I've literally just been over my lawn taking pics of the various weeds there! This video came at the right time for me. Thanks 😊
If you need a hand with any post them on the Facebook page and thanks for watching
I would like to see a video about the different types of fertilizer that you can buy in UK and how to decide which one would be the best option for your needs. Also some tips about fertilizer during autumn time.
Thx!
Thanks carlo will try to cover that!
Hi could you use a adjustable thatching rake to get rid of meadow grass ?
God damn Creeping Buttercups, I've scarified and seeded, top dressed, rolled and there large areas of creeping buttercups, by as it's newly sowed I can't spray it, so I'll be manually digging it out, bugger.
i would have rototilled this lightly with the Stihl garden rototiller. Then rake off all the dead stuff then oversead. Repeat.
Love the video mate can tell it’s something you are super knowledgeable about and it’s good you’re letting your knowledge out, I have a lot of moss/thatch in my lawn what can I do for that? rake it out?
Cheers Joe rake and overseed - normally moss is in shaded conditions so check out this mix gardenlawncareguy.com/shop/grass-seed/shade-lawn-grass-seed/
I have not got the interest to spend a whole day pulling out poa good luck to you
this is useful, thanks
No problem
If I see a seed head in my lawn is it 100% a grass that has to be removed? In other words does the desirable grass also produce seed heads?
Great video, looking forward to the rest of the series. My front lawn is looking quite green and healthy but has a lot of broadleaf weeds that seem quite resilient to lawn friendly weedkiller. What's the best option, just get stuck in and dig/cut them out?
Have you always applied the same brand? It would be good practice to apply a second application with a different brand if stubborn. You can dig out or, if careful i have seen spot treatment with a non selective being used carefully applied direct in stubborn cases
I have a lawn approx 15m2 which has had dog poo all over it ( i removed approx 15kg) . Whats left of the lawn is tufts of grass and mud. To renovate this as cheeply as possible what are the steps i should take . Lf i lay turf directly over what is there will it take or should i seed ?
I used spray last year but still had a problem in the middle of the lawn with the persistent cats ear.I took ages this year digging it all out by hand.Boring job but at least I've got the weed out by the long root it has.
sometimes for stubborn weeds you can apply a treatment of another different product so two doses. but manually removing also works if you get all the roots out as you said! nice job
@@GardenLawncareGuy I'll keep the 2nd product in mind.I did retreat them but with the same stuff. They visibly looked dead but the root must have had life in it.
Took me a few days to get them all out.
Hi mate do you have any tips on how to remove clover from my lawn. The last few months large patches have started to appear and I dont know how to tackle them. I've heard that clover is good for the lawn but it looks ugly and started to take over. I scarified and overseeded early September in hope it would reduce it but unfortunately not. Any tips would be great.
im actually planting micro clover. Check it out!
Just wondered what you would do about Ground Elder? It seems I have that growing in my lawn which having just googled, can be really difficult to get rid of!
hi there, ive got new turf and ive started noticing some poa annua in it. what pre emergent herbicide would you recommend in the UK? thanks.
There aren't any!
I put boiling water directly on top of the POA , it killed it off within a day , never to return, dropped a mix of topsoil and seed down, bobs your uncle
Which Do you treat first moss or weeds in lawn?
both at once. rototill that B
What type of grass seed would you suggest for a good quality dense sward? Great video.
Hi Greg, thanks for that. The seed im using for this project is linked in the description, its from A1 Lawns Premiership Pro and is hard-wearing, good colour and develops multiple roots which i chose to try and improve resliance due to the poor subsoil I have amzn.to/3hdjRsq. They also do a combo pack with pre-seed.
When you spray weeds with chemicals do they naturally die off in time? Do you have to then remove then from lawn?
Yes they die off over time some weeks depending on the weed and the spray. Normally it will leave bare spots
@@GardenLawncareGuy How do you treat the bare spots. That's my current problem. Ta
Rake out, overseed cover with soil
@@GardenLawncareGuy perfect thank you...it looks like the moon in places
I have a square lawn does anybody have any ideas what I could place along the borders
Do you mean to edge the lawn or in terms of plants in the borders?
Great video, may I ask what happened to the grass next to the driveway? It looks like a 30cm stripe of dead grass. I seem to suffer from the same thing and was wondering how to resolve this? Thanks again.
i cover this in the next video on edging but essentially it comes down to the ground below that area could be poor due to path concrete which means shallow roots. In turn the concrete can get hot and radiate the heat which dries out the grass and with shallow roots it struggles with traffic and heat. you can water more, clear soil under or create a gap border like i did to fix
@@GardenLawncareGuy thank you, was thinking on the roots of gap boarder...
Could also be splashed up road salt which would kill the grass
Hi, so I've got and issue :( my garden extremely dry and full of rocks. I've scarified but theres still some brown grass left, weeds and thick weed grass. Do you recommend removing the weeds/weed grasses, placing a thick layer of new top soil and grass seed ontop of the current lawn? Will this cause thatch issues in the future? Or do you think I should completely remove the existing lawn, place topsoil and then lay turf? Would appreciate your advice thank you 😁
Its quite difficult without seeing it but at some point it could be better to kill off the old lawn or remove the weed grasses manually and reseed. Need to make a call on either killing off, or manual remove topdress and reseed.
@@GardenLawncareGuy thanks mate, would removing weeds/ weed grass then laying topsoil, then seed cause thatch issues in the future? And also, would laying the topsoil fix the rocks issue?
Hi. I used weedol and the weeds turned purple and died. Do I need to pull the dead weed out before re-seeding grass?
Yes, remove them they should shrivel and dry up
@@GardenLawncareGuy Thank you
Nice one 👌 so as its technically UK summer time would you recommend not doing this right now and perhaps wait a couple of months?
I'm running this at the moment footage is from a week ago. You can run these projects during the year its just more beneficial to do it in spring/autumn. The key part of doing it in the middle of the year is keeping the seed moist, if you can keep your ground watered and seed moist before germination then will be OK!
Any suggestions for getting rid of clover? I have a quadrant shape front lawn that is responding well to ur tips but the edge where it meets my paving (approx 6 to 8 inches) is full of clover
Nice to hear the tips are working! Clover can be killed using a selective weed killer like weedol, 4in1 and others, if not on the first spray use a different product for a second application. The other thing to think about is why are they appearing there, checkout my latest video on lawn edging I ended up taking out 6-8inch from the driveway as the soil was so shallow there from groundwork. The area will be ok in good conditions but foot traffic and drought it dies back and weeds come, water logging can be another cause. You can treat the effect but have a think about cause too if possible
@@GardenLawncareGuy thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately I don't have the luxury of removing the edges like in ur video because it's quite small and the driveway is paved with a decorative edge in it...id say the problem lies with shallow roots in that area, is the weedol 4 in 1 safe to spray on the grass? It won't kill it?
Why not scarify would that not have done the job
Scarification would have covered removing some debris from the lawn but this needed to be about removing roots of the medow grasses and weeds which needed digging or pulling out so they reduce in the lawn. After this stage I did then scarifiy to further remove any remaining material. If there is no weeds or seeding grasses then yes, scarifiation is OK but we also need to tackle weeds.
