    This video compares a loose cubic zirconia (CZ) vs a diamond engagement ring in a side by side placement. We review these 2 types of gemstones for their optical properties and performance.
    In the first half of the video, we place both gemstones under office lighting to see their contrast patterning and brightness.
    In the second half of the video, we place the cubic zirconium along side the diamond ring under the afternoon sun. We record their interactions with light to see their fire and sparkle.
    Unlike other stimulants, CZ is actually a good substitute for diamond if you are looking for a cheap and low budget option. However, if we were to critically analyze both the diamond and cubic zircon, we will be able to see differences due to cut quality,

      Difference is one is only reached by thousands of feet underground and the other can simply be made in a lab

    • @cban8637
      @cban8637 4 роки тому +7

      Like most of precious stones, the diamonds made in a lab present the characteristics of the best natural diamonds stones without major inclusions except for some realy tiny air bubbles, you ll always find on stones made in lab, but you ll only see it on the microscop if the lab did a good work. naked eye, between VVS (one of the higher grade) diamonds and lab diamonds, I think no expert can tell which one is which...
      So basically the choice must be made like that:
      what is your priority between:
      A) I want a legacy and something I can resell /
      B) I just want something shiny/ or with the color I like/ But it must be natural and not over the ceiling
      C) I just want something shiny/ or with the color I like/natural or natural ameliorated, or even made in lab
      D) I just want something shiny/ or with the color I like/and unexpensive is my priority I have no problem with Zircon
      E) I want something rare, the rarest if possible.
      if answer is A or E, then break the bank.
      if it s B, choose a natural stone with a grade in function of what you can afford and what you like: find the right balance.
      if its C, you can have the most magnificient natural ameliorated stone for 10 times less the price of a strictly natural stone, but it s less interesting if you want to resell it one day, you must be conscious of it.
      if it s D cause you always change your jewelry style and dont want to spend thousands in it, then for small money you can do whatever you want, considering the fact that a lot of jeweler are doing beautiful stuff while proposing to put zircon (zircone I mean sorry again, or moissanite or whatever unnatural gemme) on it.

    CZ shines brighter than diamonds because they're synthetically perfect.. they have the most and best designed facets

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 4 роки тому +25

      I agree. Because cubic zirconia are machine cut, the facets are precision engineered to give them all a beautiful sparkle. They literally have it down to a science. It was different 30+ years ago, but now czs are amazing looking and they're uniform in appearance, making matching your pieces so easy. Diamonds, on the other hand, are cut by hand and so each one can have a multitude of mistakes and often do. I've been watching videos about how to choose a diamond, comparing the same shape diamonds together, and at least 2 out of three diamonds have very imperfect cuts. Some are too deep, some have too small a table, some have poor facet sizes. That's why jewelers have to educate customers about the importance of the cut; with czs, that isn't an issue any more.

    • @hartleyb8356
      @hartleyb8356 4 роки тому +17

      I also agree. To me this wasn't a fair comparison. The cz is just as beautiful and sparkly as the diamond but the diamond has 6 prongs and the cz only has 4 and that makes a big difference in the way a stone looks, in my opinion, especially a clear stone. I would absolutely choose the cz in this case over the diamond if it came to saving thousands of dollars or going on vacation. Now if I was a millionaire and had cash to blow, that might be a different story.

    You'd have a better comparison had you used a solitaire of each stone in the same setting, with no side stones. The comments in the video serve to 'lead the witness,' lol. Far better to let viewers view with no suggestion of what is better/worse for the stones, then, after they've had a chance, summarize your conclusions at the end. Commenting on the better x of the diamond while folks concentrate on it has the impact of manipulating their perception. When my good friend bought her daughter a cz tennis bracelet like her own, she accidentally mixed the two. They couldn't tell, and the jeweler had to use his equipment to verify which was which - and that tells me that there's nowhere enough difference for naked eye detection. (Then he engraved their initials on the each woman's bracelet clasp so it wouldn't happen again, lol.) A fun video, thank you! I am choosing a cz or, even better, a lab-created white sapphire which is truly a stunning stone. DeBeers has certainly done a number on us all. Even Forbes mag is saying the 'smart' choice is a cz or, presumably, a simulant. DeBeers can keep their stockpile of diamonds.

      Just imagine that today you want to buy a 2 carat diamond. You'd go into town and there would be maybe 2 jewellery shops near you pretty much no matter where you live. Each would have a couple of rings to show you. Now multiply that up by all the shops in all the towns and you've got 10s of thousands of 2 carat diamonds on sale worldwide at any time and it's the same for every week of the year.

    I have always found diamonds are pointlessly expensive, especially for what it is, whilst Cubic Zirconia not only looks better, but is FAR CHEAPER. I literally got a ring with a very well cut pink zirconia, and A TON of tiny colorless/white cubic zirconias for about 13 dollars. • @Beyond4Cs
      @Beyond4Cs  5 років тому

      That's true. CZs will scratch easily if you accidentally run them along a rough surface. But if you are a careful person, they can last for many many years.

    The diamond you used in this video is not a good example. A better cut diamond should not have a dark center. It is an indication the proportion is not done right. Many consider CUT as the most important C of the 4Cs. I have seen diamonds that appear bright white at the center. From my readings, diamond cutting is a trade off. If you maximize for the brilliance (the brightness & whiteness), then you lose the fire (the rainbow color sparkles). Most cutters prefer to aim for more brilliance than fire because fire is one of CZ characteristics. You don’t want to spend REAL diamond money on something that sparkles fire like a CZ would.

    Also, the diamond in this video is probably not a colorless diamond, hence the slight yellow. if the diamond was colorless it would look better than zirc but itll be hella expensive.

    • @Beyond4Cs

      Yep. That's true to some extent. CZ degrade overtime and they aren't chemically as stable as diamonds. I personally recommend diamonds as well but that's cost is the big thing here. If you are on a budget, the best way to save money is to buy CZ over any other types of simulants. By the time your CZ degrades, you can always pay a few dollars to buy a new one.
