I like my modular helmets for two reasons.. When it 90 plus degrees outside i can have it open and ride comfortably. When its 30 outside I can close it and be nice a warm. I think your set up is exactly what I'm looking for, so now to get the gopro hero 7 black and mounting brackets..👍
I was going to do a “part 2”, but sadly I had a minor off at the ferry port on Isle of Skye and my OSMO pinged off of my helmet and ended up at the bottom of the sea! 🤦🏻♂️
I just bought a used gopro max 360 and lots of accessories to mount on my goldwing. I've read alot about the max and also the hero 7 black. That's the next camera I want to get. I have Torc Modular Helmets which I like because they were very inexpensive. I bought two for less that 150.00. They have the Blinc Bluetooth which works great. People who I've talked to about vlogging say to stay with the hero 7 black. The 8 and 9 are much of a upgrade. I like how you set up your camera. I need to copy that because I think it will work perfectly on my helmet. I'm also going to use a Tascam DR-40 for recording.. Maybe a overkill but just want good video that people can hear. Brilliant clear and precise video Trevor... How do you find the Neotech II with the boom mic... for comfort in the helmet... is it close to nose and mouth with the chin bar down and how's the helmet for weight distribution... Cheers for the presentation and stay safe....
It's an interesting experiment but I've not seen anyone achieve good audio with an open face or front lifted helmet. On my previous Neotec I had a Gopro mounted to the chin so I could still open the front but obviously I could only film with the helmet chin down. The other downside of side mounting an Osmo or Gopro is wind drag. They present quite a frontal area and above 50mph you can feel your helmet being twisted. Hope you get it to work ok, always worth experimenting.
I have the same setup. Osmo action with cynova mic adapter and rode lav mic. No matter what I do, I can't get decent audio directly into the camera. Levels are consistently too high and audio is clipped. Ended up capturing audio into a zoom h1 and syncing in the edit. Not ideal as it makes the setup and the edit more complicated. Are you finding the same issue or have you managed to get around it?
Well, I'm answering my own question here but figured it would be useful for others. Seems a solution to this issue is to use a short, inline volume control between cynova and mic just to add some resistance to the connection and lower the volume of the input. I'll be picking one up from ebay shortly 😊
