How Good Is The Low Rider S for Distance Riding?
Вставка

- I got a softail low rider s because I wanted to travel longer distance, and on a sportster it was rather painful. So I wanted to talk about whether or not the Low Rider S meets my expectation when it comes to traveling long distance.
Also, I'm going to ride DGR this year on May 22nd to support Men's Health. IF you'd like to show your support you can sponsor me here: gfolk.me/IronB...
Once you've done it on a sporty anything after that is luxury 😂
Pain is weakness leaving the body lol
You're right. I'm 66, stand 6'4, and have had 2 back surgeries. I have a sporty and love it for rides not longer than 35 minutes. After that it's torture. Still love it, but have to love it through the pain.
Great video. Baggers are more comfortable for sure, a lot of people lose sight of the fact that a day of driving in a car/truck is fatiguing. It’s challenging to sit in my office chair for and entire day exactly the same position. If you can ~4hrs before it’s uncomfortable, then you’re good. Anything beyond that will not be super fun regardless of the vehicle.
Cruise control is my best friend on a long ride. I got one for my FXLRS and it is a major help with fatigue and vibration.
I wanted one when they were back ordered but lost interest because how long ppl were waiting for them. I might have to invest in something that’ll let me cruise and rest my wrist
I was on the fence about the low rider s, until I came across this video. Thanks for all the great content! I just brought a 2023 home last week and love it.
That’s awesome! You’re going to love the low rider s. Congrats!
Thank you for making this video, I appreciate it! I'm ideally looking for a cruiser that can be a jack of all trades. Your input and honesty gives me a better idea of what I should be prepared for. Ride safe. 👍
No problem! Enjoy the ride!
Thanks for signing up and spreading the word about The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and what they raise money for. They’re always adding new things they fundraise for. This year they added veterans and first responders programs. And because of mental health motorcycle meet up apps to connect riders together. Do good stuff. I appreciate it.
Can’t wait to save some balls!
After an hour on my old street glide I was feeling pain in my but lol! So your way ahead of the game. Can't wait for my first long ride on my new LRS
Haha I appreciate that. Congrats on the lrs!
Probably good to remember that the "rider triangle" is relative, based a persons height (which I don't believe you mentioned). You mentioned the mid-controls which is only 1 part of the triangle. It would be helpful to mention the seat and the bars as well. The seat looks after-market (?) but the bars appear to be stock (with some bar risers?). In my experience the highway pegs go a long way to ease rider discomfort. Cruise control is also a huge help.
Good video. Thanks
Lowrider s brilliant for long ride I two up on mine. Cruise control, bucket seat, tour pak, saddle bags, 6inch pull back risers, forward controls and literally really comfortable. Bike is geared up for long ride heated hand grips no vibration issues with hands. I also do a lot of short rides majority is in town but with a pavilion low speed manoeuvres the lowrider s dose it brilliantly. Yes it will cost the same as a touring model if you set up the lowrider s for seriously long distance riding but it still looking like a softail which I love the look of and take of the detachable bags when you want to. Also get to choose which bags you want i preferred the leather one's with the brass buckle's.
You got a nice set up there! I’m currently thinking of cams next on the low rider s to give it a little more classic Harley sound
Same guy that commented on your other video today. I took a 2500 mile ride to the Sierra mts on a Z900RS and after an hour and a half I definitely needed a break. My new LRS even with stock seat would have been at least as comfortable. Let 'em make jokes about your age. I know I'm older than you and still ride a regular Z900 too. That would have been a little taxing on that trip. All in all, I'm looking forward to somewhat long trips on the Harley. I don't mind a little discomfort. New sub.
Thanks for the sub! And you got some nice bikes, I went to a Kawasaki demo a while back and the z900rs was really impressive. Loved that exhaust note. But yeah I wasn’t used to the riding position and so my arms and wrists were starting to get a bit tense.
@@IronBornRiderFunny one cylinder on the LRS is bigger cc's than the whole 948 4 cylinder. Love just about all bikes, except I won't ride chinese. Sorry guys.
I have a 21 street bob that I plan a few out of state trips with the wife on the back. 300-500 mile rides. I really didn't want a touring motorcycle since I'm only planning a few long distance trips a year. The rest of the time I usually ride 100 miles or less solo when I do ride. Mostly commute and visit family near by. I do have the HD quarter fairing and saddleman step up seat that make a world of difference for longer rides. Ordered the torque motorcycle saddlebags after watching your video on it. Putting them on later this week. Great video!
Right there with ya. I rarely do overnight trips, my rides are usually a few hours long. Good luck with the saddlebags, I love mine and how simple and sleek they are.
The seat isn’t doing you any favors, and neither is the lack of cruise control. Looks like you had a great day off though brother. Glad to see it!
I like the seat but it pushes me higher which creates an odd bend on my hips. I thought about getting a different seat but don’t really want to drop another 500-600 lol
@@IronBornRider yeah I get that. Do you still have your stock seat? I’m willing to bet if you tried it again after using the saddle man for so long, you’d really appreciate the stock one. I had the la pera step on on my FXLRS, and I’m running that same seat you have on my dyna, and for me it’s fantastic for spirited rides, but it really falls short on the long rides. I wish it didn’t be like that, but after getting to try dozens and dozens of seats at work, I’ve realized it really do be like that.
That is a great bike. I have a 2022 Road Glide Limited-932 lbs. It's heavy for me & I'm looking forward to getting the same bike next year. 👍🙏
About to take a road trip with my FXLRS in July. Heading from Texas to California.
I got a 15" windshield and have no issues with wind buffeting.
That’s a really tall windshield, I was thinking going 11-13
@@IronBornRider I'm 5'10" and have no problems seeing over it
Great video IBR. Probably riding anything long distance with anything besides a touring or bagger is going to take a little more physical and mental strength to put the miles down. Glad to hear your day out with the bike went well. Sometimes that fatigue is worth it. 😎👍
Definitely worth it. It’s a good tired feeling
Cruise control will change your life. A taller windshield would not hurt either. I'm 5'6" and have a 15" on my Road Warrior. Can see over it just fine. Works fantastic on my 2020 Road King Special. As an observation, Seems as though the King get's overlooked a bit when it comes to Touring. If you don't need the big Fairing and all the electronics, been there done that, the King is a serious long distance touring machine. Take care.
Can’t beat a day off riding! Good video.
Thanks Brian!
I just picked a new one up a few days ago and it's way more comforable than all the hardtails I've owned. I'm not really liking the peg location but I'm going to get some crash bars like yours to move around a bit. All you have to do is get that lazyboy to fit on there and you'll be set.
Congrats. I’ve been wanting to go forward controls lately but I still like the mids too for more control over the bike.
i put cruise control on my low rider s. That helps also with being able to let go of the throttle.
Club style on almost any Harley can pound miles. I just stepped off my FXBBS after being out 8 hours 2.5 tank fills. I’m 67 yrs old. Faring , bags, good bar setups and cam with good exhaust… away we go….
Depends on the year … I got the 2022 lowrider st. I put about 900 miles in 3 days and it’s the second longer trip on it.. I now have thrashing supplies floor boards. And I’ll tell you what.. it’s crucial… the first trip I had stock pegs and my feet started to get uncomfortable.. but that’s all.. I also got a 10” windscreen and the floorboards. It is so much more comfortable.. it’s nice to be able to move your feet and to have a flat platform.. total game changer… I highly recommend them.. others probably make them too.. but thrashing supply are super easy.. you use the stock hardware.. takes a few minutes.. probably should get the brake lever and shifter and linkage along with it. Then you can set it up to your liking,.. I think you can easily do a 400 mile run with floor boards.. it’s pretty comparable to a bagger.. the new suspension is much better on the st
Without a touring size windshield there will always be buffeting no matter the bike. I can guarantee not wearing a helmet will make it a lot better. Rubber on the foot boards will help with vibration too.
Gotta wear a helmet. Can’t have anything happen to my beautiful face 😅
@@IronBornRider Nothing has happened to my face since I began riding in 1964. But it ain't so beautiful now though. Hmm maybe some road rash and plastic surgery would make me beautiful again,🤣
Add cruise control. I replace the stock bars (which you did) and install cruise control. It took all of the arm, back and shoulder strress out of the ride. Being able to relax both arms (alternatively taking them off the grips) is very helpful. Which seat do you have? How do you rate it for comfort over the stock seat?
I have the step up seat from saddlemen and I love it (tuck and roll). I haven’t tried some of the other seats but the saddlemen works for me so I’ve stuck with it for over 2 years.
Love the trip! 😎 look at some cruise control to help with the trips. That’s been a huge help in my trips. And also a shorter windshield can actually help even more with buffeting. I use to get buffeting but then lowered it so it hits below my helmet and now I don’t get any from any speed. Just as another option
Lies 🤣🤣 when we doin a ride man. I think I was just about your way near Winchester va
What did you use for a shorter Shield/Brand/Height? Thanks.
That wind buffeting isn't coming from the bike, but the fairing..
I have a ‘22 lowrider S. Took a 300 mi ride and my shoulders and hands weren’t feeling great. Hips off and on depending how I was sitting (I’m 5’10”). Definitely need risers for sure. What height are you and how high are your pullback risers? Also who makes your mini floorboards? One thing I’m not happy about is no matter how you have the mirrors position, you don’t get good coverage and I wanted to mount them under the bars but because I don’t have risers they interfere with the tank. Beyond what I mentioned, I absolutely love it and it’s the 117 Milwaukee 8 of a beast! Would love to do a stage 2 with a torque cam maybe next year. Thanks for posting this vid btw!
Thanks William! I’m 5’8 with 8 inch risers and stock handlebars. But I think I could’ve gone higher if I’m being honest. Also the mini floor boards are kuryakyn, one of my favorite upgrades on this bike. Congrats on your new lrs, one of the best Harley’s to come out in years
@@IronBornRider Thank you for your fast reply! Yeah I noticed you’re arms weren’t in a perpendicular line as much riding, hence why I asked. The HD dealership though wants to charge 8 hrs of labor to do any risers above 6” because of what’s involved. They said 6” and under didn’t require more than about 2-3 hrs of labor. I was hoping to avoid going taller to save $$$. Looks like I won’t be hahaha.
With the floorboards, did you have to buy the adapters or clevises separately? That was the only downside I noticed with that brand. Joker Machine makes ones very similar, but they are pricey (around $180 per pr).
Great share Fam. I agree tho. Baggers are probably the way to go for long distances. Gonna be interesting heading out to sturgis from Oregon on the fat boy. 🤙🏾🔥
Would love to see that happen. I’ll be waiting for your video
@@IronBornRider lol
how do you find after a ride of 350kms or so , any soar back or leg pain , since you owned a Sportster previously?
i currently have 2013 Custom, pretty bad after 60 kms of ride
Mostly fine after a long day of riding especially if you set it up with a nice seat and handlebars
thanks mate, appreciate the prompt response @@IronBornRider
The 5 gallon tank is a huge win
💯
Great video. Currently on a Sportster S. Used to ride a z1000sx. I am planning on buying a Fat Bob or a lowrider S in the next year once we moved out of London. Wondering how much difference that step up seat does, the stock seemed comfy too for a few hours? Thx mate! Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
I love the step up seat because it sits me up higher and pushes me up (I’m a shorter rider at 5’8. I like the fatbob too, it felt more nimble and better for city conditions where as the lrs is kind of an all around bike. Just my two cents
@@IronBornRider I'm 5ft7 lol. :) thx m8
Where did you find those saddle bags?
Nice long ride bro. Bad ass
those mid controls undermine long distance ambitions compared to more capable bikes... with Harley coloring outside the lines more lately, I'd love to see them try a big twin with a semi-sporty riding position
Let’s Go!! 🤙🏾🔥
What's your height and what height/pullback risers? Thanks.
Which helmet are you rockin om this trip?
Ruroc atlas
what risers and handlebars do you have? bike looks awesome!!
Thanks! It’s stock bars with lucky Dave’s risers
@@IronBornRider straight or pullback risers?
@@DarthVaderx7 pull backs
@@IronBornRider 10 inch?
@@IronBornRider hey brother love the set up I plan on doing the same risers. What else would I need to buy with it ? I’m told I would need to relocate the gauge? Anything else?
I tried to enjoy this video, honestly, I really did, you've got a lovely camera set up. But I had to turn it off half way through. Too many ads during the video, I get that you need to monetise but never seen so many ads throughout one video, interrupting everything you're saying 5/6/7 times. I was really listening to you and your comments but couldn't grasp it all. I am a Sporty rider looking at testing the LowR and wanted to view your video to give me an idea of what it's like. Cheers anyways.
Thanks for the feedback. Was never my intention to show that many ads. UA-cam says they’ll show the right number of ads based on viewers profile/history, I don’t set a specific number of ads. But again apologies for a less than stellar viewing experience
All good points!
Thanks!
Is the buffering on your helmet or on the fairing ?
Helmet
@@IronBornRider
I used to have the same problem man .. maybe look into a new helmet .. my simpson ghost would Wobble more then butts on tik tok… I went shoei and gonna stick with them for awhile
I have a trip planned at the end of August on my lowrider, I might end up with something like a FXRT fairing instead of the roadwarrior.....or just a del-ray or del-rio...... Maybe try a different helmet if you get something really aerodynamic like a race helmet it might help...def not cheap but still worth it.....
I thought about an fxr fairing if I ever start touring a bit more seriously. I have a pretty large head so that might be the cause of buffeting lol
@@IronBornRider LOL!! well ok...LOL
Thanks for sharing
No problem!
I'm watching this video because I'm debating if I'm going to take my 21 low rider s on this long trip I have coming up in July. It would be roughly 4000 miles in about a (2 week) time frame. From AZ to GA to see my nephew graduate at The National Infantry Museum. Fly to prices! Drive boring! Ride would be legit!!
4k miles on any bike is a feat. I have no doubt that the LRS can handle it though.
IronBornRider: I see why people upgrade to a Road Glide or a Street Glide for distance.
Road King: Am I a joke to you?
Lmao I feel terrible treating the rk like a red headed step child. The RK is a beast, but doesn’t get the attention it deserves
I have a 2020 LRS. On my Super Low 1200T the handle Bars are more comfortable on long rides. Thinking of maybe replacing the Bars on my LRS for a more comfortable position like the Super Low.
The taller bars for me really helped
I did end up adding 10" Bitwell Pull Back Risers using the stock handlebar. So comfortable now, able to ride long distances without back pain or fatigue since doing that.
Is the suspension stock ?
Yes it’s still stock
What crash bars did you get for the front and rear?
Bung king
Love that bike
It's what kind of shape the rider is in physically.
Baby bagger I love it
Thanks!
Fuji's RULE
They sure do
NICE RIDE
Thanks man
