La madre del punk, Nina Hagen regresa, a sus 67 años, este 2023. "Unity" es el primer álbum de la alemana en 11 años, desde 'Volksbeat' (2011), publicado el mes pasado contiene doce temas. La canción que da nombre al disco cuenta con la colaboración de la leyenda del funk George Clinton y fue compuesto a modo de homenaje al movimiento Black Lives Matter. Pero el disco incluye más piezas singulares como "16 Tons", una canción del músico country y western Merle Travis que ella revisiona para llevarla su terreno, en un single que evoca la dura vida de un minero del carbón en Kentucky. En "Unity" Hagen se acerca al funky y al dancepop. Siguiendo su línea de hacer lo que le parece sin importar lo que digan los demás. La voz siempre teatral de Nina Hagen afirma su fe en Dios y en el amor a los animales, desde los años ochenta es una respetada activista social , sobretodo en su natal Alemania, así que alguna de las canciones versa sobre la necesidad de unión de las personas ante algunas problemáticas sociales.
