming
Can someone help me out as I’m getting back into transformers after collect mostly from the first 3 Bay movies, but who are the two on the right and left of Mirage at 6:14.
Wait… can inferno pooth?
