    You seem to be a big fan of petzl products. I am considering a fall harness for when I have to go on my home roof (4:12 pitch). I have been strongly considering the Petzl Astro but it does not seem to get rated in the top rated fall protection websites. Perhaps this is because the websites that I am looking at are mostly geared towards construction and maybe the Astro is not as convenient for general construction like applications, and more designed for climbing/rescue like situations. Or perhaps it is something as simple as it being difficult to throw a construction tool belt on with it. Thoughts?

      The Petzl Astro is an ideal and comfortable harness for vertical work and steep roofs. Frankly though it is more than you need on 4/12 pitch which most folks consider easily walkable. For your situation I would probably recommend a Newton harness if you only plan to use it on your roof.

      That makes sense. I’ll take a look at the Newton. Really appreciate the advice!

    How much did you spent for the set up. I’d like to upgrade from CMC to Petzel

    Hey i do Copper Cedar Slate and Tile roofing. Lots of steep monster and slow restorations. Is the petzl astro bod fast u the most comfortable harness you know of? Im 33 and these cheap uline harness they give us are starting to really hurt me lol. But like really hurt bad like gets me after work even on the days off.

      Yes the Astro is comfortable. It is a harness designed for suspended workers, like on wind turbines, towers, etc where the worker is suspended for long periods of time. It has good padding at shoulders, hips and legs.

    Astro is overkill for just roofs. Avo bod fast is enough if your not ascending vertical using the chest ascender

      @@RooftopSafetyUSA I'm very interesting for one now. My AVAO is all beaten up. Any recommendations at good price for one?

      I've been working with this harness for one year. Much LESS comfortable than the Avaho ! If you wanna loose one ball or both, choose Astro LOL 😂👍. I've been working in rope access for 12 years now, and you're right comfort is the most important. This new central D ring was a good idea but I think also that new Petzl gear is made to last shorter than before (harnesses, decenders...).

    Is this for tree work ?

      I would recommend the Petzl Sequioa SRT over the Astro for tree work. That's what I have. The Sequoia SRT has a rope bridge with the option to add a Petzl Croll chest harness, similar to, but not exactly the same as the Astro. The rope bridge on the SRT gives you alot of lateral movement which you need to swinging from limb to limb while up in a tree. However, the Sequioa SRT doesn't have the fall arrest D-ring on your back, but if you get the Croll L chest harness you can get a fall arrest D-ring sternal attachment point (near your chest). Tree work generally never involves moving above your anchor point, as you would in a fall-arrest situation.
      Hope this helps.

    Why would you add another landyard can you show us a better vid explaining everything at once

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA

      A second lanyard can be used for a backup device in a 2-rope system

      @@RooftopSafetyUSA so then you'll have to work two lines at once? Do you have a vid on that? And do you know why only one descender is good enough? Is the descenders better then the ascenders?

    • @RooftopSafetyUSA
      @RooftopSafetyUSA  3 роки тому +1

      @@Brandon-no3vc if you are using a 2-line system then yes you would have to manage both lines. If you want to know more about that I suggest you take a SPRAT or IRATA training course. Ascenders work best when used in pairs for making progress up rope. For descending only a single device is needed.
