5:03 The metal fish is used. Diddy swims inside of it for one of his Golden Bananas in Gloomy Galleon. The vulture is also used. Lanky shoots it down for a Golden Banana in the temple of Angry Aztec where Tiny was captured.
I remember seen them wielding real guns. But afterward, they replaced with slighlty friendly gun shooting fruits and vegetables. Oh yeah. That Mermaid has lot of nerve to show everyone off in room 1.
Judging by the beta DK Rap still having verses pertaining to food, and the lines about weapons remaining the same in both versions, I'd assume the more realistic shotgun and pistols had always been intended to shoot fruit, but their models were changed to appease the ESRB. After all, the fruit switches are a primary way to navigate the game, I doubt they were added at the last minute.
The realistic guns were just placeholders (that they forgot to remove when they showed Shigeru Miyamoto the game) according to former Rare developer George Andreas Edit: just realized how old this comment and video is, oops
FlameForged Nuts & Bolts Is an example of a game that could have been decent enough, but was ruined because some jackasses wanted to slap Banjo & Kazooie's mugs on it as a cheap marketing ploy. So instead of becoming something new and unique, it Becomes a terrible Banjo & Kazooie game that takes away everything that made the series great.
***** No Rare has said that Nintendo can remake it at any time. The only thing they would have to take out is the Jetpac game since that was originally made by Rare.
Weirdo Sheep pressing start does nothing and walking off screen will take you back to the start of the room, plus the emotionless DK Clone and has very little things.
The Ice Key is most likely just an leftover text since DK64 ran on BK's engine, like how some SM64 textures are in OoT because that game ran on a modified SM64 engine, and PD having menu text of GE levels (though with slight differences) because PD was on a modified GE engine. The balloons giving you a life must've meant that there'd be a certain amount of lives before getting a Game Over, which would explain why when you exit the game it says Game Over, they had no where else to put it and it was such a well made Game Over cutscene they must've wanted it to still be in the final game for the player to see. Donkey and Diddy having legit guns would've been awesome in an adult copy of the game. If those models are still in the game, someone needs to make a hack to use them, or make custom ones and put them over because I want to play as DK holding a shotgun. XD
what if they added other ones i wanna see tiny running around with a crossbow lanky with a rifle and chunky with a rocket launcher of course with donkey kongs shotgun and diddy with pistols
At about 4:55 in the video, you can see that he elevates himself using the rocket boosters like he does in the Crystal Caves battle, except he's already doing it in Jungle Japes.
You got that right! Donkey Kong 64 is EASILY one of the best N64 titles! It was one of my first and definitely one of my favorites! I'm not sure what enticed me to pick that game out instead of all the rest of them when I was so little. They kinda are. Have you heard the news? If not, here: www.dualshockers.com/2015/02/10/playtonics-first-game-will-be-a-spiritual-successor-to-banjo-kazooie/
Alright everyone, I looked up Yooka Laylee, it may be too early to say for sure, but it seems that my aforementioned wish is in the process of being granted. Let us hope that this endeavor is a successful one.
" It is unknown why it was changed. " From what I heard, Miyamoto saw the beta and rather than getting angry or anything. Took out a paper and drew a log-based gun for DK. Thus allowing them to keep the gun but make it more in line with the jungle world. Which makes more sense than having DK and Diddy hold actual automatics
It turns out what happened with the guns was Miyamoto went to go visit Rare to check up on the game. Everything was going great until one of the devs casually showed him DK wielding a shotgun...this mortified Miyamoto. But, he then grabbed a little notepad and showed the dev that maybe instead of an actual shotgun, he should use a coconut gun. The story about it is all here explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/_AIeUxFRu5U/v-deo.html
Yes That sounds Crazy! However That's Funny To Me I'm Sorry If I'm Disagree What You are Saying I'm Being Honest & Being Unsure About Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong Using Real Guns
The developers actually confirmed that they tested out the Stop and Swop feature on DK64 while they were working on it, and that line of code is a leftover form their playing around. It was never intended to actually be implemented in DK64.
justin rivera Nintendo was and still is all about uniqueness. Saving and loading a save from a Memory Card, everyone can do that. Swapping Cartridges is something noone has ever done and probably never will.
First Name Last Name that's what they should have thought of... Would make a lot more sense then removing cartridges and adding the desired next game to continue...
By then it was a pretty well known meta gag. If you read a game magazine at the time you would've known about it. I believe Kazooie even says something on the line of: Yhea we collected this random piece don't you feel accomplished?!
Gassy Goddess The person who says "GET OUT!" is a character named Krosshair. He is an unseen assassin and his first debut appearance was in Donkey Kong Country 3. ~ Donkey Kong Fanatic
Yes! Buddy, one of my favorite Rareware games. Back in middle school, I literally had a crew of friends who pretended to be the Kongs. My best friend and I fought over Tiny Kong though since we were both tiny females. Lol. We even song the 'censored' version of the song at a school talent show. So awesome!
When Nintendo and Rare broke up. Both companies where never the same. DK 64 was the last Nintendo game I really enjoyed. Aside from maybe Paper Mario on the GameCube.
Heh, the ability to switch games while still holding some of the memory would make for some pretty awesome goose chases -> Play Super Mario 64 and run around the fountain in the courtyard 24 time -> Play Legend of Zelda Ocorina of Time, enter the well, goto the upper left most room of the dungeon and play the song of storms. -> Play Kirby 64 and beat the shark boss with double ice power...
my guess regarding the ice key situation is that the two games were made on the same (or atleast a very similar(one made from the remnance of the other)) engine. and in this instance some base files were left on the engine before it was cleared and repurposed for dk64. considdering how close they were in release, and how they were both made by the same developer and look increadibly alike, this conclusion isn't surprisng. the key is most likely an oversight as last i checked (i could be wrong, not sure) theres no ice/snow level in dk64 so having the item port over would make little sense. my guess if anything is that if its not a remnance of the engine's re-use, it was simply there for debugging purposes with the banjo kazoie cartridge, perhaps testing what would happen if the items were to be ported to a game not designed for the stop and swap mechanic. being a game development hobbyest i can appreciate the need to test EVERYTHING so my guess is that they needed an "icekey" object to test and see what they could do with other games. all just my best guess tho :P
They share are shitton of textures etc too. Most likely they took the whole game as a template. It's actually a quite efficient way, as you get working prototypes right off the bat, while you gradually change things, music notes for bananas, puzzle pieces for golden bananas, add additional characters etc.
Yeah That Sounds Terrifying & To Me Also But That Sounds Funny To Me... I'm Saying So Rudely & Mean I'm Unsure If It's Just Placeholders or Being Changed Plus I'm Being Honest Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong Using Real Guns.
"In addition to the 35+ hours of story mode" I recently looked at my save files which i used when i was a kid, it said 80+ hours and i had 63%.. GG young me
@@nerples1149 That's making the assumption that Stop n Swop would have transferred more data than just the collectibles, which could have been addressed with as little as 8 bits of data (1 bit for the 6 eggs and Ice Key, and possibly a final bit to denote if Stop n Swop was active). After looking around on the history, it is likely that development and implementation of the controller pack was too costly compared to swapping game cartridges while the RAM still held memory. I don't believe Rare counted on the hardware revision to break their little exploit during Banjo-Tooie development. And since this was in the era before patchable console games, I think the project was abandoned because, even if they could store everything on a Controller Pak, Rare would be unable to utilize it without revising the original code for BK. So, I think Stop n Swop was a clever way of transferring save data without the additional development cost of controller packs that was ultimately killed because of fixed hardware.
The stop 'n swop function was intended to be used with donkey Kong 64 as well as Banjo Toie. That is why there was a picture of Donkey Kong in Banjo' Beta house, and the picture of Banjo and Kazooie in DKs home. You could select it, and then be allowed to perform Stop n' Swop.
I remember getting this game when I was 6 years old. I remember how happy and excited I was picking it up from EB back in the day. The shiny new box with the art and the manual.
Noticed a small mistake, you when you talked about Army Dillo, Army Dillo was a boss for both Jungle Japes AND Crystal Caves in the final game. The voice-over was different, however. Still a great video, keep up the good work!
this is such an underrated game.i spent hundreds of hours completing this game and i still play it. it's easily one of the best games ever made and definitely should have a wii u remake.
When I get out of school and get a job, I am going to get a job at either nintendo or rare, and then I will continue questioning them, until I know everything about stop and swap. Then,I will share it with the internet. Then I'll probably be fired.
realistically you won't be able to do either of those considering that most of the original Rare staff is completely gone from the company and Microsoft has reduced Rare to making shitty kinect sports games. And I doubt anyone at any Nintendo branch even knows or cares at this point. Plus I'm sure Nintendo is pretty scrutinizing when hiring anyone for any important position.
Uhh... The Armordillo is in Jungle Japes in the complete game. He shows up in Jungle Japes and Crystal Caves. Oh, and wasn't the metal fish (in the unused enemies section) in the game? I think it was in Gloomy Galleon.
DK64 is such an amazing game and it holds up really well so long as your playing on something that has a resolution higher than 240p. It’s such a shame we most likely won’t get a remaster from Rare because Microsoft owns Rare, but Nintendo owns Donkey Kong.
I know i'll get hate for this but....i think this is a horrible game. The draw distance is poor, the level designs are bleh, the game throws random difficulty spikes in, playing the same level 5 times to get everything is tedious, and the bosses are uninspired and seem kinda lazy.
At least you said "I think" and gave legitimate reasons, which makes me respect your opinion. I personally liked having 5 characters to play the levels in, and the difficulty spikes didn't faze me, nor did the draw distance. I loved the bosses and the level designs. But that's me, you're entitled to your opinion. At least you didn't insult other players and trash the game like an idiot
I don't see there being any problems with the level design but for me the problem was the number of items to collect. I enjoyed it a lot on a first play through but I could not find the patience to collect everything again a second time. Glad they removed the balloons and extra banana requirements from the beta!
It wasn't a bad game, but I've always felt that something was amiss, like I was playing an unfinished game. I hated both the level design and character design. They just didn't attract me. Everything felt slow and floaty. There was nothing to keep me hooked for a long time. It's just my opinion of course. I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one who disliked the game.
eres tonto? es la n64 que esperas de una consola de muchisimos años -_- yo la tengo ese juego es de los que mas mejor se ven graficamente en la nintendo 64. ¿picos? jajajaja

Note that it`s VERY HARD to stop EXATLY(Again, Please tell me how it`s spelled) at 1 SEC!
yes, fungi forest was originally meant to be in the original Banjo Kazooie and you can see a picture of it in Banjos house (the picture shows Banjo standing around in a forest area that clearly isn't one of the levels in the game).
Quite explanatory. Great thing they replaced real weapons with wooden and mineral-related ones in order for the game to be considered family-friendly, but otherwise the E10+ rating could have even existed before then, since the E rating is similar to G and the E10+ rating is similar to PG.

OoT actually wasn't run on SM64's engine, it _started_ development there, but ultimately, a totally new engine was made for it.
There is a ice wall in Crystal Caverns that has a inaccessible room behind it that may have been related to the Ice Key.

I personally preferred Banjo Kazooie but DK64 was awesome, like all older Rare games
His coconut gun, can fire in spurts.
If he shoots ya' it's fire in spurts.
everybody gangsta till donkey kong shows up with a shotgun
" It is unknown why it was changed. "
From what I heard, Miyamoto saw the beta and rather than getting angry or anything. Took out a paper and drew a log-based gun for DK. Thus allowing them to keep the gun but make it more in line with the jungle world. Which makes more sense than having DK and Diddy hold actual automatics
Thank You For Saying That Comment I'm Unsure That's Why It's Changed I'm Comparing The Difference between If It Was Changed Or Just Placeholders
Could you go over GoldenEye 007's beta for us? Since you get your information from The Cutting Room Floor....there's quite a lot to talk about. lol
Woah... H-.. How'd you get here?
I wish Rare would go back to making platformers.
We don't get any platformers like we used to
I really wish Nintendo would make another Donkey Kong Game like Donkey Kong 64!
Miss these old vids. Bro had the hardest falloff in youtube history
The balloon reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing where you need to get a certain amount of balloons to unlock a door.
I would have had way more nightmares if "Junk in the Box" had been used.
DK with a double barreled shotgun and Diddy with two Berettas? that's crazy
Yes That sounds Crazy! However That's Funny To Me I'm Sorry If I'm Disagree What You are Saying I'm Being Honest & Being Unsure About Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong Using Real Guns
Harambe hasn't looked better than ever
well done diddy have a banana
well done banana have a diddy
Unpopular Opinion: THIS IS MY FAVOURITE 3D GAME... EVER
Me too :)
I remember watching Pokémon and then going up in my room to play this game. Man, good memories.
ArmyDillo sounds alittle like Wizpig in the demo XD
mwa ha ha ha ha! You Cant beat me!!
The developers actually confirmed that they tested out the Stop and Swop feature on DK64 while they were working on it, and that line of code is a leftover form their playing around. It was never intended to actually be implemented in DK64.
+thecianinator Actually it was intended, but made impossible by the N64 Hardware.
Why not just put the save on the memory card and then swap it that way
justin rivera Nintendo was and still is all about uniqueness. Saving and loading a save from a Memory Card, everyone can do that. Swapping Cartridges is something noone has ever done and probably never will.
First Name Last Name that's what they should have thought of... Would make a lot more sense then removing cartridges and adding the desired next game to continue...
this just reminds me of the glory days when all we had was DK mario sonic etc.
and none of that crappy COD where did the days go
All his early content sounds like he's describing a creepy pasta
Why wouldnt the Developers clear up some of those Mysteries? Especially the Stop and Swop deal would be nice.
I swear I jumped when I saw your profile pic! I thought it was a real spider!!!!!!
Mission Accomplished. XD
lol xD
By then it was a pretty well known meta gag. If you read a game magazine at the time you would've known about it. I believe Kazooie even says something on the line of: Yhea we collected this random piece don't you feel accomplished?!
DK64 was the first game I have ever played. I revisited it because I found the games Box. I still love it.
Why do I get the creeps watching this video?
GET OUT!!!
target scope appears on you
Gassy Goddess The person who says "GET OUT!" is a character named Krosshair. He is an unseen assassin and his first debut appearance was in Donkey Kong Country 3.
~ Donkey Kong Fanatic
I loved this game.. But seeing this actually creeps me out a lot haha...
Grant Kirkhope confirmed that DK64 was going to be involved in the BK / BT Stop 'n' Swop
So I come from the future and
Chunky is dead
Yes! Buddy, one of my favorite Rareware games. Back in middle school, I literally had a crew of friends who pretended to be the Kongs. My best friend and I fought over Tiny Kong though since we were both tiny females. Lol. We even song the 'censored' version of the song at a school talent show. So awesome!
Thats amazing XD
When Nintendo and Rare broke up. Both companies where never the same. DK 64 was the last Nintendo game I really enjoyed. Aside from maybe Paper Mario on the GameCube.
Play Mario Galaxy, or any Zelda game.
What about Mario sunshine
Well said, how about any of the subsequent Zelda games? Namely twilight princess
huhhhh Metroid prime?
Paper Mario was a 64 game, though...
Heh, the ability to switch games while still holding some of the memory would make for some pretty awesome goose chases
-> Play Super Mario 64 and run around the fountain in the courtyard 24 time
-> Play Legend of Zelda Ocorina of Time, enter the well, goto the upper left most room of the dungeon and play the song of storms.
My Childhood! One of my favorite games ever on the N64!
My absolute favorite game ever.
Thank you.
Seeing donkey Kong and diddy with real guns is terrifying
Yeah That Sounds Terrifying & To Me Also But That Sounds Funny To Me... I'm Saying So Rudely & Mean I'm Unsure If It's Just Placeholders or Being Changed Plus I'm Being Honest Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong Using Real Guns.
DK: I wonder where the boss is?
(Army Dillo appears)
Army Dillo with Heavy's voice: YOU DARE CHARGE ME? HAHAHAHA?
DK: O_O
scout: UUUUUUUUUH NOT LOOKING GOOD HERE
I think he said "YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME? HAHAHAHA!!"
Soldier: YOU PUSH THAT CART MAGGOTS!!!! Heavy: Нет!
U play TF2?
Yes, I do
The DK rap is the best!
donkey kong.......with a gun
I'd love to live in a world where Donkey Kong has canonically packed heat in one of his games.
beta64, do Sonic 2! I can help you get development information, due to a lot of beta roms
"It doesn't get much better than Donkey Kong 64." Boy that's a hell of a statement.
The game is coming to WII U eshop on April 16.
😥r.i.p Wii shop
Armydillo was in Jungle Japes AND Crystal Caves in the final.
This is my favourite plagiarized video on Beta64
Dogadon's spit was actually used in the final game. It was used for the llama in Angry Aztec
junk in the box sounds.....wrong
Wanna see my "junk" in a box?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
it's my dick in a box!
"In addition to the 35+ hours of story mode"
I recently looked at my save files which i used when i was a kid, it said 80+ hours and i had 63%.. GG young me
Why Rare didn't use the controller pack to store the Stop n swop itens?
I think it may have taken up too much space on the controller pack, with the Stop n Swap files alone being over a megabyte.
What make me watch this video: The thumbnail.
Thumbnail: For Diddy's neutral special, he wields two guns!
Instill have this with my n64
Me too!!
Me 3!!!! And it still works AND I have DK64!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Super mario rpg 2= Paper mario
vc aqui
Caralho o Joeveno Aqui
3:00 not unknown, Miyamoto himself told them to change that.
COD mocks these games: half life, doom, mario, donkey kong, banjo kazooie. This is actull bad since all these games were perhaps revolutionary
I remember getting this game when I was 6 years old. I remember how happy and excited I was picking it up from EB back in the day. The shiny new box with the art and the manual.
I wish banjo kazooie was back with nintendo
Unfortunately Microsoft bought Rare so they can't make games with nintendo anymore :(
Microsoft is like a little kid and Banjo Kazooie is a bunch of your Lego sets. Crushed.
Same. Haven't given a shit about any DK game half as much as DK64 either.
Noticed a small mistake, you when you talked about Army Dillo, Army Dillo was a boss for both Jungle Japes AND Crystal Caves in the final game. The voice-over was different, however.
Still a great video, keep up the good work!
What about in the donkey kong song in the beta when the song says "hes one hell of a guy"
***** no in the final version it says "hes one heck of a guy"
Sure it does...
***** That is true, but the lastest time the cartridges were realeased, they changed it.
I have one of those copies
kyle massey It's actually in the final game NOT JOKING DUDE.
this is such an underrated game.i spent hundreds of hours completing this game and i still play it. it's easily one of the best games ever made and definitely should have a wii u remake.
When I get out of school and get a job, I am going to get a job at either nintendo or rare, and then I will continue questioning them, until I know everything about stop and swap. Then,I will share it with the internet. Then I'll probably be fired.
GO FOR IT
can you also make them do a remake of the game for 3ds/ wii u
realistically you won't be able to do either of those considering that most of the original Rare staff is completely gone from the company and Microsoft has reduced Rare to making shitty kinect sports games. And I doubt anyone at any Nintendo branch even knows or cares at this point. Plus I'm sure Nintendo is pretty scrutinizing when hiring anyone for any important position.
Logan Chitwood true dat.
oh well, at least there's the INTERNET and those video clips and pictures and cheat codes
Logan Chitwood if most of the old Rare staff left. Then they should make their own studio and make games for Nintendo
Wow, old Andrew was very monotone. Glad to see he’s much more comfortable with recording his voice (especially in the Kirby 64 video)
5:10 beta 64 why would you just say this.. creature?
Uhh... The Armordillo is in Jungle Japes in the complete game. He shows up in Jungle Japes and Crystal Caves. Oh, and wasn't the metal fish (in the unused enemies section) in the game? I think it was in Gloomy Galleon.
OMG I HAVE THE BETA!! I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL WTF
You're with a rare cartridge...
+The Light Dragon would be a shame if someone... STOLE IT
+Gustavo Colombini *"RARE"*
Uh...
U have a rare ware right there 😞👎🏻
The stop and swop idea would have been kept if rareware thought of a cartridge slot on top of the cartridge!
Another Plagiarist exposed.
It is my favorite game of all time, but I don't insult my friends who hate it. Which is mostly a lot of them.
¿picos? jajajaja
I enjoy your analyzation. Can't get enough of this stuff
7:02 If you have BK & BT (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie) you can actcully(Please tell me how it`s spelled) do the Stop & Swop. 1. get the games. 2. have BT on the N64. 3. Get an IPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6, 6+, Or 6S. 4. Go to "CLOCK"(If that`s what it`s called) 5. Go to "STOPWATCH" on CLOCK. 6. Do The Stop & Swop. 7. When you do, make sure you have an assistant. 8. Note that it`s VERY HARD to stop EXATLY(Again, Please tell me how it`s spelled) at 1 SEC!
didn't they remove it partway so it is no longer possible on the N64 Version?
I remember being genuelly scared by the opening intro to the first boss's intro
yes, fungi forest was originally meant to be in the original Banjo Kazooie and you can see a picture of it in Banjos house (the picture shows Banjo standing around in a forest area that clearly isn't one of the levels in the game).
Quite explanatory. Great thing they replaced real weapons with wooden and mineral-related ones in order for the game to be considered family-friendly, but otherwise the E10+ rating could have even existed before then, since the E rating is similar to G and the E10+ rating is similar to PG.
