I listened and learned from Hair Buddha and bleached my hair with Blondme + 20 vol. I bleached it twice and the yellow was gone. Never experienced such a gentle bleach before - bleach usually burns my scalp really bad but Blondme was such an amazing product. My hair is now silver white and looks fantastic. I had this intense red for many years. I finally gave it up because the maintenance is just as intense. It looks fabulous straight from the salon but fades very quickly. I used to call my first shower "The Psycho Shower" because so much red was all over the shower and I'd have to wear black until my hair was completely dry. The red bleeds and stains everything...sheets,towels, your clothes, your shower floor. Even sweating makes it bleed. I had to redo it every three weeks to cover my blonde roots and maintain the bright red. On the other hand it's sooooo hard to get out if you decide to give it up. So just a heads up if you decide to go red, get ready for a major commitment.
I was getting a vibe from her weird faded prep hair color as well. It went better with her skin tone than the resulting red, strangely enough. It also brought out her pretty eyes instead of overpowering them like the red did. She needs pastel colors, I think. I would call the 'color palate' that provided the vibe "oil slick on a rain puddle" and not in a bad way, strangely enough. You know, how thin oil sheen on water has that swirly holographic appearance and it is pretty in such a way despite it not being something one wants to see going on.
"I get a vibe of that colour on her head" ME TOO! It looks ... rainbow-punk-ish? And she could rock it? It kinda suits her? Giving me soap-bubbles vibe, that's actually cool and ... would be hard to achieve on purpose, I guess? If my hair would turn out like this by accident and it would suit me as well as it suits her, I would actually stick to it for a few weeks at least.

I had my hair blue, then did it purple and red. I used Loreal color remover (comes in a little blue envelope) mixed it with 20v, and as I put it on I could see the color coming out within minutes. It didn't damage my hair, and it worked better than a bleach bath. Also, hand sanitizer is awesome at getting direct dye stains off of face and hands.
I put a dark red over pastel blue. The next wash it was purple, and by the fifth wash it's pastel blue again, with a band of light purple where I had either more or less damage than the rest of the ends. Blue cannot be defeated. And yeah, alcohol will get rid of stains easily when used right after. Includes stains on furniture and floors. Except painted walls, RIP.

I wouldn't call it a "dupe". It's a line of direct dyes as there are many. Manic Panic dyes have quite a different consistency. They are much more liquid and a little more slimey. Directions are a bit thicker/firmer in texture and more gel like as opposed to creamy. I find them easier to work with, because they don't drip as much, they stay, where you put them, so also great if you want accurate color placement. And most of them are very pigmented and very potent I believe that Directions existed before Manic Panic, but I might be wrong.

Hi Hair Buddha, I´ve have discovered and have been bingewatching your videos for the last few days, and I love your sense of humour and your competence as well. I haven´t colored my hair very often throughout my life (maybe 4 or 5 times in my 38 years and often with henna "mud" color in red, close to my natural hair color) and was almost always happy with how my haircut looked like after I´ve been to a hairdresser (maybe because I´m easy to please haha). I´m also cringing about how violent people treat their hair with so much bleaching and I can relate to the pain you feel when watching it. Maybe one day I stop by your salon and lay my hair in your hands. 😀 Greetings from west Germany and keep up the good work! 🙋♀
Directions are a common brand here in germany for decades, at least for 90's goths like me. Once killed my white bleached strand with using green Directions.. rember it as it was yesterday.. my hair became elastic and ripped off. This week my daughter came with a little can of Directions green :o, applied on her bleached hair.. looked like translucent slime but the color came out very well. No transforming hair into gum or breaking. Just a cute green. :)
La riche directions have some gorgeous colours, my hair is curently lilac and it took well despite not using any bleach, top half of my hair is grey/silver and bottom half is light brown and I was fed up of the huge contrast and this has blended it in nicely and it will do until my hair has grown enough to cut off the brown and then I'll be rocking my silver hair!
Directions ,Manic Panic,Punky Color ,and Colorista seem to be the best direct pigments i have ever used. Ive had red hair, purple, teal, evergreen over time. Some colours i know not to touch with my skintone and with the way they fade out or are stubborn to get out. For bleaching i found Splat bleaching kit and Manic Panic to be the best especially for the lengths( mix developer and bleach powder to a thick butter cream icing texture. Do roots last because this works so well they will go platinum fast. I personally prefer leaving at least a centimeter of my dark roots for a natural look). And yes im a light skinned woman of colour but my hair texture goes from a3-c1 throughout my hair just for reference.😊🇨🇦Hope this helps someone.
Each time I watch hair Buddha, these videos make me want to remove points from the person dyeing their hair for things like using coconut oil before bleaching or no gloves or fine sections 😅
I have naturally dark brown hair, I used to dye it red (box dye 😬), I didn’t have to lighten my hair at all and my hair used to turn out beautifully to the point where you would have thought I’d lightened it beforehand, still healthy and shiny, that is a box dye I will always go back to if I decide to go back red, and the best part was it never faded
@@annaparry. id probably say you'd need to lighten your hair when using that one, just till your hair is orange, certainly not blonde, maybe yellow could be ok, if your hair is virgin then i dont think it will be as bright but who knows, hair dye unpredictable, good luck though i hope it turns out good :)
Her hair was so pretty! I keep my hair about an inch shorter than she does but the color is almost the same, I do my color just a bit darker. I love it!
I love the La Riche Directions! But I think they are not available anymore in EU (they used to be, years ago). I've always thought they were just pigments but recently I bought a very light color (dusty rose or sth like that) and it's written in instructions it's semi-permanent.
Directions have wonderful colors but only problem is that it washes out way too soon... Same as Arctic Fox and Manic Panic (the last one has an amplified version that sticks a bit longer). Some reds and purple do not even have to be done on bleached hair, depends a bit of your own hair color. But for a brighter color you do need to bleach it... Lovely shade of pinkish red! I like it!
Head and shoulders is the only shampoo that works for me. Yes its aggressiv but the only thing that deals with my excema. Every other shampoo dose like nothing and then i screach myself bloody and need to wash it every day. So i stick with it.
Many, many, many years ago I stripped my dark blue-black dyed hair and took it back to a medium chestnut brown. No damage, no issues. As I'm assuming products have vastly improved since those days it really amuses (and terrifies) me that so many get it so wrong.
I suggest to write a petition to the producers of coconut oil (and any other oil) to put on the packaging the inscription "DO NOT apply this product to hair and scalp before dyeing and bleaching hair/hair extensions. Product BLOCKS hair dye/lightener from working. IT DOESN'T PROTECT YOUR HAIR AND SCALP FROM DAMAGE CAUSED BY HAIR DYE AND LIGHTENER. IT WILL ONLY GIVE YOU POOR RESULTS, WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY".
I have been looking for a channel like yours since 2012 when everything changed in NYC with hair. Hairdressers started cutting my hair straight across, chopping the layer closest to my neck off, and then it progressed into choppy layers, jagged edges, sloppiness, homeless hair, blunt boxy bobs and ignoring whatever I tell them. 💙🙏🏻💙
La Riche Directions dyes are soooo forgiving. I’ve had so many bleach disasters, but still always been able to get pretty perfect results despite the uneven base. She was very lucky so have had this brand cos others have not worked so well when the base has been less than perfect, in my experience.
Oh and the brand of the color is Directions. It comes in very nice colours, but they wash out rather fast. It's a good option if you wanna test a colour on your hair, but in my view not so much, if you want to stick to the colour longer because even after one wash you can already see it fade out.
Directions colors are very famous here in Germany. They are really powerful. I use to mix them with conditioner to get pastelle tones on my platinum hair. It is washed out after two hair washes and I can go to the next tone.
Hi hair Buddha! When you do a bleach wash, do you avoid the roots or do it the way you’d do shampoo and just lather it in? Or do you still need to use precision in your application?
Yes, please, a link if you've shown us how to properly do a bleach wash? I thought it was a turn upside down and squirt in on everything but the roots and then 5 minutes before done, do the roots.
Not hair Buddha, but I’ve done a bleach wash on myself before. So you would want to be a little bit more precise in your application if you have virgin roots or if your hair is completely virgin. If you’re using the bleach wash to help remove your color, then you would only want to apply it to the areas with color and avoid your roots, and then once you are satisfied with the amount of color that has been removed from your hair, then you can apply it to your roots if you are wanting to lighten them. You basically follow the same steps as standard bleaching.
Let's be real, red color is the best, it covers EVERYTHING and looks good, even if she had applied it directly over the purple it would have looked good. The only problem with red is... to remove it 😂😂
I myself have gone btwn red and purple for years. Currently it is purple from root to about half way to ends the mid shaft to ends is the same red she just used. What I wanted to say is that a red that deep WILL cover purple, especially with it being so faded. If anything those strands of purple will turn out a bit more purple red. I like to think of that as a happy accident that makes the overall look natural looking. And by natural I mean that normal hair tends to have highlights that give it dimension natural color isn't one flat color.😊
Ascorbic powder mixed with a clarifying shampoo works best. The extra soaps in the shampoo softens the acid in the vit c - less dry. Does not damage the hair. For mid length to ends I did 3 rounds of the mask, plus 1 round of Joico colour eraser with 6% developer. And for the major regrowth 1 round of Wella Blondor soft cream with 6% developer. Have gone from black/purple and loong brown regrowth and now have a bright orangey red all over 👍🏻
I think it's so funny that all of most people are using coconut oil. I love when u hear they are using it the faces u make , I laugh so hard but they don't listen , I listen.
Years ago I used to use this exact colour/brand. It's a conditioning colour, no developer required. It did used to fade quite fast on me but when it started to fade I'd just mix a spoonful in with my conditioner to freshen up the colour! It's very affordable too, highly recommend!
"Directions" is a semipermanent color like :Manic panic" or "Arctic fox". I use it too. If the hands are stained from the product, then use hand sanitisers to get rid of it.
I've used Directions. Colors are beautiful and they sell a white to mix (almost) all colors if you want pastel. I knew this was a temporary dye, but still, some colors fainted really fast. Almost gone after washing twice. Some stayed in quite long and even fainted those were quite beautiful.
I love the directions dye, my hairdresser used 3 of their colours to dye the underneath of my hair in galaxy space colours. I've just used dark tulip at home for a change from the pink, purple and blue space colours
La riche directions. I've been using this hair color for many years. They are all extremely strong. I've had deep blue hair with it for over a year now. I don't change color often. Still love the blue. Ten years ago I used red tones. It is a very good product and offers a wide range of colors. 🙂
Directions hair dye 💜 used it for two years, the deep purple colour, I can't remember the exact name. I loved it, soooo pretty but the process became a real pain as I had to bleach my roots each time before using the purple.
I've used directions loads of times, it's a semi permanent that looks great at first but fades very fast. It also stains EVERYTHING! I had to bleach the shower every time I washed my hair!
Directions are grate. They don't give you the feeling of damaging your hair too much. Your hair feel always soft after dyeing. It's an old, well known punk brand for really colourful hair colours. I used it already 20 years ago
Directions are also pretty common in germany. I Use them too, a long time ago I had my hair dyed Red with Box dye and Used pillarbox Red, poppy Red and vermillion to Maintain that Red. Now i have some blonde Highlights (more yellow) and toned Plum over it. When its Faded, i will try cerice, and alpine green is also in Waiting. But directions are really a pain in the ass, they stain everything immediately.
Hey, I’m also from Germany and use Directions! I want to warn you now, the colour Plum is going to fade to blue and I’m trying VERY hard to get it out of my hair right now, but NOTHING is working to remove it. I’m going to a hairdresser tomorrow, but I just wanted to let you know since you said you’ve got that colour in your hair right now. 💖

I love the La Riche Directions! But I think they are not available anymore in EU (they used to be, years ago). I've always thought they were just pigments but recently I bought a very light color (dusty rose or sth like that) and it's written in instructions it's semi-permanent.
It’s like you killed someone! LMAO! Buddha, you rock!! I love your funny shit!!
I like it!
You are my joy at the end of a work day ! Thank you for posting videos:)
I got some coppery/orange dye from Directions and it did an amazing job on my overprocessed ends where the permanent copper dye doesn't last
Head and shoulders is the only shampoo that works for me. Yes its aggressiv but the only thing that deals with my excema. Every other shampoo dose like nothing and then i screach myself bloody and need to wash it every day. So i stick with it.
I really like that color! I always wanted to color my hair bright red like that when I was young, but never got the chance. It's so pretty.
Many, many, many years ago I stripped my dark blue-black dyed hair and took it back to a medium chestnut brown. No damage, no issues. As I'm assuming products have vastly improved since those days it really amuses (and terrifies) me that so many get it so wrong.
Hair Buddha, you are priceless. Small sections, coconut oil..... ❤
The minute they bring out the coconut oil... I feel your pain HB!
Could be nice if you change your color every few weeks?
Thanks. Always happy when you post a video! ❤️🇳🇱❤️
Excellent teacher too!!!
Every time they get out the coconut oil I think "poor Hair Buddha." 😂😂😂
On a tangent, her natural eyebrows look much nicer than her made up ones
Love directions.. always use their bright colours
I love directions! fluorecent green is my favourite!
Let's be real, red color is the best, it covers EVERYTHING and looks good, even if she had applied it directly over the purple it would have looked good. The only problem with red is... to remove it 😂😂
i feel the same with rich purple! it fades beautifully but that remaining 10% of pigment.. hope you like purple for the rest of your life😂
Gets Head and Shoulders advert half way through 😂😂😂
I myself have gone btwn red and purple for years.
I Love your videos! I came across your channel a couple days ago and I have been enjoying your videos!
Have gone from black/purple and loong brown regrowth and now have a bright orangey red all over 👍🏻
When you saw the coconut oil 😂😂😂
I gotta look into that hair colour line! 👀 so pigmented!!
I think it's so funny that all of most people are using coconut oil. I love when u hear they are using it the faces u make , I laugh so hard but they don't listen , I listen.
Hello Buddha hope you have a wonderful day. In the end she did get a nice shade of red
Years ago I used to use this exact colour/brand. It's a conditioning colour, no developer required. It did used to fade quite fast on me but when it started to fade I'd just mix a spoonful in with my conditioner to freshen up the colour! It's very affordable too, highly recommend!
This brand is why my friend's tub still looks like a crime scene it stained so bad
I’m impressed by the coverage and evenness of that direct dye, unless she did it twice more off camera. Why she didn’t wear gloves 🧤is perplexing.
"Directions" is a semipermanent color like :Manic panic" or "Arctic fox". I use it too. If the hands are stained from the product, then use hand sanitisers to get rid of it.
Im just 2:57 minutes in and your face after the she showed the jar of coconut oil was priceless 😂😂😂
I've used Directions. Colors are beautiful and they sell a white to mix (almost) all colors if you want pastel. I knew this was a temporary dye, but still, some colors fainted really fast. Almost gone after washing twice. Some stayed in quite long and even fainted those were quite beautiful.
2:52 I knew this reaction was coming and I still died!
Your videos 📹 brightens up my day. Love watching you from the UK 🇬🇧 wish you would sort out my hair.
Better than I expected but I still laughed at the coconut oil and other mistakes! 😂
When she showed the coconut oil I LMAO because I knew how you'd react.
Directions are grate. They don't give you the feeling of damaging your hair too much. Your hair feel always soft after dyeing. It's an old, well known punk brand for really colourful hair colours. I used it already 20 years ago
Dear Hair Buddha, please teach us how to properly mix and use a bleach wash! If you already did please link us the video! Thank you! :)
@@BunBunisdundun dann werde ich wohl eher alpine als nächstes nehmen 🙈
@@janinamikaelsonempfehle ich auch😭😭😭
ich will keine blaue Haare mehr. R.I.P. 😂
Hi, Hair Buddha! Can I ask your advise? I have coarse hair and I'm looking for a suitable leave-in conditioner spray. From the USA they recommend Pureology Color Fanatic Spray 200ml, but it is not sold in Europe. I would like to use it mainly after regular washing to keep my hair hydrated. Thank you in advance for your reply.
I was bleaching my hair the other day - and imagined doing a video showing coconut oil... 40vol and stating when it was orange to say its blonde. Just knowing it would give you conniptions 😂
As soon as she said coconut oil, my first thought was, "calm down". Alot of people need to research what to do and not to do. I can't understand the wastage, also to save people's hair from falling out and breaking and melting.
I must say I absolutely love that colour!
