Miss Tokyo Fun Right?! Like no joke I was frustrated with most of the game cause I couldn't play any of the interesting bits of the stages. 80% of the game plays itself. Why do people defend this shit?
It's amazing how much some defend Forces. I haven't played it but I can tell its gameplay is bad. I thought Generations was a "linear modern Sonic game" until I read about how good some of its levels were with alternative paths. Forces is way more linear with automation than Generations and...Generations has more polish like Unleashed. To the people that defend Forces, try Generations then compare it to Forces.
There are even some fanboys in forums that are saying that is better than other gamesof 2017. You can search the on the Internet but be careful (one of them is a SEGA forum...). I mean, Sonic Forces is a good game if you see gameplays but if you play it... ugh.. no thanks.
The gameplay is insultingly easy and shallow. Classic Sonic's psychics and general gameplay disappointed me to the point of buying Mania in desperation. And I mostly prefer Modern Sonic (I suck at the Classic games).

I love how they throw all these rings at you and what do they do? NOTHING! Unless you care about score, they're useless. Unleashed had them actually be a currency and serve a purpose, but here? Nah they do nothing, but fill stages that would otherwise be empty and lifeless.

SupaGoGoMan repetitive is the word your looking for, which admittedly is a problem. Admittedly, I find the game to be a below average _Sonic_ game. But a good beat em up game that almost reaches greatness on its own (pinball aside).

Really? Heroes was super buggy and I couldn't stand a couple stages, one of which being that fucking pinball level. Forces is a lot smoother experience, however a lot of people consider it to be too smooth. To the point where the game plays itself at times. Personally I prefer Forces. I wouldn't call either game tripe though.

I wouldn't. I don't fancy having to replay almost the exact same game four times over just to get the True Ending and little else. To each their own, though.
Jake Murrin is right. One playthrough of Team Sonic is all you need. The True Ending grind was probably just put in for kids who had way too much time on their hands and nothing else to do.
In the words of Knuckles, oh no. At least Forces is only like, two hours long, so your suffering is brief. Heroes is a marathon of shitty stages back to back with bosses here and there while you’re fighting the slippery controls.

The first 4 stages in Sonic Heroes are already better and more memorable than ANYTHING in Forces. It also has a thing called L E V E L D E S I G N, where the stages aren't literally straight lines. The final two stages, Egg Fleet and Final Fortress are a perfect example of how multiple pathways in a 3D Sonic game should work. I'd rather have a somewhat unpolished game with mostly great levels than a game that is just "meh" through and through. Also, about the length; One playthrough of Team Sonic is more than enough. Having to play through the game 4 times for two bosses is not worth it. I believe I already mentioned that in this thread.
How do you think this game's scoring system is compared to Colors? Obviously the requirement for getting an S-rank is pretty low, but does trying to get a high score feel more fun than Colors? I like how Colors score system gives you an incentive to take alt routes by needing to use the wisp powers and getting as many red rings as possible, but for the most part you can easily cheese high scores by spamming wisp powers and side-stepping/drifting a lot.
I ACTUALLY THINK THE GENERAL SCORING SYSTEM IN FORCES IS, AT IT'S CORE, BETTER THAN COLOURS. IT'S ESSENTIALLY THE SAME SYSTEM; BOTH GAMES GIVE POINTS FOR RINGS, ENEMIES DEFEATED, RED RINGS, GOING THROUGH RAINBOW HOOPS AND EVEN THINGS LIKE GRINDING. YOU ALSO NO LONGER EARN POINTS FOR SPAMMING WISP POWERS, DRIFTING AND SIDE STEPPING DRIFTING AND SIDESTEPPING WHICH I THINK IS AN IMPROVEMENT. WHILE I THINK YOU SHOULD STILL GET POINTS FOR USING WISP POWERS, COLOURS DEFINITELY WENT OVERBOARD REWARDING THE PLAYER WITH THOUSANDS OF POINTS EVERY SECOND THEY HAD A WISP ACTIVE. IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD'VE BEEN A GENERAL SCORE MULTIPLIER WHILST IN WISP FORM OR A ONE-OFF SCORE BONUS PER USE. THE TIME BONUS IN FORCES ALSO HAS A MORE SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON FINAL SCORE WHICH I THINK IS BETTER. That's a valid point. I think what they probably should do for wisp powers is give you points for activating the wisp and then have a multiplier for chaining together multiple wisp powers before the meter drains.
Fun Fact: You can enjoy something (Sonic Heroes) even though other people say it's bad. You don't even need to justify why you like it, unless you think that person's criticism will prevent other people from trying it out themselves. This goes for just about everything, not just video games. Note: Criticism is not inherently bad, by the way. Unless you trust the person doing the critique, just take it with a grain of salt.

The tag team double boost should've been like the chase sequences in Sonic 06. Avatar could be holding on to Sonic as he's going insanely fast but then you have the Avatar grappling hook things (maybe a QTE or shortcut) to get to other areas
I've never seen collecting rings as a higher priority goal than speed for the purpose of scoring in a Sonic game, but the idea is actually pretty interesting. As far as the "bowling pin enemies" topic goes, I remember you mentioning that you liked the Egg Chasers from Sonic Colors. They definitely need to design more enemies like that that cause you to MOVE in new ways. Maybe they could add in enemies that DON'T die in one hit and follow you through a corridor for a while or something like the hovering GUN robots with electric shields from Sonic Adventure 2 timed in such a way that requires you to be quick so that you can homing attack it and branch off to an alternate route before its shield goes up. Enemies that die when you boost through them aren't enemies, they're crates.
There's also a Void Wispon which : - Awards a Ring for every enemy defeated - Awards bonus points by defeating a chain of enemies - Awards bonus points for collecting 100 Rings.

Honestly this game looks hella fun, I'll probably pick it up now after seeing your videos on it. The core problem seems to be that it's horribly short, and I agree, every level just screams wasted potential. But it still looks like a fun experience to play through.
What if the avatars grappling hook was like web slinging in Spider-Man, where you build momentum to gain speed to get something, find something or chase after something or... or... something!
The thing about score attack in Colors was that to get the S rank on every level, you had to actually work for it. You had to learn the alternate routes, get better with timing to shave off seconds, possibly even find all five Red Rings in the one run. Unfortunately, in Forces (like Generations), it's too easy to get the S rank, and it doesn't mean anything. (Also, UA-cam, fix your damn comments.)
I don't believe the game is bad, its simply unfinished. The game feels shallow because SEGA probably had to rush the game to compete with Mario Odyssey. If they had spent more time on it, it would've been a great game.
I tried to see how the double boost react to how you press, and it doesn't, it's just, you succed, or you fail, I wish that the more presses you made, the faster you boosted, you could have been able to reach so crazy speed with auto press controllers. For the score end, I think you should have made a new wolf OC to see how many level ups you can make in a single stage.

You know, when I played Sonic Mania....I actually felt accomplished getting those achievements/trophies and unlocking other material. Yet Sonic Forces hands out S ranks like it's going out of style. It's probably a challenge to get all E ranks, if those still even exist.
Lightning and wolf is faster and does get you 999 rings if you can get 200 before the double boost section ( the one with defeating enemies gives you rings really helps a small bit)
I would be fine if the game was just the tag team levels but better designed and longer with more interactive double boost sections, better bosses, a better story, better controls, no 2D, slightly better visuals, and a greater variety of enemies.
Black Pants First, I Avoided all Enemies and Rings before the double boost section, and ran out of regular boost, then I jumped over the rings and enemies during the double boost section.

It's amazing how much some defend Forces. I haven't played it but I can tell its gameplay is bad. I thought Generations was a "linear modern Sonic game" until I read about how good some of its levels were with alternative paths. Forces is way more linear with automation than Generations and...Generations has more polish like Unleashed. To the people that defend Forces, try Generations then compare it to Forces.
There are even some fanboys in forums that are saying that is better than other gamesof 2017. You can search the on the Internet but be careful (one of them is a SEGA forum...). I mean, Sonic Forces is a good game if you see gameplays but if you play it... ugh.. no thanks.
The gameplay is insultingly easy and shallow. Classic Sonic's psychics and general gameplay disappointed me to the point of buying Mania in desperation. And I mostly prefer Modern Sonic (I suck at the Classic games).

I love how they throw all these rings at you and what do they do? NOTHING! Unless you care about score, they're useless. Unleashed had them actually be a currency and serve a purpose, but here? Nah they do nothing, but fill stages that would otherwise be empty and lifeless.

Really? Heroes was super buggy and I couldn't stand a couple stages, one of which being that fucking pinball level. Forces is a lot smoother experience, however a lot of people consider it to be too smooth. To the point where the game plays itself at times.

I wouldn't. I don't fancy having to replay almost the exact same game four times over just to get the True Ending and little else. To each their own, though.
Jake Murrin is right. One playthrough of Team Sonic is all you need. The True Ending grind was probably just put in for kids who had way too much time on their hands and nothing else to do.

The first 4 stages in Sonic Heroes are already better and more memorable than ANYTHING in Forces. It also has a thing called L E V E L D E S I G N, where the stages aren't literally straight lines. The final two stages, Egg Fleet and Final Fortress are a perfect example of how multiple pathways in a 3D Sonic game should work. I'd rather have a somewhat unpolished game with mostly great levels than a game that is just "meh" through and through. Also, about the length; One playthrough of Team Sonic is more than enough. Having to play through the game 4 times for two bosses is not worth it. I believe I already mentioned that in this thread.
How do you think this game's scoring system is compared to Colors? Obviously the requirement for getting an S-rank is pretty low, but does trying to get a high score feel more fun than Colors? I like how Colors score system gives you an incentive to take alt routes by needing to use the wisp powers and getting as many red rings as possible, but for the most part you can easily cheese high scores by spamming wisp powers and side-stepping/drifting a lot.
I ACTUALLY THINK THE GENERAL SCORING SYSTEM IN FORCES IS, AT IT'S CORE, BETTER THAN COLOURS. IT'S ESSENTIALLY THE SAME SYSTEM; BOTH GAMES GIVE POINTS FOR RINGS, ENEMIES DEFEATED, RED RINGS, GOING THROUGH RAINBOW HOOPS AND EVEN THINGS LIKE GRINDING. YOU ALSO NO LONGER EARN POINTS FOR SPAMMING WISP POWERS, DRIFTING AND SIDE STEPPING DRIFTING AND SIDESTEPPING WHICH I THINK IS AN IMPROVEMENT. WHILE I THINK YOU SHOULD STILL GET POINTS FOR USING WISP POWERS, COLOURS DEFINITELY WENT OVERBOARD REWARDING THE PLAYER WITH THOUSANDS OF POINTS EVERY SECOND THEY HAD A WISP ACTIVE. IN MY OPINION IT SHOULD'VE BEEN A GENERAL SCORE MULTIPLIER WHILST IN WISP FORM OR A ONE-OFF SCORE BONUS PER USE. THE TIME BONUS IN FORCES ALSO HAS A MORE SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON FINAL SCORE WHICH I THINK IS BETTER.
I THINK THE PROBLEM IS FORCES AND IT'S LEVELS IS THEY JUST AREN'T EXPANSIVE ENOUGH TO REALLY CAPITALISE ON THE SCORING SYSTEM; IN COLOURS YOU CAN GET POINTS BY USING WISPS TO FIND ALTERNATE PATHS WITH LOTS OF RINGS OR ENEMIES. IN THIS GAME THE BEST WAY OF GETTING POINTS IS FINDING ALL THE RINGS WHICH SOMETIMES BOILS DOWN TO GRABBING THE BURST OR HOVER WISP AND FLOATING ABOVE EVERYTHING INFINITELY ABOVE THE STAGE TO COLLECT THE MOUNTAIN OF EASILY ACCESSIBLE RINGS JUST SITTING THERE. AND MOST MODERN SONIC STAGES ARE SO LINEAR THAT THERE'S NOT MANY ALT PATHS TO ACCESS FOR EXTRA POINTS, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST THERE'S AN INCENTIVE TO HOARD AS MANY RINGS AS POSSIBLE.
ALSO A FEW OF THE FEATURES PRESENT IN PREVIOUS BOOST GAMES THAT AREN'T PRESENT IN FORCES COULD'VE BEEN USED TO OFFER MORE INCENTIVE FOR POINTS; YOU CAN NO LONGER DO AIR TRICKS LIKE IN GENERATIONS, WHICH COULD'VE OFFERED POINTS. That's a valid point. I think what they probably should do for wisp powers is give you points for activating the wisp and then have a multiplier for chaining together multiple wisp powers before the meter drains.

Fun Fact: You can enjoy something (Sonic Heroes) even though other people say it's bad. You don't even need to justify why you like it, unless you think that person's criticism will prevent other people from trying it out themselves. This goes for just about everything, not just video games.

The tag team double boost should've been like the chase sequences in Sonic 06. Avatar could be holding on to Sonic as he's going insanely fast but then you have the Avatar grappling hook things (maybe a QTE or shortcut) to get to other areas

I've never seen collecting rings as a higher priority goal than speed for the purpose of scoring in a Sonic game, but the idea is actually pretty interesting.
As far as the "bowling pin enemies" topic goes, I remember you mentioning that you liked the Egg Chasers from Sonic Colors. They definitely need to design more enemies like that that cause you to MOVE in new ways. Maybe they could add in enemies that DON'T die in one hit and follow you through a corridor for a while or something like the hovering GUN robots with electric shields from Sonic Adventure 2 timed in such a way that requires you to be quick so that you can homing attack it and branch off to an alternate route before its shield goes up. Enemies that die when you boost through them aren't enemies, they're crates.

Honestly this game looks hella fun, I'll probably pick it up now after seeing your videos on it. The core problem seems to be that it's horribly short, and I agree, every level just screams wasted potential. But it still looks like a fun experience to play through.

Huh, I didn't know Karkat Vantas had a UA-cam channel.
The thing about score attack in Colors was that to get the S rank on every level, you had to actually work for it. You had to learn the alternate routes, get better with timing to shave off seconds, possibly even find all five Red Rings in the one run. Unfortunately, in Forces (like Generations), it's too easy to get the S rank, and it doesn't mean anything.

I don't believe the game is bad, its simply unfinished. The game feels shallow because SEGA probably had to rush the game to compete with Mario Odyssey. If they had spent more time on it, it would've been a great game.
I tried to see how the double boost react to how you press, and it doesn't, it's just, you succed, or you fail, I wish that the more presses you made, the faster you boosted, you could have been able to reach so crazy speed with auto press controllers.
For the score end, I think you should have made a new wolf OC to see how many level ups you can make in a single stage.

My dubble boost glitch out they flail there arms and walk it's funny then they go fast I think it's the double boost animation but walk speed it's funny

You know, when I played Sonic Mania....I actually felt accomplished getting those achievements/trophies and unlocking other material.
Yet Sonic Forces hands out S ranks like it's going out of style. It's probably a challenge to get all E ranks, if those still even exist.
Lightning and wolf is faster and does get you 999 rings if you can get 200 before the double boost section ( the one with defeating enemies gives you rings really helps a small bit)
In Nintendo Switch version it does not do that

Actually, that lightning wisp passage did look kind of interesting (compared to the entire rest of the stage which is mostly enemy smashing).

I would be fine if the game was just the tag team levels but better designed and longer with more interactive double boost sections, better bosses, a better story, better controls, no 2D, slightly better visuals, and a greater variety of enemies.

Black Pants First, I Avoided all Enemies and Rings before the double boost section, and ran out of regular boost, then I jumped over the rings and enemies during the double boost section.
