  • In this video replace the plastic tool heads from tweezers and toothpick with self made stainless steel ones. I love the elegant look this modification gives to the Victorinox knife.

    I always love your ideas Felix and may I suggest using the spring steel in windshield wiper blades. They are perfect for using in an SAK to replace the toothpick. They are also excellent for making lock picks. Thank you once again Master Immler .

      Wow! That’s not a bad idea! I do use it as a regular toothpick, but the SS of the wiper blade could be shaped and polished to still function.

      Wiper inserts are usually tempered back quite a bit and don’t make very tough (lock) picks, but they are the most common tension tools in the world. Tension tools are the all-important partner for lock picks. But if you are just looking for an emergency short hook you can carry in your wallet or something, absolutely they will do the trick.
      Also worth mentioning that most wipers have moved to polymer reinforcing and the stainless inserts are slowly disappearing from production wiper blades.

    I cast mine in gold, using the lost wax technique. The result is amazing and not that expensive, considering the small volume of gold needed.

    I enjoy some of your ideas and one I am working on is a stainless replacement for the toothpicks in SAKs, not just the head. For the starting stainles I'm using stiffeners from old windshield wiper blades. The head is the tricky part as the stock is thin for the body. First one I rolled the end to shape and need to fill with solder then refinish. The stainles is much stronger than the plastic making it better in alternate uses like spreading snap together plastic cases, also for task like lock picking you showed.

    In a similar way, I have filed a solid ferrocerrium rod to fit in the toothpick slot, (much cheaper than the fireant!)
    Also filed a stainless nail into a mini screwdriver and inserted it into the "secret" slot in the plus scales.

    • @erickhuntsman240
      @erickhuntsman240 Рік тому

      @@nishanthshetty3615 you'll have to check the chemistry before trying this (magnesium and water react violently I believe ) bt I believe you could dampen the ferro rod to file without producing a lot of sparks. I'm sure it'll start some but keeping the piece wet should prevent most of this ~ glass fabricator

      Victorinox is honestly very very lacking in that department. Over the years I've become more of a fan of Leatherman, because of how versatile it is. Also in their shop you can ACTUALLY customize the tool, not just select from presets like Victorinox does it. My wife gifted me a Viking themed Leatherman Surge and I love it to bits (no pun intended). It's honestly a bit sad how little use my Victorinox Spirit gets since I got the Leatherman.

I imagine you dressing up in "office" costume and explaining how to use the SAK tools for (you humorously would claim) 'surprising' ability to open mail (both envelopes and packages); remove a staple from documents; "shred" old documents for privacy; sharpen a pencil; scrape/erase ink from a paper; punch holes in a page margin for a three-ring binder; copy the geometric angle from one drawing to another; ... scrape the cooked-on old stains from the bottom of a coffee maker just be silly for a change?

    I enjoy your spirit Felix, and for me that enhances the innovation and presentation of your videos. Thank you for that! A thought occurred to me as you added to the aesthetic aspect of the knives. One thing I've discovered that I like... when cleaning an SAK, I use very warm water (not so hot as to weaken the scales) and a 10% mixture of Ballistol. Initially the solution looks very milky. I then scrub the knife with a toothbrush. When the hot water evaporates, there is a very fine oil sheen that protects and lubricates. It makes the metal glisten and the hinges function flawlessly.

    Hallo Felix,

    I might try this, but I think I would use brass for one and stainless steel for the other so that they are two different colors... so I don't get confused between the two... I made that mistake once when I ordered custom colored toothpick and tweezers... fortunately, I realized the mistake and managed to change my order before it was too late... HAH !

    Really nice details! It's also possible to drill trough a piece of metal or brass with very thin drill bit maybe one mm and then use pins and a hammer to bring toothpick and metal. Together after that it's possible to shape them also it has the advantage you have a longer lever to hold it when shaping with sander or grinder.
