I think the beginning of it was supposed to be a flashback to the war of the Order against the followers of the Frenzied Flame, that left the merchants as pretty much the last remnants of that group.

@@Splatcake I will be shocked if fromsoft doesn't take some notes from the seamless co-op mod. IDK if they will integrate some kind of similar functionality into ER with DLC, or their next game. But if they don't do one or the other it would be pretty dumb of them IMO. It's crazy how popular it is (~1.6 million downloads from the nexus), not surprising with how much fun it is and easy to use (just drag and drop some files). I've played hours of that mod with my cousin and had SO much fun. WAY more fun than we ever had playing the games built in multiplayer. And it's amazing how perfectly it works. But yeah that was my first thought when I saw that shot. Only 30 days to go!

I think it is a bunch of npc’s, as the big stone armour guy is there. Considering it’s the story trailer it perhaps means all these npc’s are here for the same reason as us, finding miquella. But I hope it means better coop and invading

It just clicked with me that the butterfly trio probably isn't Malenia (aeonia), Miquella (nascent), and Melina (smoldering). Its probably Mesmer as the smoldering butterflies. Perhaps the secret hidden child wasn't our mysterious maiden, but an actually forgotten child. I mean the only flame-related thing Melina did was burn herself for the Erdtree, but Vyke's story suggests any maiden can do that. Mesmer, on the other hand, is all about fire.
Melina may not be Marika’s hidden child, but there’s definitely a connection between Mesmer and the Kindling Maidens. Maybe they are descendants or followers of Mesmer, sent by him to serve those who he deems worthy. But, with the Tarnished burning down the Erdtree, Mesmer is pissed off and wants the Tarnished gone
@@RottenPieceof Melina is definitely related to Marika, due to how she talks about Marika and how she knows so much about her. It could have been four kids with Radagon, it could be that Melina is an offshoot of Marika somehow.

bandai are the ones publishing and by extension advertising it, there's a very predictable track record for when they will advertise games. just last year ac6 and tekken8 had a story trailer drop a month before release too and we should expect content creators showcasing the game followed a week or so after.
although this is an expansion instead of a new game meaning less new game mechanics to show off compared to a new title so maybe it won't be the same things this time but most people were expecting something this week.
TL;DR marketing is getting better and better and minimizing how much the spend to reach as many as possible so you are glazing the wrong people. and indirectly a corporation 🤢🤭

I just spent an hour looking over it for clues and piecing bits together. I dont even have a youtube channel it just seemed like fun. And like... its gunna be more then 3 hours if they want to explain all the different story threads. This thing feels like its pulling together like more then half of the threads. Fall of Nox? Check. The Gloam Eyed Queen, and the sealing of destined death? Probably check. Miquellas plan? And his relation to St. Trina? Obviously check. The god eating serpent heresy? Check. The end of the non-illusory erdtree and its sap? Probably check. The piles of frozen people in the Nox cities? Maybe? etc etc.

the original elden ring theme is very heroic and uplifting in the grand scheme of it all. the central theme is to rise and become the elden lord. I’m glad the DLC is keeping the same themes and the score definitely helps. It’s exciting

The quote about beginning, seduction, and betrayal is about marikas origins as elden lord. She entered Godhood and was seduced by the greater will to be its vassal (all outer gods need a host to have influence in the lands between, Morgott tried to make miquella the host for his God, the formless mother, malenia is the host for the sealed god of scarlet rott, melina is the host of the twin bird/death and you are the host for the frenzied flame in one ending.) and in turn betrayed her people, as she was the tool the greater will used to destroy them and replace them.
vaati hasnt made a dedicated video about it but hes talked about it alot. There is a different giant tree under the erdtree, but its
dead. its called the Greatree and it had its own civilization surrounding it, its what the crucible knights were apart of, and its why they are ostracized. The war you see is how that was done, they razed the civilization as a whole, and built a new tree (out of dead bodies, see intro, and also see the dead bodies being sucked into the roots of the erdtree in every dungeon in the game, and the dialogue about how the dead are absorbed into the erdtree, which explains why the greater will gives a shit about having control over the lands between, because people souls = yummy). Vaati summarizes this all into Erdtree = parasite.
miquella went off to learn about this whole conflict, which relates to him as he himself went to war against the erdtree and tried creating his own civilization in opposition to it around the haligtree. He is the primary figure in opposition to the golden order and greater will. Every single shot of this games new area contains the Primordial Greatree standing and the trailer is about the past so, so we can assume that we are running time travel back for the bajjilionth time in a souls games dlc, and we can assume thats where miquella went and where we are following him.

When Marika holds up that gold thread she's basically making the pose of her rune seen on the scarseal.
That's Miquella in the trailed holding a rune.
It looks like she was forming the veil that hid the shadowlands. In the trailer, the narrator also said that it’s a war unseen and can’t be put into song, so I guess this was her before the whole golden order thing.

It seems to be based on the Lion dance puppet from Chinese new years tradition, which has multiple puppeteers inside it. If you pause it at 1:19, you can clearly see the lead puppeteer's hands holding the lower jaw.

I have not been this excited for a update in years.
Wait a minute. I think the graces in the shadow lands are actually Miquella’s rune, which would make sense because grace abandoned these lands so the place we rest at must be some form of his rune acting as the grace in this land.
Plus it resembles his twin’s rune, Malenia
And this is maybe how the new levelling system is Miyazaki said there will be a new levelling system similar to Sekiro it will make sense that we get stronger by visiting more sites of grace ( miquella rune) and basically collecting fragments from the graces until we get the whole rune
Also resembles the Halo Scythe, weapon of the Cleanrot Knights who served Miquella and Malenia

@@realhidetaka the souls games are incredibly thoughtful and rewarding its like these guys are from the future and know how to make a complete game without it feeling so ... Gamey Industry--y. Like Cyberpunk2077 failed so badly to me. It felt so corporate while having this anti-corporate terrorist character that doesn't seem to have much a motive to his actions other than "big corporation bad" and blowing shit up without any real meaning to it.
Lemme put it this way @@realhidetaka. Fromsoftware are the only people I will pre order a game/DLC from anymore.
@@realhidetaka I know some people are fed up of games that seem to be designed to leech money off you. Whether that be through lots of micro-transactions, or a cash-cow series of games being abused. In comparison, From Software are of course still offering a product, but you're treated to games that had an extreme amount of love put into them, and are very well designed to boot, with no hidden fees. They're not alone, Larion Studios is another studio who similarly just seem to be concerned with delivering high quality games they love. Team Cherry is also another studio that comes to mind.
It's a shame hearing game-devs talk about the industry, because a lot of them seem to also be just as concerned with delivering good quality games. But horrible management at studios, especially bigger ones, prevent them from making the games they truly want to make. And it seems like it's been an issue within the industry for a long time, many, many stories of management prioritizing what they think will make the most profits and appease their shareholders.

I think the start of the trailer may depict the formation of the golden order, as Marika seems to pull golden strands out of something that looks similar to what is worn by the godskin apostles, and according to the "Mending rune of death", the golden order was created by sealing the rune of death, which Marika did, after Maliketh defeated the gloam eyed queen, who wielded destined death, and who was the leader of the godskin apostles. In addition the trailer mentions that it was "an affair in which gold arose", which sounds a lot like its hinting at the "golden order" rising.
Nha i dont think so.golden order came after the age of plenty ( Godfrey ) with radagon, this is about how marika became a god,prior to the age of plenty so along time ago.

Dark souls 1 sends you back to partake in the legend of artorius, dark souls 2 sends you back to the war with the giants. Like you get to see and take part in these events, I don't get this complaint.

I like that it seems like they're keeping Miquella as someone actually trying to make the Lands Between a better place. He's still otherworldly and kind of terrifying in a subtle way, but it's nice that he seems to be motivated by a genuinely altruistic desire to reduce suffering.
Now I'm sure we'll eventually learn that Miquella *IS* Messmer or that he secretly eats babies, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it

Miquella is so sus. The love he inspires on people is almost cult-like and bordering on zealous (But he's divine so maybe this can be excused) He's honestly the most 'godly' out of all the Empyreans. We'll find out if he eats babies soon.

What if the first scene we saw with marika standing at the centre of the two masses of corpses was the ACTUAL origin of the erdtree?? If u look closely and with some imagination, it seems like the corpses are the cortex of the erdtree, while marika is in front of the future entrance (of the erdtree). Also, between her hands she's got the grace, from which gold will be born (the erdtree), I MEAN the dlc will probably explain the origin of the erdtree and marika no? If what I'm saying is true, that means marika is even worse than we imagined.
Because that means she killed so many people, and at the start of the trailer it is even said that she seduced and betrayed x, and after that a war started which was hidden from history records, because of how disgusting it was. Looks like marika, whatever she did, wanted no one to know, that explains why she sent Mesmer (her son probably) to the shadow realm where he became a tyrant.
Anyway, sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue
I really hope that Messmer isn't just a silent final boss at the end of the DLC, I hope he talks and interacts with us throughout the DLC to flesh him out more as a character (and have sick voice lines for edits)

fromsoft never reveals the final boss in trailers
I think the final boss will be either St. Trina or the Gloam-Eyed-Queen. It appears as St Trina was abandoned by Miquella and apparently she has some sort of an unnerving adult form, but we will see eventually.

The stylization of the characters is beyond me as an artist. Such love for uniqueness and originality. FromSoftware is constantly seeking to break from conventional design. I love it.
