    It's just crazy how many useful things you can run on a simple Pi 4 with "just" 8GB RAM. Back in the days it was such a big leap for me to go from a Pi 1B 512MB to a Pi 3B+ 1GB. Currently I have a 3B+ and 3B running for a total of 2GB RAM. For Nextcloud I'll definitely need something bigger than that.

      So you combined the 2 pi’s as one or share workload. What software combines resources and makes them sync? Newbie here. Lol gotta video channel? I got some 3s I need to use.

  • @smartassist9700

    Watching for yrs. This setup impressed me. I need to start “that” now. As I grow, I’ll have a setup to take growth. Then as you stated , adding a second pi4 to share and continue building.
    It’s over my head, yes. But I need to start base now. Then I can connect to PI 4s in Asia to manage them. Now SEPERATE and a pain. I have a friend caring for them. One base, the ticket.

    I like to run OpenSpeedTest to diagnose when my WiFi is slow if it's the AP itself or the internet connection. It's good to check the LAN throughput as well.

    *Please consider listing in your "SHOW MORE" the specification details for the base Linux O/S, docker container engine, e.g. listed Portainer/containers and any speculation on the potential use of Proxmox Debian 11 with LXC containers to support the Portainer/dockers containers with your pi configuation.*

    How about a tutorial for a LAMP stack on Pi4 armV7?

    i switched from jackett to prowlarr a while ago and haven't looked back. it integrates much easier with and simpler than jackett since it automates the steps into sonarr and radarr without any additional config required

    just use the alpine version of every container
    and you will cut the ram usage by almost 60%
    i have 9 containers and i only used about 700mb of ram (total use, with system and everything)

    Can you do some self-hosting on Raspberry Pi with a self-hosted or a pi-hosted CA server?

  • @SandWraith0
    @SandWraith0 Рік тому +2

    I'm just a beginner. I ordered (just got it in) the rpi4 8gb model after I saw your Pi-hosted series. Really looking forward to setting everything up just like you did. Was just wondering, how did you get your (torrent) downloaders/Sonar/Radar and Jellyfin to manage files in your NAS? Do you happen to have a tutorial (or link) about how to set that up? Thanks in advance

    great video, love this serie of video
    i have 14 container running 24/7
    i have some container that i run when i "need" like vs-code juste for coding some programmation
    docker is a great "tool", i can make web application (reactjs, angular, python, html,js,css etc) and deploy them as container, this is insane to me and easy to do/maintain
    we can even have mysql (mariadb) as container

    if you were to have a kubernetes cluster of 2 4gb pis, would it still reach its ram limit? i have two raspberry pis 4gb and im thinking about turning it into a kubernetes cluster but idk if the resources are split in half, im a kubernetes noob

    • @neilcresswell6539
      @neilcresswell6539 2 роки тому +1

      You will loose 600mb of ram on each node for Kubernetes.. and you need fast disk (ssd/nvme) to work reliably.

    Hi Dom, do you seperate your server services/utilities/tools of certain categories into multiple devices?
    For example:
    1 Network Server (VPN/PiHole/DNS etc) to 1 device
    1 File/Media Server to 1 Device
    Etc? Or do you put all in one device?

    Will most/all of these work on other systems? I've lately bought some mini PCs to utilize as servers and wondering if I could build a similar stack on one of those... Not seeing why I can't.

    I may have missed it, but how do you add a pre-existing program (AdGuard) that is on the Raspberry Pi and installed prior to the Docker install? I also installed Portainer since adding Docker. Thanks

    How does this compare with something like DietPi OS? Your setup sounds like it might be more difficult to set up and not as flexible?

    So frustrated - Pi 32 bit - fresh install. all updated twice - I want to install Pi-Hole / Unbound from your app template. I get it to work but want to add port 67 udp for DHCP and it don't work. I used to use just Pi-hole as DHCP with mac vLAN. I think this is what is missing. Because when ever I click the DHCP box in Pi-Hole pi-hole stops working. I'm hoping to have 192.168.x2 be the server and 192.168.x.3 be the dns server.

      it's not hard to setup but most ISP will block port 25 so this will have to be on a VPS or dedi outside of the network

      Selfhosting a mail server will be the rest of your life. It's REALLY not a good idea to self host a mail server.

      Already doing it for years. Only an issue if you allow posting from outside the local network. As a place to capture and consolidate a number of different email address it works for me.

      I had the same issue, what I did instead was install Open Media Vault (I needed a Nas and this works awesome) but in OMV under the extras tab of the web interface, you can install portainer in one click which will also install docker for you. From there just open a new tab, navigate to the Pi’s IP with a : and the port number and set up portainer right there. Hope this helps
