This is great info. Although, it took us 8.5 months to complete the entire process! Therefore, we were not able to travel back to the States (90 days completely wiped out) or travel outside Spain during that time. Now, if you have kids, keep in mind that enrollment for school here in Spain ends in mid-July, yet it all depends on the public, semi private, or private school of choice. ***Warning*** ⚠️ Spains taxes may be paid in full upon becoming a tax-resident, and if you have more than 180 days in total. Keep in mind that if you sell your home, it may be taxed in Spain as "Beckham Law" does NOT include self-employed / contract DNV individuals! Lawyers DO NOT ADVISE ON 😢 YOUR tax bracket and how it WILL NOT BE 24%!!! A self-employed or contract individual pays higher taxes. IT may be 3 different taxes depending on region and providence in Spain. So make sure you get ALL the information pertaining to your specific circumstances. Finally, we love it here in Spain!
Hi! Thank you for the info. I’m a contractor and submitting my visa through a law firm in Spain and they told me if you earn over 60k yearly and you are granted a digital nomad visa, then the flat 24% tax rate applies to you for up to 5 years. Just sharing some info I got. Thank you!
@silvanapalacios7499 I would take their word with a grain of salt! I went through the entire process as an American last year as a contractor. Everything our lawyer and tax advisers mentioned were completely NOT true! Sorry...was all I heard multiple times after paying them 70% of the money per the contract I signed for their services! The only way at this point in time a DNV approved applicant could apply for the Beckham Law is when the company allows you to work in Spain and pays taxes directly to Spain! The whole point is for DNV - foreign people pay taxes in Spain 🇪🇸 🙄 I now pay Spain taxes as a resident 🙄 Nothing more can be done as long as the laws are still the same with the Beckham Law - No contractors allowed!
Awesome video! I have 3 questions that came up after watching it, which I would love if you could answer them: 1) Can you travel inside the Schengen Area in the first 90 days while your permit or TIE is processing? Like from Spain to Sweden or France. 2) Based on your video, it is implied that it takes longer than 90 days to get the TIE, does that mean you would end up being in Spain "illegaly"? 3) After the first 90 days, if you still don't have the TIE, can you travel inside Spain? Like from Madrid to Barcelona or something like that
You can travel as long as you still have some of your 90 days left. If you are over your 90 days while you are awaiting a response you need to stay within Spain but you will not be illegal as you have a processing visa. But yes you can move around in Spain after your 90 days while you are waiting for a response!
Very helpful video! If I'm self employed, does the end date of my contract matter? Let's say the contract length is 1 year but it ends 6 months from now. Does this affect the visa length?
So many questions. I am a W2 full-time US employee. My company has agreed to allow me to work remotely from Spain. Is this not possible as a W2 employee? If I do have to switch to being a 1099 contractor with my company, can I still get the favorable Beckham tax rate? Thanks.
Wait, so my boyfriend and I, can not apply on the same Digital Nomad visa together, I can't add him as a dependent? Can we provide documents such as lease contracts as proof or do we still have to apply separately? I'm just confused because on the Spain's Consulate website it says, "Documents proving family relationship with the worker: birth or marriage certificates issued by the civil registry, certificate of registration as an unmarried couple or any other document proving that the relationship is an unregistered partnership. Foreign documents must be legalized or apostilled and, when necessary, must be submitted together with an official translation into Spanish."
You can apply with him as a dependent there are just certain required documents you need to have to prove your relationship depending on your home country or where you are now
Question: I have my own company in the USA - my company invoices client for my services. Do I have to go to every client and ask for their company corporate documents? Or do I just need to provide my own company corporate documents as proof of existence for one year?
If you have clients that you have continuous work with you can actually get the company documents from the state websites they are in. I was able to find all my clients documents on my own without bothering them since they are public documents!
@christinadavisnomad I heard the lawyer says your client company documents have to be appostiled? Is that necessary? If so how to get them apostiled without bothering the client.
@@farhanwarraich1392I didn’t have to get those apostilled but it may have changed now. I’m not sure where you are from but in the US business registration documents are all public documents so I went on the government website for the states the business was in and looked them up and was able to download them without bothering my clients
Thank you so much for this. Can applicants enter Spain with their first-world passport then apply for DNV in Spain with their ex-colony passport, to be able to apply for SP citizenship after 2 years of residence? Thank you.
Is it ok if my work contract just says 100% remote? Or does it have to say I’m allowed to work remotely in Spain? Does the work authorization letter need to be different than my work contract that has the terms and $ value (rate) on it?
Your work contract just has to say you are 100% remote and then you need a separate authorization letter signed by your work allowing you to work from Spain. My lawyer drew up the letter for me to get signed
Can anyone explain how to pay taxes as a digital nomad? For example, if my boyfriend and I applied for a visa in April, received it in May/June, and moved to Spain in October. From what period should we start paying taxes? immediately after receiving the visa?
After 183 days in spain you become a tax resident for that year. if you moved in october then the following tax year you would be paying fully to spain. the year before is a bit tricky but you would file as non-tax resident
It's crazy how every source states a different list of requirements... The LA consulate says nothing about gathering all my clients' company registrations and getting those apostilled! That actually sounds like a major pain in the ass. Maybe it's meant to be? Might be a big deterrent for people who may be interested and successful but just not willing to rock the boat so much with their clients asking for copies of their personal business documents. It's just weird to ask.

On April of 2023 USA and Spain signed a new social security agreement (SSA) a totalization agreement, wouldn’t that help the W-2 employees?!
Thank you for the information. Can this visa also lead to citizenship?

Oh so W2 employees are kinda SOL at the moment because of social security? Bummer. My company is based in the US and England.
Yeah it’s really complicated for US employees. If you can find a way to apply from your UK branch then you could potentially do it
am i understanding that w2 employees can no longer apply even if the company is 100% remote? 😢
Yes sadly you can’t be a W2 employee, you must be 1099 / self employed
