I saw him a long time ago. I don't remember where it was. Maybe Basingstoke?.. But he was in a bush! And he was wearing a red dress! Very strange! (LMAO)
His early stuff reminds me of when you get chatting to the quiet person at a party and they turn out to be hillarious. Awkward, querky and amusing is a great combination.
Early Acaster was still finding his feet. His gotten a lot more confident on the stage in the last 10 years and has become one of the best standups in the UK these days.
That series Hypothetical he did with Josh Widdicombe was great as well. He's genuinely hilarious. Also he has an ongoing podcast with Ed Gamble that currently has 192 episodes
Seeing as you watch both James and Rowan videos, here's something James talked about in one of his specials: James Acaster's ex left him for Rowan Atkinson!
Wow, early Acaster is both vocally and expressively dialled down to 50% compared to his current outraged levels 😆 Such soft tones coming from his voice. I know you perceive him as awkward, and many people do, but he's confident, so to me it's not awkward just eccentric. I'm constantly reminded of a young Michael Caine, not surprising since they're from the same neck of the woods. "you're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" -- James Acaster
I saw James in Liverpool when he was doing his pre-edinburgh festival material. He did an amazing bit about a Mariachi band and Yoko Ono. It was what made me fall in love with his comedy. So surreal, but brilliantly crafted. If anyone knows where I can find this bit online tag me. It was soooooooo good!
Miss Mandy bringin' the Acaster to the masses, what a great public service! I'd never seen this one before, and now I have, why? because Mandy. And it was great. And you are great 🙌🙏🤗 thankyou, from the bottom of my funnybone. Go have yourself an apple 🍎
I disagree with @RavenZahadoom in that I think Acaster was super funny right out of the blocks. He might have felt a long way from home here (mainly because he was) but I think he had full control of the material and played it masterfully. Nice to see you, as always.
I agree with you both. He was funny, but to me he has gotten even funnier as he's found his footing and has become more confident. I've seen this same material of his in a different clip, where I think his delivery is more on point.
I've only just realised what your mic is. In all the videos I have watch I always thought you were sitting with your left leg bent and perched on your chair and your knee was sticking into frame!
I would recommend to you that you react to Top Gear. The whole show is massive in episode count, so more specifically, the Top Gear Specials. It would be truly amazing to see somebody react to those. Granted, you couldn't get away with showing the whole thing unedited like with An Idiot Abroad, so it would definitely add editing to list of things to do. Would be truly awesome though.
Thanks for Awkward Acaster. Who would have guessed a stand-up with bits about apple and apricots would end up in the long running food podcast Off Menu? For me, then shy James funnier than now shouty James.
Question for Miranda, Do you still do the singing? If so have you tried any songs by Fairground attraction, the female singer has a gorgeous sweet voice, it has highs and lows, one song Find my love, might be a good one for you to try or Perfect
I thought his performance in this one was kinda dull. But it got me thinking: They would have to tweak the famous line for me. If my 18 to 21 year old self had an apple a day (like my 18 to 21 year old self sure wished for & really needed), my current self wouldn't feel the need for a doctor. (Mental). Cause, it's like life already passed by, yet I'm still waiting for life to start. (Never had the chance). So, every day I'm sitting around like 😠. So many others had an apple a day when THEY were 18 to 21, so THEIR current self has stories to tell. My lack of a story is my story. It's THAT part (the lack of a story), THAT'S where I could use the doctor (mental). To clarify, I probably would have gone for more of an apple per month, than per day. At the time, I felt like I would have been a wild one, if I could have, but not THAT wild.
Meh, it's troubling that so many people choose to use "woke" as a slur against what is really just empathy. Do some people take "wokeness" too far? Absolutely. There's always people who take things too far, on any side of any argument, and it's tedious. But on the other hand, I'm always wary of people who think bullying is funny, whether or not they realize they're being a bully or an accomplice to bullying.
James is an odd bod but in a funny way... not sure his humour would be properly understood globally but those in The oceanic islands will get it. Aussies, NZ and even the Canadians are all very similar. Hope you are well x
Hey, Mandy. This comment has nothing to with this video. I'm just commenting it here because it's your most recent video. I would have preferred to say this in a private message but i can't see how to do it. Anyway, delete this after you read it if you want... I fucking knew there was something about you that pulled me to you! I don't remember what the video was because i've been watching so many of your videos lately, but you were touching on (your own) mental health issues without outright saying it. I'm sorry. I wanted to say this in private. Been, there, done that. Anytime. I got you! Reach out to me if you can if you want to. I hope this isn't weird. Delete it after you read, but i hope you understand it. You don't know me. I just recognised you as someone like me.
I saw him a week or two back, a small room above a pub, testing new material, and it turned into a q&a. It was unreal. he's incredible
I saw him a long time ago. I don't remember where it was. Maybe Basingstoke?.. But he was in a bush! And he was wearing a red dress! Very strange! (LMAO)
Which town, may I ask? :D

I think it was the crowd that was still finding Acaster.

Hi Mandy. I like him on shows, but usually not his stand up.
glad you enjoyed him.

I love when clips are new to you guys too! 🙌🏻🤗
I appreciate anyone that utilizes Steve Hughes methods to set up jokes. He's a legend.
This made me want an apple! 😋
That was great, love a bit of Acaster!
24 hours on a plane from England to New Zealand and he talks about peaches and apples. 😂😂
He's fkn brilliant, his delivery is superb
James Acaster has a truly unique comedic voice. A lot of comedians are like other comedians. James is quintessentially James.
GP means general practitioner, a type of doctor.
What's the longest Australians or New Zealanders can go without saying "Australia" or "New Zealand"?
Yay doing something from new zealand (where I live)

I highly recommend "James Acaster on Mock The Week Series" just search that & there should be 5 videos, 13,14,15,16 & 17.
I just watched your other James Acaster stand up. What a coincidence.
That was food for thought... 🙃
He's a quirky one, but I like his unique style of humour. Always good for a laugh.
Next time I go to a party or festival I'm bringing an actual apple
This is the first time I've seen James doing early stuff. He's changed quite a bit but then also hasn't.
Mandy in the thumbnail always gets a laugh out of me looks like she's having fun
This raises the question, if you were an apple which type would you be?
Golden Delicious? lol
Cox's or Pink Lady🤔
A Jonathan apple, niche but mild and arguably delicious.
Well i never Mandy. He seemed so strange on this one.
I reckon as its so far from the UK he was suffering from jet lag.😂
I've only just realised what your mic is. In all the videos I have watch I always thought you were sitting with your left leg bent and perched on your chair and your knee was sticking into frame!
Haha, eveyone thinks the same thing 😅😅😅
Mandys apples bring all the boys to the orchard
8:06 is probably the best laugh I’ve ever heard
I present to you: my "this is akward" laugh. Lol, that belongs in the Super Mario World 😅

If the lovely Ms MC didn't exist, someone would have to invent her. The world is an incomparably better place for this amazing lady's presence.
Settle down simp 😂
🙈🙈🙈 Thank you so much! 🥹🫶🏻

James Acaster's Brexit-Peppermint Tea comparison from Mock the Week was the smartest thing anyone ever said about Brexit.

I like James but he is not as good as The Undertaker Vs Mankind Hell in a Cell match, video below this 😅😂😂

The most enjoyable part was your reaction, Mandy - James's Apple/orchard analogy was a bit meh for me, but ok for an early attempt, I guess. 🙂🙏
Thank you Micky 🤗🤗
Good morning the Lovely Miranda.
He's very good. I prefer his bit on cheese graters. 😜 His political views can be a bit woke but he's a real talent.
