    10 years after its release, 289 is still the best multimeter ever. Only downside is slow starting. I wish fluke released 389 with a lithium battery, faster start and a new chip

      I agree Samuel that the FLUKE 289 is the best multimeter ever, but the startup time wasn’t an issue until other UA-camRS started making it an issue. The multimeter takes a little while longer to start it goes through an enteral detailed checklist to make sure that everything that should work, works properly. But that’s the quality of FLUKE instruments always going the extra mile with the quality of their instruments. We have to learn to appreciate it that why the 289 is still number one among multimeters after all these years. Even among those very fast startup multimeters Fluke is still #☝️.That’s just my opinion , thanks for watching brother 👍🏿

      @@TheElectriciansToolChannel I love this meter but can't justify the cost for me personlly. Been looking on ebay but no luck. Any chances these meters get sold for lower price on ebay? I don't see why anyone would sell it unless it's damaged beyond repair.
      Also, how much did you pay for your entire kit? Has it paid for itself by now?

      Welcome back Lorenzo, I don’t use my 289 as much. I only use it for special projects, because of its special features. I have other meters for everyday use. The FLUKE 289 / 287 is a beast it’s more or less a handheld computer. As always thank you for stopping by and be safe.

    However, there is a problem with this meter, if it drops (not that high) one of the fotodiode's can come of the pcb.
    It's a very tiny smd diode package, that watches the correct entry of your leads.
    I know 2 other people who had this problem, and so did mine 289.
    Then it warns you that you can't measure, because it registers a faulty lead (amps in stead of voltage)
    You can solder it again, but be carefull with taking it apart, because if the diode falls out, you never may find it again.
    That's how little it is...

    • @TheElectriciansToolChannel
      @TheElectriciansToolChannel  3 роки тому +1

      I never experienced any issues with mine, and I hope I don’t. I haven’t dropped mine basically when I use it , it’s being used as a bench multimeter. Mine may have some defects that haven’t shown themselves yet.

      It’s a very common issue. It happened to me and I don’t recall ever dropping mine. It’s all over UA-cam and eBay even sells a kit to fix it.

      You won’t regret your purchase. The 289 was and to me it still is the most advanced multimeter on the market today. That’s why you see so many other top name brands mimicking the 289. If you noticed the 289 was put on the market in Oct. 2007 and FLUKE haven’t introduced a new version of the 289. I guess why should you when there’s nothing else you could add to a multimeter. Now all the accessories you see are from FLUKE except the two magnetic 🧲 probes they’re from AEMC Instruments. Thanks for watching, happy holidays to you and yours.👍🏽

    I really do not think that this meter is needed for the average basic electrician at all. It is far too complex. So I think that simple..... basic meters are just fine for an average electrician. However for a HVAC technician maybe, just maybe you want one that is a little more complex but still. Fluke 289 a a little overkill and is more aimed at people into electronic labs where a true complexity and a very high level of precision is really needed and the Fluke 289 can deliver that no doubt!. However all of the above I like it very much and wouldn't mind owning one. Tnx. for the video. Great !!!!

    • @TheElectriciansToolChannel
      @TheElectriciansToolChannel  4 роки тому +6

      I agree that the FLUKE 289 Multimeter is an advanced test instrument. But, with that being said I feel if you knew enough to study and pass your electrician exam and/or perform electrical work according to code you’re able to master the functionality of the FLUKE 289 or any other test instrument if you apply yourself. Now if you’re just a fuse replacing , wire pulling, circuit breaker resetting electrical worker, you don’t need to purchase a Fluke 289 the functions maybe somewhat complex for the very basic electrician with limited knowledge. But if you’re the true professional, the go to guy , the person who whenever you speak everyone listens then YOU BETTER HAVE A FLUKE 289 plus additional advanced test instruments in your arsenal. My videos are simply for entertaining purposes, and my love for tools( Top Of The Line Tools Only ). Ovi , thanks for your comment, thanks for stopping by it’s a pleasure knowing that one of my videos grabbed your attention and you’re absolutely welcome back anytime. Be safe.

      Well said indeed, I couldn’t agree more. If or whenever you decide to purchase a Fluke 289 as you already know it will be money well spent. Fluke broke the mold after they built this multimeter they thought of everything. There’s nothing this highly advanced test instrument can’t do except make phone calls. Give it some time and Fluke will figure out a way to incorporate sending your data from your meter via WiFi/Bluetooth without a computer, believe me that’s the next step for the 289. One more thing as you already know Fluke is the industry leader when it comes to test instruments. When possible google graphical multimeters and you’ll see how many other companies trying to mimic the design from the 289 into their multimeters. . . Lol. Have a great day Ovi.

    Uses 6 AA.. And it's a power hog. So I bought 12 Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries. As I was spending too much on AA 25 pack batteries..

    • @TheElectriciansToolChannel
      @TheElectriciansToolChannel  5 років тому +1

      True, it would’ve been nice if it came with an AC adapter. You know when I purchased this meter I thought I would have been using it more than I do or did. I use my FLUKE 376 clamp meter more. But it’s still nice to have because there will come a time when I’ll really really need it and I’ll have it. Do you get what I’m saying, be safe out there.

      @@TheElectriciansToolChannel I use mine everyday.. With the 438 Power Analyzer. They paid for themselves 10x over just in saving the Customers losing a $100,000.00 worth of motors from premature failure. Unbalanced loads. Loose lugs. Over voltage. It can find them.
      You can use a Battery pack. If you can find them anymore. That allows 10 days use 24/7... As you have to document everything. To get the State Rebates back.

    • @TheElectriciansToolChannel
      @TheElectriciansToolChannel  5 років тому +1

      I didn’t know if the battery pack can be used with this model, I thought it was for the older 189 model only ? I will do the research to see if there’s a battery pack of some sort for the 289. I’ll contact FLUKE.

      @@TheElectriciansToolChannel You can make the 189 pack work on a 289.. kimboricha.blogspot.com/2014/01/make-1900ma-fluke-189-high-capacity.html
      I better make it clear too. The link is for building an external power source for the 189. As it uses 4 AA. So it's 5 volt DC input. The 289 is 7.2 volt. As it uses 6 AA. So if you plan to build one for the 289. Be sure to design it around 7.2 volts DC..Not % volts DC...All you need to buy is an extra backing plate. To keep the Meter sealed. As it left the factory.
