    Gov.Wallace said back in this time period"there isn't 10cts difference between a Republican and a Democrat",but now because of inflation it's 3 dollar's difference.

      @@johnstamos75 Yes there definitely is a difference. I think segregation is normal and natural, but I am no racist. We are all different. Whites are good at this, blacks at that and the asians at something else. Be honest and accept it, that's all. The best example is the church. Voluntary segregation. Wallace in his last years actually won thanks to the blacks who overwhelmingly supported him.
      He may have once said "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever", but in his last years in office - he was very different.

      I don’t know what your talking about here given that Humphrey spent most of his campaign demanding Nixon debate him (to which Nixon turned down any debates at all) so Humphrey was basically in the same boat as Wallace on that one.

      Actually, they would probably agree on several points because Mr. Wallace changed his opinions. George Wallace renounced his racist beliefs after being shot and as he aged. He'd probably be shouting down the fascists in this country today if he were here today.

    The only issue that I have is the continuation of English property and ownership law to this day. A cultured southern accent , that you don’t hear today , brilliant opening to his speech .it’s a shame he didn’t win.

      He admitted he was wrong about segregation. Most historians don’t think he was a true believer in it anyway, just followed the train because of political expediency. In fact, George Wallace won the majority of the black vote in the last election he ran in after his mea culpa.

    He's right about the civil rights act. Slavery really was the original sin of this country. Federalization was the only means by which to eliminate it because the leaders of the south were too wicked to do so themselves, but unfortunately it drastically weakened states rights which I think in most other areas are the superior means of governance.

    George Wallace repented towards the end of his political life. He sought forgiveness from the black community and made a record number of black appointments to state positions. He said he was wrong to stand in the school house doors and that those days were over -rightfully.
    I only mention this so that we remember people change and that eternal persuasion is often better than an eternal denunciation.

    As a high school student, I protested against this man's racist policies at a rally in Indiana (stronghold of the KKK) where he was speaking on the presidential campaign trail in March of 1972 and met him and shook his hand in July (because he was a very harmed and damaged man when I met with him at the Democratic National Convention in Miami less than 2 months after he was shot and looked frail and scared to death--not because I agreed with him). I am a graduate of Ball State University.

    Not depriving someone of his/her right to vote because of his/her skin color is..."an attack upon the property system." Uh-huh. Yet I still have to pay my mortgage and property taxes, and I can trespass whomever I want off my property, etc., etc. Not depriving someone of his/her right to vote because of his/her skin color is a federal take-over of local schools. Meanwhile, I vote for our school board, our state decides curriculum, local principals and personnel committees hire and fire teachers as they see fit, etc., etc. Gawd, how the Trumpian madness has deep, twisted roots.
