You have given me a new reason to not waste my time making videos for UA-cam. As much as I am all for not going overboard with swearing, this policy is a straight up shot in the foot for UA-cam *shakes head*.

Another UA-camr had this happen where he couldn't understand what the problem was with his year old video, the automatic closed captions determined he cussed and removed monetization. He hasn't cursed in a video in the years since I started watching him
The problem with retroactive rule changes is that they can do it again any time. So you don't simply have to follow the rules as they are now, you also have to predict how they will change in the next few decades. And just wait for youtube to figure out how the newly demonetized videos can be flagged for "false payment" and then they will demand the money back.
But in YT's terms of service, which we've ALL agreed to, it specifically references that it can be changed without notice and without consent. WE'VE agreed to it. Just like we do on our credit card applications which have us agree to interest rates being changeable at the provider's whim without notice. So they can up the rate to 50% and we've all agreed that they can do that.
Sure, the internet does provide us good stuff, but it does come with a risk like cyber attacks and bad security. The internet is a small place, and not the outside world. Companies should have learned to never care about what the easily offended people on the internet say.
Oh they are like that, I recall if not mistaken a video about the fall of Machinima and how they had a big sponsor contract with a ... I think it was a jeans company and they brought up how big PewDiePie was ... and then the execs of that company decided to watch the latest PewDiePie video ... and then they lost the contract.

I love how "demonetized" means you don't get paid but UA-cam will still run the ads on your video (waste the viewers' time) and collect the revenue. Kind of _proves_ that the advertisers don't care if their ads run on the videos that are demonetized therefore removing the reasoning behind the demonetization.
Their end goal has always been to show ads in videos without paying the video creators. They keep finding excuses to still show ads but not pay you for them.
This is just one of many reasons I'll never be on UA-cam without an A blocker. As much as people may whine about it hurting creators, it is one of the few ways users are able to give UA-cam the proverbial finger

As to UA-cam's demonetization policies, I don't expect them to start being fair anytime soon. They won't straighten out until the day comes when there's a viable UA-cam alternative that will start to siphon off the better content creators.

To prove your point: the first ad after the video during my watch was for a movie called Cocaine Bear, a theatrical film mind you, that not only drops the f-bomb more than once but one of them is a kid who just escaped a bear on cocaine. So I don't think advertisers are that worried about swearing. I don't use swears in my videos, the few I have, and have censored them for convention panels but that's purely a personal choice. I don't feel the need to swear and there's nothing wrong with either approach. However, I'm not popular enough for UA-cam to let me back into the partner program after they kicked me out so at this point I really don't care.

This censorship lies at the heart of you tube specifically and Americans in general. Apologies if you're not American, i just assumed from your post. But it's been my experience that no nation on earth embraces censorship quite like America the nation and America the people.

As someone with a short fuse using something silly instead of an actual curse word helps me calm down easier and makes the actual curse word usage I do make carry more weight in my rage. Again, keeping it out of my stuff, even comments, is a personal choice, not something forced on me by some outside group like Google is doing here, a meaningless gesture to people who don't actually care since they'll have swears right in their movie trailer. So that may still bother you. However, I have posted videos on my site, including a few JSG videos for context or filler with links to the channel, that have swears. I put a warning for the offended and move on. Some people are offended for whatever reason (cultural, religious, personal world view) and others aren't. I try to be respectful to both but I don't control other people's mouths.
Nice video, i actually like beefy swearing as it just transports strong emotions, which improves things being said often in many ways and on different levels. I just hope someone considers to open a class action suit over this. Retroactive changes in agreements is something naughty in legal terms and it should be easy to win such a lawsuit in theory.
