    Maria, what you do helps us too. Your printing of, and selling of, sock blanks keeps me going. I need you. Please never think that what you do doesn't help us. We look forward to your vlogs. I hope that soon in the future that I can take one of your eco-printing classes. This is what we look forward to. Stay safe and well.

    Now that is my kind of sewing! I love what you said about taking the time to think about all of the years and hands that went into the fiber that then became your yarn ;) As I was watching you, I'm knitting with yarn from two of my sheep who are second and third generation on our farm and it gave me good pause to really remember and honor that. Thank you for the episode, Maria, and hope you and yours stay well, too x o

    It's not the bias you want but the straight of grain because of the way the garment wears. I've had commercially made clothes that twist, that drives me nuts when pjs twist and choke your legs in bed. I think you had the grain straight, besides your creations look so amazing, truly! Thanks for sharing!

    It’s good to see and hear you! Lately I’ve been doing a lot of knitting and then frogging because I decide that I want to make the sweater that I’m working on longer, bigger or smaller. Just grateful that I’m on a part of my knitting journey where that’s not a big deal... take care, stay safe! 🌸

    It was so nice to spend the morning with you Maria. I resonate with you so much. I love all that you shared with us. I don’t like sewing either. The yarn and pj’s are great. I’m going to go look into the foraging books. I don’t live on a lot of land but we access to things and I would love to learn more. Thank you.

      I’ve been thinking about your eco printed sheets all morning and wanted to try pillowcases. I re-watched your video to try to figure out how to go about it. Do you lay out the botanicals and steam one side at a time? Do the leaves shift around when you’re rolling it up? Thank you.

    • @NinjaChickens
      @NinjaChickens  4 роки тому

      @@DanaBarbieri I lay the botanicals on the wetted fabric first. The color will often bleed through to the other side, so if you don't want that, you will have to put something in between, like parchment paper. You roll it up nice and tight, things might shift a bit, but just go slowly. Then tie it up and steam it for at least an hour. Your fabric will need to be mordanted. If you are wanting to do pillow cases, you can use a cotton mordant - soy milk, tannin, aluminum acetate... Maybe I'll do a little tutorial on ecoprinting pillowcases!

    I had a little giggle watching you make the PJs as I love your relaxed attitude. They came out great :) The spun yarns look lovely and I really appreciate the sentiment about thinking about the life-chain that led up to the spun yarns, and to wonder at the life they will have as a garment and beyond. It is like looking at old trees and thinking 'wow - all the things you must have seen in your lifetime'. I hope our world can be healed. So many people don't want things to go back to how they were. Take care x

    I send a warm hug and am so thankful for your videos. You are one of my favorite podcasts to watch. You shared a lot of thoughts that I too am thinking, and struggling with other aspects, health issues, woman change of life issues that are more than just physical, but also psychological... I feel that, in a way, the virus & being in an at risk group has forced me into a shell, and yet in some sense this is also a chrysalis, a time of change...not so much the cocoon sense, in terms of wrapped up sheltering, but more an inward turning yet living in the world with the big changes and how to adapt to it and the big changes in myself...it is a huge struggle in some ways, and this has made me take life one day at a time... bring it back to my values, yet while also being in the world, and being the kind of person who supports Good, in all its many forms. But also trying to figure out what that looks like in my life... it is so strange and hard to put into words. But it is not a turning away, more of an inward looking to grow outward? It is hard to find the words. But, I love what you have shared here and in the newest video. Wishing you goodness - Lynne

    This was wonderful, Maria! Thanks for the book recommendation - I would love to read that. I, also, have been thinking a lot about all the work and love that is poured into every skein of yarn I knit. I lean towards using yarn sourced and dyed by makers who I know and love, and it makes me happy to think about them whilst I knit.
    So much to think about. Awesome Wild Edibles! and I adore yours and Kia's pyjamas! IT was lovely to see your beautiful face XXX

    You don’t need to cut pj’s on the bias. If you think warp threads and weft threads on a square of fabric , take the top right corner and bring it to the bottom left, the fold line would be the bias. The pj’s turned out lovely.

    I love all your clothes in this video. So beautiful! Wonderful eco-printing. I have never done that. Maybe this is something I am going to try in the near future. Bless you Maria and may God let you feel light and happy again. Cast your load onto His shoulders and trust the process. Do not judge others who want to live differntly. It is their way and their Karma. Everybuddy has their own bubble and nobody can take that away from them. Keep on doing good and focus on Love and Positivity, even and especially in times of adversity. Every now and then examine your paradigms and check if they still serve you. I have come to do that in my own life and it feels so good to "spring clean" old believes and nourish new ones. :-) Huggs from the Schurwald Forest, Germany.

    Hi Maria, It's so good to see you! So much yes to all that you said. I feel like I've had a good chat with a friend. So many conversations to be had and such strange times...I've pulled back to listen and learn... "Pre Yarn" is what Honer och Eir" calls the yarn they make now...and I was knitting on some when you mentioned it. It's different to work with, but splices easy, and there is just something deeply magical about it, in many ways. I still dream of moving back to NC, but maybe not soon. So for now we are enduring 100+ temps in NorCal with no rain, growing more food, laying low and waiting...envisioning and manifesting all of the tools and things we need to make a brighter future for all humans and all non-humans.
    Hugs, Isabel

    I also listened to “Braiding Sweetgrass”, mostly while I was enlarging my garden. I LOVED the book! You are right, it meant so much to be read by the author. It is one that I will read again. It reminded me of reading “Silent Spring” by Rachel Carson, when I was a teenager. Rachel’s book made a deep impression on me as did Robin’s.

    I appreciate your honoring all that participated in the creation of the fleece-sacred reciprocity in action. There's much that the spinner has contributed as well, especially your intentions of honoring and creating peace on the land and with the other beings with whom we share this world. As to spinning, what kind of new wheel did you adopt? I am a wanna-be spinner who is still contemplating how best to start. Drop spindle? Wheel? Any suggestions? Janet (@harpingjanet on Ig)

      Hi Virginia! Yes, I do understand what it's like to see a podcast and feel like you really understand someone. I follow a few podcasters like that. I would love to trade seeds with you! I don't know that I will have hollyhock seeds the year, though, unfortunately. All of my plants have been hit hard with Hollyhock rust and I've had to cut them all back. I only have one that is blooming, but I will try to let that one go to seed so I can collect them. I'm not on Facebook, but you are welcome to contact me here or through my website ninjachickens.org
