You should've cut to fit the skin BEFORE applying it onto your laptop.
Because you didn't (although you cut around it the best you could), you weren't able to get an even more precise cut had you done so.
Now, because the entire edge of the skin on all four sides is (slightly) exposed, it is susceptible to being lifted up from normal wear & tear, excess humidity, etc.
Although in professional window tinting the cut is made after the application, this situation is different.
You could scratch the laptop much easier with a razor, versus cutting on a glass surface.
Best to pre-cut beforehand when applying a skin on a laptop.
