I love your hot chocolate advent idea! It would be great to have a sugar free option or at least without any added sugar in addition to what's in the chocolate. ❤️ 🍫
I've already go that one covered, my friend!! I don't like to eat added sugar either. So, I will have a 'no sugar added' option. There will be the tiniest amount that comes from one of the ingredients, and I'll make note of that, but otherwise, you can add your own sugar substitute if you wish. They will also be Dairy free!
how exciting for you all to become Italian citizens. what is the music you played while dying the scarf please I love your chickens great show your enthusiasm is contagious
Congratulazioni, Maria! Allora ti posso scrivere in italiano!
It's very nice to spend some time with you. Inspiring! I sit at the table and knit Pearrock shawl, a design by Marina (Skua) and in front of me is the sock blank (eco print) I bought from you one year ago. I use it as a table cloth. It's so pretty! Digital hugs from Norway, Merete
@@NinjaChickens We are fine. I live in a very quiet corner of the (covid)world. It has been a very cold winter with lots of snow, but I have all my wooly clothes so I get on very well. I think of you often, because I often look at my Seer and think .... what to do with it. I made some really stupid mistakes and forgot to increase on the same place for many rounds. I think I'll start again and choose the same colour (burgundy) but a DK yarn, not fingering held double. Two strands of yarn are sometimes annoying, when one of them hide and I don't notice. I will have this cloak one day when I walk in the woods at my farm.
@@hansgardenkornstadstrikkpa5104 That would be amazing! The Seer is a huge project, but if it's something that you think you will love and wear often, it would be worth the time to redo the mistakes. I hope to see it one day!
Hi there! I am a new subscriber and really enjoyed your video. My eldest daughter is also going to university in September, all being well, and I have been having thoughts about putting together a treasure box for her to take away too. So your hope chest idea really resonated.
Thank you for sharing your Italian citizenship information. I had no idea this was possible and am very interested as both of my dad's parents came from Linguoglossa in Sicily in the early 1900s. Many of the Italian names you mentioned - Francesco, Carmella, Guiseppe, are family names. Seems like another rabbit hole to dive into...Happy New Year and thanks for providing such interesting content!
So lovely to see your video again. Those scarves came out just beautifully! This is my year to get going again with natural dyeing and eco printing...last year I had another monster to conquer and am in the home stretch now, CT scan showed no more Cancer but still need to do Radiation in Feb and of course follow up. ...but my energy coming back and though my finger tips are still a bit numb from Chemo damage, I am learning to work through it. I have even been approached by a craft shop to come do some workshops, super excited about that!! You are always so inspiring and makes me want to just get out there and do some dyeing :-D Have a wonderful 2021
Oh Erika!!! Congratulations on being Cancer free! That is such a big thing!!! I'm so happy that the treatment is wrapping up and that you are able to begin thinking about your journey after cancer! I hope your 2021 is all that you wish for!
happy new year maria ~ this was a lovely episode. you have inspired me to experiment with hot chocolate, i have so many wonderful ingredients just lying around. cheers
Another lovely video, thank you. What a wonderful gift of opportunity you've given your children, so many possibilities. I love seeing your energy, enthusiasm and ideas. May 2021 be a brighter year for everyone.
The chickens look so happy! I didn't know that about roosters not tucking their heads. That is an amazing story about your journey getting your Italian Citizenship. Connecting to the ancestors is so important. For good or bad it is part of who we are. I hope you have a lovely peaceful New Year my friend
Watching this morning has me missing you so much!! This was a lovely episode. The different shades of Madder are exquisite. I love my eco print so much and I'm so happy that you are enjoying yours. Love you friend 💓
Living in Tucson, we are pretty close to the Biosphere. When I was in High School, they were doing the original “experiment.” You couldn’t go in the actual Biosphere, but you could tour the green houses that they had outside the sphere on the property and it was very interesting. We always took any exchange students that stayed with us to see it. Since the Biosphere was been sold, you can tour the inside of the Biosphere itself and that was interesting as well. I haven’t been out there for years, so I don’t know what it currently looks like... Anyway, I hope that you and your family have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Happy New year! Thank you for another year that you've shared. I'm always feel calmer and have a little bit better perspective of the outdoor world thanks to your videos. Congrats on getting to experience a new culture, language, food, and life style. Take care and stay crafty!
I would like to get a small hydroponic setup since I had a stroke and was forced to sell my property that I absolutely loved. Planted fruit trees, berries and vegetable garden and I really miss the gardening
Happy New Year Maria! Congratulations on the Italian citizenships! What a great gift for your children! I got my Hungarian citizenship in the same law. Thank you for sharing the dye process with madder I didn’t know I need Ca to deepen the color, I was kinda disappointed in my brick red color! The hot chocolate calendar sounds fantastic and such a great excuse to pamper oneself 💖💙🥰 wishing you all the warm and fuzzies!!!
Happiest of New Years, Zsofi! I hope you and your family are well! Yes, I discovered that our well water does't have many minerals and is neutral pH. So, it seems I get the best deep reds if I add calcium and bring the pH up just a bit. I still have so much color in the dye pot, I might add a touch of iron and see what other shades I can get.
felice anno nuovo Maria ! and family, kitties, chickens, roosters and plants, felice 2021 ! Old cigarettes ? Usualy I love the smell of madder, not sure about the cigarettes ;-)
I know! It's not the smell I was expecting! Even my husband and daughter said it smelled like cigarettes... then it turned into the smell of lady bugs! It was very odd! :-)
If you are using Silk or Wool, Aluminum Sulfate is commonly used as a mordant. If it is a plant fiber, like Cotton or Linen, Aluminum Acetate is better. There are many other things that are used as mordants as well, such as Ferrous Sulfate or plant tannins.
I LOVE that you and Toby text each other for Italian practice!! Always appreciate this chance to see the land (so lovely under winter's blanket) and to see what you're up to on the Homestead. xoxoxo
Maria! You share such inspirational projects! Can you let me know what type of calcium you used with the madder? I love the shade of red and want to try it with next year’s madder. Was it calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, another type?
Aww, thank you Sandy! I'm glad you are interested in the Hot Chocolate! It is not a recipe that I am publishing, since I'm going to be using it for my Herbal Hot Chocolate Advent Calendar this year. This recipe for Sipping Chocolate looks heavenly though! Maybe you have what is needed? www.all-thats-jas.com/french-sipping-chocolate-recipe/
The Italian government is accepting a much longer lineage than many for citizenship! I'm claiming Irish citizenship (because Brexit 😢) as my father was Irish. My children can claim it too, but like you there is a greater burden of proof for them, but that's as far as it goes. Great grandchildren cannot. My mother who is British couldn't claim it as the spouse of an Irish citizen as by the time she decided to do it, my father's dementia was such that he couldn't sign the forms. Dual citizenship is a wonderful thing to have!
Why Yes! I am! It has become quite a big adventure! :-) I've got them listed in my Etsy store: www.etsy.com/listing/1006791868/herbal-hot-chocolate-advent-calendar-24
Probably the two biggest ones for me are access to affordable (sometimes free) university education for my kids and access to affordable health care within all of Europe (not just Italy). It will also make travel through Europe easier (as a citizen of the EU). There are other benefits, but these are the biggest for me.

There are a few songs during the dyeing. If you could tell me the timestamp when the song is playing, I would be happy to look it up for you.
Nice!

I visited it on my move from CA to PA. So interesting!
