This remarkable musician just walks upon the stage, plays this incredibly difficult piece of Bach as though anyone, anyone could do it, and then leaves the stage as if nothing had happened. The sign of a very great artist.
There is magic afoot in this short masterpiece. I love the flourish with the bow at the end of the piece. It says to me "This is the most beautiful music. I, Hilary Hahn, love 'Gigue' with all my heart!" So do I, Hilary! So do I! Hilary played this as an encore to Beethoven with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Before playing it, Hilary spoke the magical incantation, "Gigue, by Bach!" I do so wish I had been there and will never forget that performance ... and that flourish with the bow. Hahn's signature!
Her Beethoven was beyond belief. The best ever....and the response of the audience was awesome. She deserved every hoot and holler. It was pure magic ..... a special moment captured in time for all us mortals.
Hilary is a rare phenomenon. Let us also acknowledge that note for note, J.S. Bach is the greatest composer of music that has ever lived. I'm saying that as someone who is a big fan of any music genre in any period under the sun.
She does it at the end of most performances and I love watching it. It's very mesmerising, and while some might interpret it as arrogance or something, one only has to take a look at her smile to know otherwise. The way she can so powerfully yet to delicately and controlled pull it off the instrument and flick it backward with her wrist is amazing.
I'm sure this take years and years to master but she made it look so easy as if I could just grab a violin and do it. But in reality I would probably just ugly cry.
It looks as though it took as much effort to play this enormously difficult piece as it would me, had I sang the first few lines of a lullaby to a kiddie going to sleep. In other words she plays in such an effortless way it is astounding. What an artist. Dear Frankfurt orchestra, please invite her back !! By the way you are a wonderful, wonderful German orchestra!
Fantastic performance. Hilary Hahn achieved an exceptional level of virtuosity. She is the best violinist of the century- perhaps of all time. I love Hilary Hahn. She is simply wonderful!
It’s hard to determine (between violin virtuosos) who is the best because they’re all very very skilled I think what you mean is that you prefer Hilary’s playing than the others.
I like the Performance and for everyone takes the venture to performing in a stage is honoring and respect. Bach - si clear-minded to be so perfect and pure .
This appears to be the encore from that breathtaking Bruch Concerto performance. It would be nice if we could see this this encore at the end of the Bruch as it originally appeared. It would put this fabulous concert in better context. As you might guess I'm in total awe of Hilary's performances and music. If only I could have shared these performances with my Dad. He would have been super impressed as well. Hilary, you are a treasure !

She fits her performance to suit the orchestra. She typically only gets two rehersals with any given orchestra for a piece. The orchestra would need to be on her level and have more practice time to not affect her so.
I don't know if a professional violinist would forget something like that. That would be like you performing at a violin concert and forgetting your violin.

she's such an amazing artist. She gets better than her bach recordings in her twenties though they were already at the level of masterpiece.
Her solo Bach recording was from her *teens* not her twenties. ;-)
She had just turned 17 when the first part of that recording was made.
@kesofat well time is relative anyway according to Einstein and as such tempo is as well :-)

The way she lets the music start flowing is just incredible.
This lady keeps impressing me. Will there ever be a better violinist?
Merlin Mijdus She and Vengerov are the best
Sure. There are already "better" violonists right now (though "better" is to a large degree subjective and meaningless).
Try James Ehnes

This is the easiest movement in the partita. If you’re starting from the start it’s harder cause of the preludio
