Hey everybody,
July look at the courtyard with some nice insights and tips on where there colour and interest is coming from this month, along with some of the new introductions.
For this vid, before the courtyard tour, you will see where I captured some of the plants that had gone over since the change to wetter and slightly cooler weather, along with some ideas on what I might do with them.

This is such a beautiful tiny pot garden! Me and my sister also live in a rented house, so we have a container garden, too. It takes a lot of work, but the results are amazing. Congrats!!

So lovely Hugh. I've got my pots of elephant ears, Cannas, 4 o'clock in my garden. Made a glass decoration and got it outside carefully.

I like that you lean to weather as to why, in this case a plant may start to struggle. Many including me seem to think NPK .

There are many factors that can affect and have an effect on plants and how well their doing (or not), particularly when the weather has been so good and all that lovely soft growth is then exposed to such adverse weather (as you guys recently found out too 😅). Some plants can be suprisingly resilient though and recover quite nicely. Have a lovely one there, Hugh 😊👍🏻🌿🌾🐝

Thanks Nick, there is certainly some watering for sure, but because we use our own soil based compost mix, we find the pots don't dry out as quickly. Have a lovely one there, Hug 😊👍🏻🍄🌿
The courtyard always looks good and always some interest, but probably needs lots of maintenance. I bet there's always room for just one more pot.
Always room for an extra pot or two John 😁😁 There is some maintenance, but not as much as you might think once plants are potted and in a good setting. All the best there, Hugh 😊👍🏻🍄🌿🐝

Thanks for stopping by Ali. Yes, we have grown pansies and violas from seed during some years. Other years (like this one), we've bought the pansies as young plants and worked from there. All the best for the rest of the week there Ali, Hugh 😊👍🏻🍄🌿🌾
Hi Hugh, what a gorgeous selection of plants you have there! 😍We too are renting so we have lots of pots. But they do get very dry especially in the summer. What mixture of composts did you say you used to keep pots more moist please? 😃

Hi Michelle, yes pots are quite wonderful to use, but they do have their drawbacks in dry weather don't they! We use a soil based medium here, which has far better benefits for the plant over a longer term, I can do a vid to describe how we go about making our own compost, what we use, etc. All the best there, Hugh 😊👍🏻🍄🌿

@@HortiHugo Thanks Hugo, a video on your compost mix would be great! Am I right in saying that Peat free compost deters Vine Weevil grubs? 🤔😀
For sure, in my experience I've found that where peat based composts are used the vine weevil grubs are far bigger and there's definitely more of them...
