Instablaster...
just love how their vibe keeps mellowing while the intensity keeps increasing - it's like good wine - just gets better and better. It's truly one of the best bands in this genre ever. By genre I mean "the genre they made themselves". :D This is what music is supposed to be; real, original and faaaaaaar from a "product" in any sense. That band has been my favourite from the first time I heard them until this day. EDIT: Apart from Coltrane and Davis - obviously. But these guys are meta-jazz - so it don't count :D
And apart crom Metheny! 😝😅
I want a compilation of Reid explaining what each song is about
Great show. BTW is it just my speakers or the bass is overdriven and boomey in this recording?
The sound is terrible. Levels are all over the place... kick drum and bass are both clipping. Quite a mess
Yeah, shame about the recording quality. The bass and kick drum are constantly crushing each other and pulling the level of the mix down, so the piano and drums lose all their clarity. There’s also no tone to the bass.
Mixed for the room, not the board.
@@freebird1969 That makes a lot of sense!
It's not just you.
What is it about people that sit at the front, at small intimate venues, that is so irritating? Surely matey boy on the left could have eaten before or after the gig. And why on earth, in this oversaturated day and age, does matey boy on right have to take photos? And it's thoroughly depressing how empty the venue is. And tech guy, the bass is distorting my two grand Samsung. Another great gig, however, from my favourite trio!
These guys are so tight and creative.
Orrin's eatin' those arrangements up. So tight. So free.
does anyone have any clue what time signature dovetail nicely is (at least mostly) in?
feels like 6/8?
it's 11/8. it's counted as a 4/4 bar of a tresillo rhythm (ONE e and UH two e AND uh) + a sneaky bar of 3/8 (ONE and uh TWO and uh). then for the little samba(?) break, they re-contextualize every 3rd 8th note as a new quarter note pulse to play 4 bars of 7/8 and one bar of 2/4.
main rhythm:
ONE e and UH two e AND uh ONE e and UH two e AND uh ONE and a TWO and a
then samba thing (57:37):
ONE e AND uh TWO e AND ONE e AND uh TWO e AND ONE e AND uh TWO e AND ONE e AND uh TWO e AND ONE e AND uh
i bought Prog when i was in high school and i hadn't looked these guys up since then. wow. this is the good shit
can't believe dude just like gets served food and tucks in lmao
14:14 deftones?
Wow. A Deftones reference on a Bad Plus video! Are we music experts or what!
Much thanks to the Pan Galactic Co. for this great, full sound I'm hearing on tiny speakers.
Big Eater should've been dedicated to the guy in the front table , stage left.
And, not trying to be snarky; I mean the guy supported the band, and the establishment-that's awesome. I just can't imagine ordering dinner and eating it at a performance. I guess that's just me. Bon apetit!
And by song 4-5, he's turned back around and enjoying the music, so I'll eat my words now.
and still complained at 32:55 for taking his snack at 31:10
