    Been 5 year , I finally put some time to to replace all the spark plug on my 2016 highlander. Pretty easy, only hard parts is the 3 spark plug on the back because how tight it was behide there. I won't have to do this for another 5 year. Hhaha or I say 50k miles

    Hi how are you doing? I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE right. Do I need to take my car to the Service Department at the Toyota Dealer so they can replace my spark plugs or can I buy it myself & do it myself? I ask because they are charging me over $700. Can you help please

      Make sure you get the gaskets for the intake manifold and throttle body.

    • @Zeek800
      @Zeek800 8 місяців тому +2

      95k miles? That’s too long. Toyota recommends 60,000 miles but 55,000 to 65,000 works too. The Denso plugs are the proper Toyota Parts but when I search I get two Denso plugs for my 2017 Highlander ( different engine in 2017, still a 3.5 litre but some changes were made ). The first Denso plugs looked like the ones in this video but the second plugs had what looked like a “ triple tip “ over the electrodes. The other differences were the first ones are pregapped to I believe it’s around .40 and the second type of plugs is gapped at around .31. The 1st plugs are a bit cheaper than the 2nd type of plugs. DON’T adjust the gaps they come preset. If you remove the throttle body and its hoses you have better access to that 12mm bolt in the back of the intake behind the throttle body and can get the intake right out of the way. I would say to replace the intake gasket and the throttle body gasket and to get some CRC Throttle body cleaner ( don’t use carb cleanser or anything else ) and clean the throttle body ( Yountube it there’s a few things you need to know about what to do ) it wouldn’t hurt to get a can of MAF sensor cleaner and clean that too.

      @@Zeek800is it easier to remove the wiper blades and the shroud, instead of the throttle body? I saw one guy remove the shroud instead to get to the back plugs.

      Since it's the front left I would just change the spark plug since they cheap. Also put in a Injector Cleaner in the gas tank and fill up with 93. But that code could be spark plug, coil pack or fuel Injector. But start with the spark plugs first

      I think they are due at 10 years or 110k miles, you are fine for awhile. Atleast was for my 13 Lexus ES350....did mine this year took a few hours and didnt have to remove the intake just the cowl.

    If you don’t wanna do yourself but wanna save money. At least buy the OEM spark plugs online because it’ll be much cheaper than dealer since they will charge 3 times the price.
    If you want to save even more money, change the front 3 yourself and then you only have to pay for the labor cost for the back row spark plugs. My sister’s car went from $1700 to $500. Since Her back row spark plugs and ignition coils went bad.

    • @AJIMPORTS

      Toyota recommend 100k. Personally I would do them 50k or 4 to 5 years for any car. It's cheap insurance once you know how to do the job your self.

      Original spark plugs on this engine are Denso iridium plugs and Toyota recommends 144 monts or 120k miles. Changing them at 50k is basicaly stupidity. I have currently 126k on them and will thinking about replacing around 135-140k as the car has mainly highway miles.

    You should never drop spark plug. When installing, always use a magnetic device or use a plastic pipe. You just literally dropped the spark plug in the borehole that will mess up the gap.
