What I love about your recent drafts especially, but also you in general, is your ability to approach drafts like a game designer rather than a minmaxer. Minsc and Boo was so obviously the p1p1, but if I wanted someone who just did what I would do, I'd be drafting myself. Awesome to see someone interested in pushing the cube to its limits like this.
That second match was so painful to watch. Loving the vids as per usual though! Edit: Just watched match 3 too. This is why I prefer watching people cube rather than do it myself. It's already so frustrating to watch these non-games as an observer. Must be way worse actually piloting it. So thanks for playing all these vids and sharing the good times with us :).
im sure its already been said, but questing beast gets around mom since it says that damage cant be prevented. totally understandable tho you have to read to page five subsection two of its textbox to see that
17:15 I think Valgavoth’s onslaught was secretly really good in this deck. Puts a bunch of cards into yard, makes 2/2s and then puts counters on those 2/2s
@@CalebGannonbecause those cards are all pretty trash without bazaar Problem is that they aren’t even very good with bazaar And honestly there isn’t really much you can do to make bazaar a competitive vintage cube archetype, I like your cube but you basically had to nerf all the normal archetypes to make the interesting synergies competitive
I’m still trophying with Hogaak decks this season and I think they are sweet. I was down for supporting it more but the community doesn’t like synergy > raw power (sadly) I think half supporting archetypes is totally fine, most archetypes are half supported. Even reanimator could be “more supported” but it still is a good archetype. Is the Caleb Gannon cube updated? The gamers loved that one even tho the masses never will (sadly)
51:35 stuff like Minsc and Boo just turns MTG into a gacha game (especially Arknights), where assembling synergies just feels unrewarding compared to just gambling for the latest flavor of the month
13:22 You started saying, "Cradle is great, if I have a good draw. This deck..." I thought the next part of that was, "...doesn't have good draws." lol
Only at 25:00 so maybe it comes up later but Koma also has trample. So picking etali over it because of the trample was a mute point. (I think koma would have been a decent mainboard inclusion for shallow grave in general)
The thing is there's not really a minsc and boo deck, you just put minsc and boo in your deck and if you draw it on curve you win. You can put whatever else you want in there, it doesn't really matter
Caleb, what do you think about Bowmasters? Curious on the pick of Grist over it, but also definitely agree that Grist has great synergy with your deck. But what are your overall thoughts on the card's power level and design? Cheers!
I dislike it strongly. It just does everything with basically no risk cost or downside. I think the new double red card that damages players when they draw is what Bowmasters should be.
51:18 agree , cards like minsc and boo , and more generally planeswalkers i think was a poor design decision , so much of the joy of deck building is about assembling a rube-goldberg engine of synergy , and planeswalkers tend to just offer everything on one card , including a win con and self defense and on and on , and would actually prefer a board state with nothing on it except them , i think they were really bad for the game design .
9:41 It wasn't that great? IT WAS THE MVP OF THE MATCH (Kinda joking with that, bu i remember that it was just a 2/2 haste and that was somehow always relevant haha)
It seems like you think using Thespian Stage on your opponent's Dark Depths is actually a good plan. I don't think I've ever seen someone actually pay MSRP for Marit Lage.
@@daltonbrasier5491 Yep this is my bad, I was mixing up this interaction with Vesuva entering with the counters and I thought the legend rule was essential to the interaction. Sorry for the confusion!
21:25 Questing Beast’s commonly forgotten 74th line of text stops damage from being prevented, so mom wouldn’t have done anything
They would have gained three life, but year. Lurrus woulda ate dirt.
He also mentions it having haste because of anger at 20:00 forgetting that it already has haste because of its 16th keyword
mentioning it had haste was most definitely a joke lol
This is like the third comment I’ve seen from you saying it was a joke. I know you were joking but apparently you have to be more sarcastic lol
@@mitchhak2 yeah lol apparently. I think I convey sarcasm more with my face which obviously doesn't come across in these videos
P1P1 - objectively the wrong pick... and I am here for it!
100% I'm still in for the hogak-stippi

“anger was not that great” oh come on anger beat down destroyed those opponents lol
Seeing you pass some powerful/fun cards like boo and bow masters was tough....but I love the dedication and end result.
So funny how much you love scrapwork mutt but also you use it soooo well. Thanks for posting again!
I am halfway through the initial draft, and I'm like 99% sure this deck is going to be the most entertaining thing I've ever seen on UA-cam.
I think the only draft that compares is when LSV drafted Lorthos in Zendikar. lol
daily caleb is such a treat

21:30 Actually Questing Beast's damage WOULD still go through... because Questing Beast.
In the cube straight up Gaakin' it
Anger surveilled into the graveyard was some HOT VALUE
We miss you in pauper ❤
I love that you commented on how beautiful the Bob Ross lands are
Physically hurt to not even hear about the bowmasters P2P1
P2p1 ez bowmasters. Even if we aren’t taking the best cards, which it is, 2 bodies for hagaak
Also pretty good with Survival: Discard a Fatty for Reanimation later, get a cheap must-kill threat as Bowmasters
This was a fun draft to watch. I think I disagreed with 90% of your picks, but the deck came together so you were definitely doing something right!
This deck is my jam. So fun to watch! Shame the games just didn't pan out past round 1 :(
im sure its already been said, but questing beast gets around mom since it says that damage cant be prevented. totally understandable tho you have to read to page five subsection two of its textbox to see that
Love the cube content! :)
17:15 I think Valgavoth’s onslaught was secretly really good in this deck. Puts a bunch of cards into yard, makes 2/2s and then puts counters on those 2/2s
In the second round when you just hovered over the thespian stage and giggled 😭
Pretty easy to forget questing beast stops protection I’ve had several opponents either block with mom or true name
The cube had squee master of death and both rootwallas bit the community basically rioted so they had to be removed
Lol why did they riot?
@@CalebGannonbecause those cards are all pretty trash without bazaar

Then they should cut anger and hogaak and stuff. Half supporting an archetype is so much worse than not supporting it at all.

yep my cube is up to date! Also what do your hogaak decks look like?
51:35 stuff like Minsc and Boo just turns MTG into a gacha game (especially Arknights), where assembling synergies just feels unrewarding compared to just gambling for the latest flavor of the month
yep, its really sad
Unreal tables. You got lucky
ahhh yes. The 4 mana 2/2 haste, aka the best card in the cube
13:22 You started saying, "Cradle is great, if I have a good draw. This deck..." I thought the next part of that was, "...doesn't have good draws." lol
Give them that gaak gaak Caleb!
So its more like a value based graveyard archetype than a strictly combo geared one
Only at 25:00 so maybe it comes up later but Koma also has trample. So picking etali over it because of the trample was a mute point.
(I think koma would have been a decent mainboard inclusion for shallow grave in general)
can you tell me why you didnt consider taiga over blood crypt more? seems reeally good with the foothills...
I think I would’ve more highly rated the ability of wrenn and 6 to make bazaar more playable, because then you can discard lands more freely
I want to see a mink and boo deck. You talk about how broken it is, but I don't think I've seen you take it recently
The thing is there's not really a minsc and boo deck, you just put minsc and boo in your deck and if you draw it on curve you win. You can put whatever else you want in there, it doesn't really matter
Bob Ross Secret Lair lands!
released 1 minute ago. Don't mind if I do!
I think your tool for automatic cutting silence failed between round 1 and 2
Oof sorry about that, thanks for letting me know! It's wild how striking that silence was haha.
No worries, I just knew you had a tool for that and therefore might not have noticed it

"Questing Beast has haste because of Anger" oh my sweet summer child that is also in the Questing Beast text box :)
That was the joke lol
Please read all 101 lines of questing beast.

Not taking bow masters just seems incorrect… no?
reading the card explains the card except when its Questing Beast fook that book
9:41 It wasn't that great? IT WAS THE MVP OF THE MATCH (Kinda joking with that, bu i remember that it was just a 2/2 haste and that was somehow always relevant haha)
first :3

because it is a good plan? I get a free 20/20 out of it.
Thespian stage copies the depths but doesn't enter so it has no counters which then sacrifices itself and gives you a 20/20.
@@daltonbrasier5491 Yep this is my bad, I was mixing up this interaction with Vesuva entering with the counters and I thought the legend rule was essential to the interaction. Sorry for the confusion!
