You really didn't need to remove the splash shield on that SUV. You could see the oil filter and the oil pan drain with it installed. i realize there are some models you might have to do it on, but it can be such a PITA!

You really should have attempted to remove the bottom bolt to replace the small o-ring. I had the same trouble with it, so I didn't attempt it. I drive very few miles each year and will try to remove it during the next oil change.
Fill the cartridge since it’s easy to do and the filter is upright. No reason not to. Use a funnel!! No way you adding 6 without spilling. That’s just pure half baked. Checking dipstick with empty cartridge is pretty useless since car had not been started

Yes, I have done my 2017 many times. No splash shield removal needed. 5.8 qts of 0w20 synthetic.
why remove the splash shield? the filter and drain was exposed with shield in place!
@ 4:35 the oil filter cup torque spec is not 30 ft/lbs! It's 18 ft/lbs.

Great information. It'll never go that smoothly for me, but now I can see the process. That tip on the fine vs coarse thread was excellent. Thanks
Is it 6.4 qt? Manual says of 5.8 qt. for V6 motor..
BTW, using the funnel prevents oil spill quite well.
