- For those who wondered what happened after my trip to Labrador, this is the next 3 days as I hurry down the west coast of Newfoundland. My reasons for the rush will become apparent in the last of the series. At least I got to see a couple of attractions at Gros Morne based on viewer's recommendations, and I also found a new secret spot!

If you did not take these trips, and taking us with you, thousands of us would never get to see and appreciate the beauty. Thanks, Slim, on behalf of many of us.
@Mark Lester - well said. I have enjoyed the education I have received from Slim.
Many thanks from one of those many.
Totally agree. You’re a good educational explorer Slim.
We traveled to Newfoundland this summer and although l've been to all 10 provinces now and each is unique and beautiful in there own way , but the rugged beauty of Newfoundland put it at the top of the list. And on top of that the people of Newfoundland push the experience right over top !!! They are without a doubt the friendliest people we have ever met !!! A credit to our country , thank you to them all !!!
What a lovely comment! As a Newfoundlander, I appreciate the compliment, and I'm delighted to know that you enjoyed your visit so fully! Cheers! "Long may your big jib draw!"
In the 60's and 70's I was fond of anything adventurous on tv. I couldn't have imagined that in retirement I would be hooked on a computer vlog hosted by an adventurer named "Slim Potato Head". Safe travels to Slim from a fan in Connecticut.
Absolutely wonderful! From a fan in Washington state! Rock on dude!
And Kentucky.
Thank you from Washington State!
And Tennessee!
And Yorkshire👍
In a world of couples, it’s good to see another solo traveler. I miss my life partner but I have found that I can still enjoy the beauty of nature by myself traveling the roads of our continent and camping in beautiful places.
Slim, I apologize for not commenting more on your video's, but I always give you a thumbs up. But I want you to know I do look forward to your video's...They are awesome, and the places you choose to go, and film, cannot be improved upon. Thanks so much sharing what you see and do. Good filming in the future Slim.
Thanks for bringing us along Slim.
Nature is stunning. How lucky we are to be on this amazing planet, at this point in history. Your videos are inspiring, Slim.
I've never seen this park before. It's beautiful. Thanks Slim.
I love the music that you added to the boat tour video. I know you like to experience nature on your own and being with a lot of people on a boat is probably not your thing, but it’s the only practical way to get to see the whole fjord. Some adventurers with time on their hands take a 5 day hike starting with a boat ride and a hike to the top and the a hike across the plateau and they come down Gros Morne Mountain. If you are ever back this way and have more time, a one day hike up Gros Morne is worth the effort. There are gorgeous views of the mountains, valleys, lakes, coastal plain and the sea from the top. I’d also recommend going to the Cape St. Mary’s Bird Sanctuary on the Avalon Peninsula. It would be right up your alley, with the millions of seabirds on a sea stack within 20 feet of you and dramatic cliff scenery. Maybe another time.
Wow Slim, so beautiful!! The sunset, the waterfalls, the fjord, the rocks, the gentle little plants, all of it. Thank you so much for going to such wonderful places and filming it for us, I really appreciate it.
Ah... Yes. The storm you weathered through. I am patiently waiting for that video.
I love the view from the shore knowing that there is no land until the coast of Europe.... The beauty of mother earth.
Actually, that's the Gulf of St Lawrence to the west. No land until Quebec! SP
Loved the fiord especially the magnificent waterfalls 👍👍😊☮
Good morning Slim , man that is beautiful country. I love the rock , the Ocean and the beautiful sunset. What an awesome place to see and explore. Thank you for taking us along with you! 👍💯
Who needs National Geographic when we have Slim. Thank you for this epic video.
October 3, 2024 Maryland, USA: Another amazing travel, education and a sense of humor. The shoreline in the beginning is very unique in the rocks that seem to sit as ledges. Mother Nature and time sure carves a pretty scene. The smoothness in suggest the ocean may have a hand in its design. There is beauty in the starkness and hearing the ocean. I could sit there all bundled up and just be enveloped in the rhythm of the ocean. I hot drink too would be nice. You have brought to many us places we would never know or experience. But more importantly brought back adventure. We have lost this with all the electronics and social noise. I love when my two grandchildren were 10 and 13 years went to an unbelieveable camping in West Virginia. Although it was with other youths and adults we experience so much. Traveling from Maryland to there the sights along the way to also the conversations that are so priceless now that they are young adults.
Slim, I’m in complete agreement with you concerning your decision not to share some of the special, off the path places you “discover “. Thank you for advocating this style of travel. Keep up the great work.
That boat trip was epic!!
Beautiful. Loved the music too. I tend to hate noise the older I get and love the sound of just nature. No human noise. There are so few places now where you can experience that. Thank you for bringing us on the boat ride.
Slim I had to start this one again to see that sunset at 6:00. I wonder as I watched it again and alone except for your subscribers, do you ever think that you would like to have someone else there with you to enjoy the moment? As I watch it again and get to 6:13 and on, I am just amazed at the beauty and while I hope to get there in the next few years I wanted to thank you for taking us along with you on your adventures today. Some of us including me might only get to see this because we found you. Thank you my friend. Cheers! Frank.
OMG Slim. Newfoundland is now on my "must see" list. Thanks for allowing us to share your adventure.
Wow, wow, wow! ❤❤❤ Slim, I never miss your videos and this one stands out as my current favorite. The scenery is magnificent, and that sunset was beyond anything I could imagine. I did wonder when you were walking on the rocks with your camera how you manage to keep your footing…I’m guessing it’s lots of practice and an innate sense of good balance. Thanks for sharing your travels with us!
we're Newfies and proud of it. No worries.
Mr Nat Geo, you have done it yet again!! Beauty so overwhelming it brings tears to my eyes. I love the earth like you do. And, you bring such happiness to my soul with your ability to capture nature in its most real and raw form. Thank you! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Thank you Slim. Gros Morne has been on my list of places I would like to visit for many years. If I never get there I am very happy to enjoy it through your video.
the scenery on the boat ride was spectacular!! Thanks for capturing that!
Dear Slim, thanks a lot for this new video! Yes, Mother Nature, such an artist with all her rock sculptures…
Wow! Fantastic views on that boat tour! Looks like there would be some great hikes up in those mountains 🏔
You hope we'll join you on your next video? Are you kidding? As soon as I saw "to be continued", I was sorely disappointed that this one was ending and am already waiting for the next!
All those rock faces and didn't see a single climber any where. So beautiful. Thanks Slim.
Wow! I never realized Newfoundland had such dramatic and mountainous terrain! Amazing!
Your videos are always a joy. You capture the beauty of your surroundings, I could feel the wind in part of it - oh my gosh, the waterfall that was blown right off the wall of the canyon!!!!!! Yeah, I'm very glad to have found your channel and kept following. The move out east, the repairs and rebuild of the cabin (guess the red cabin is no longer the right name, I'll have to mentally change that) and these travels are a nice flow from your travels through the desert in the US SW and even your flight to Mexico. Wonderful.
I'm glad you were able to enjoy what you could Slim. Wishing safety during all of the rock climbing while video recording. I appreciate that effort to share such beauty that is on this earth. I love waterfalls in the mountains and on such high cliff terrain. There is something magical about that for sure. Can't wait for the next video to see what you saw of Fiona but am glad you made it out of there safely. Safe travels and thanks for sharing.
I really love the geology content and close-ups of the topography! Thanks Slim~Great progress on the cabin, lots to learn from!
Love the date added to your videos!
This was a special case. Its significance will be apparent later. SP
What a wondrous continent. Canyons, lakes, glacial valleys.❤
Always interesting to see the rock layers at an angle - makes you wonder how they were formed, and deformed, to get to where they are now. It's amazing what strong forces shape our environment.
It is truly beautiful there!! The Atlantic Ocean is so magical! Thank you Slim for sharing.
Wow, I just don't know how you can top this video...but I know you will, you always do. It reminds me of sitting in the observation car on Amtrak's California Zephyr as it rolls up the canyons between Denver Colorado and Utah. Boat and train travel are so different from backpacking and hiking, but in a good way. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures.
Good morning, Slim.
Morning!
Fascinating geology. I love the way you take your time in filming the rocks!
You can really see the effects of the last Ice Age on Canada. So much rock showing and so many lakes.
Except for my time in the army, stationed at Ft Monroe Virginia, I’ve lived on the west coast in California. I wouldn’t mind spending time in the upper east coast of the states or in Canada. That side of North America looks great. Thanks for posting this 🙏🏻 Those of us who live in North America, are definitely blessed. 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽
Beautiful! Thank you! Safe journeys for you.
super nice vid sir - love the rocky beach, sunset and those awesome glacial valleys.
Thanks Slim. 😊
Have a cuppa? ☕️☕️
Loved the rocks. They are so beautiful. Natural mosaics. The music you chose to cross the fjords was mesmerizing. Excellent. 👍
Your films are always a delight, and just as good as any the CBC produces.
Thank you Slim for such an amazing trip. One that I see through your camera lens. Spectacular beauty 😘🙏❤️👍☕
Gros Morne and the fjords ... stunning, absolutely stunning!
Freakin Fan-tab-U-lus…fabulously filmed!
Too bad you had to hurry through that area. There's so much to see, if only sitting on a rock by the ocean and watching the waves. I can't wait to see all this with my own eyes! (Hopefully next summer). Great vid Slim, keep em coming.
We were through Lanse aux Meadows.. in early June. Yes we stopped at Arches provincial as well as Port aux Port. We stayed in Lomond as well. The day we were going to take the cruise, it was closed due to weather.
Yes the Tablelands were beautiful, but we continued on to Trout River and had a spectacular seafood dinner there.
Newfoundland beer: Yes, good 'ol Black Horse, but they also have a thriving craft beer industry.
Now I understand completely why you were rushing thru Newfoundland! Even without Fiona, we were constantly checking forecast to get thru Wreckhouse safely. We were in Maine, after returning from our 4week Newfoundland trip, when Fiona landed and were heartbroken at the devastation left, especially in Port aux Basque. I hope you get a chance to spend much more time in Newfoundland, especially to explore the rest of the island. We fell in love with it and want to return to see the icebergs and the explosion of humpbacks during capelin season. Oh...almost forgot to mention...there are birch trees *everywhere* in central NL.
This video is magnificent. It choked me up. The beauty of our country is undescribeable.
Absolutely amazing video slim! Thanks for taking us with you.
Some of the landscape reminds me of the foothills of Alberta, Montana and Wyoming.
Thanks Slim 😃
There use to be 3 arches there when I was a kid, 45 years ago :-). Great video and I love seeing the area I grew up in.
Beautiful scenery. Thank you for doing that for us to see.
I've watched a lot of your videos, but those Fjords really captured my soul. I can only imagine how bucolic they were in real-time.
Thanks for sharing!
What a suprise 5:30am. And slim. I love it
How to comment when all scenes were glorious? I was especially taken by Tablelands, where a moonscape had water running through it. Thank you for allowing us to share your travels, Slim. It's not quite as nice as being there, but it's as close to these locations as I'll ever get. Merci bien, monsieur.
Good morning from Florida. We enjoy your videos so much. Have a wonderful day. Blessings
Thanks for the Gros Morne tour...words just can't describe how awesome that place must be in person cause its pretty awe inspiring on film. Thank Slim.
Love how you make good content no matter if it's working on the hut or traveling :) Weekly highlight to see what youre up to!
That park is amazing. Not what I was expecting.
Great Videography Slim! Thanks for sharing. As usual, I appreciate you sharing. Goldie in Jacksonville Florida
Another great video Slim. We enjoy all your adventures. We also like to take the path less traveled. We also love to rock hound. We walk the shores of Lake Superior in search of Agates. Hope to see you in the Upper peninsula of Michigan someday.🍻
P.s. we have lots of birch.
Good morning from AZ. Just enjoying the cooler weather 😎. Great video. Thanks much 🙏 ☺️
Same here in Ahwatukee AZ, hello neighbor🤚
Love Arches Provincial Park. We stopped there way and down the Coast. Tablelands is otherworldly- maybe inner worldly.
I bought an Aliner, I'm thinking about making some inspired by Slim potato head videos.
Currently in Reno Nevada, I was trying to escape winter left Minnesota bit now it's cold here too. It snowed last night at got down to 19 degrees, I'm camping with no hook ups, boon docking, fortunately I had propane so I have heat!
Great production loved the south side! Certainly saved the best for last of this park
Most interesting and beautiful place I have seen in a long time.
What a great video! It's no surprise that I've heard it said that Newfoundland and Labrador are a geologist's dream! As a Newfoundlander, I'm glad to know that you enjoyed this leg of your journey, and I wish you continued safe and happy travels. "Long may your big jib draw!" 😊
Nice to see you pop some dates into your video, I've often wondered when they were actually filmed.
So very happy to see some familiar sights from Newfoundland from our long ago trip there. I’m glad you made the most of your western Newfoundland trip, Slim. A haven for rock lovers! We’re all waiting for the other shoe to drop to see how you made it off the island and home with Fiona bearing down! 😳
You’re absolutely right! Most times (certainly not all) wanderlust or dead reckoning can yield surprising yet satisfying results!
The 2hr hike thru the Tablelands goes beyond the boardwalk and to the farthest hill. Much more rugged as you are basically walking on rocks but you get an even closer experience of the beautiful geology. You really captured the gorgeous rocks so well...loved all the close ups, especially the serpentine ones. On your next trip, hope you get the chance to explore area on other side of the Tablelands toward Trout River, another wonderfully authentic small coastal town. We stayed at the NP campground of same name there and loved it. Much more secluded. If there, make a point to go to small picnic area, a spur off the dirt road to campground, for a spectacular view of backside of Tablelands and other mountains.
It’s absolutely stunning and you got it all to yourself💕💕💔
I have a feeling I know what part 7 will be about. That is a really beautiful area, I really need to get out that way.
The waterfalls you videoed during your excursion boat trip are SPECTACULAR, Slim! WOW!
Thank you Slim, very beautiful landscapes!
I’m a Newfie and proud of it. Newfie is not a bad word. Nice to see Newfoundland through your eyes. Great job
Oh nooooo! Cliff hanger!
And now my bucket list is longer. Thanks!
Now that sir, is boonbocking, well done. And yes, the scenery is beautiful, thanks.
So relaxing watching the waves smack the rocks. So peaceful. I really enjoyed tour. It was really nice. The campground looked inviting. Looking forward to the continuance of this. Have a good week.
What an AMAZING sunset. STAY SAFE!!
You go on so many wonderful trips with your camper. The boat ride at Gross Morne Park was lovely with it's mountains and waterfalls. Beautiful sunset there when you camped by the water. There's nothing like camping. I've camped for 30 years and would much rather be at a lovely wooded campsite than a motel. Will look forward to your next video!
When you were at the Tablelands, Green Gardens was the better hike. It brings you up and over the Tablelands and drops you to a hanging 'garden' above the St. Lawrence. And I'm happy you made it to Western Brook pond! Though I see there's been some major upgrades to the boats since we were there last in the very early 1990s. NF/L is a remarkable place!
Wow can't beat sunset, Thanks slim.
Breath taking beauty. I especially enjoyed seeing all of the faces in the cliff sides.🙏
Some of the most beautiful scenenry I have ever seen, thanks foro the great videogaphy and photography.
What a beautiful trip. Thank you very much.
I totally agree Slim I enjoy making my own path you never know what you may find along the way.
Jawdropping beautiful! Loved the waterfalls. Thank you for sharing.
another outstanding video. and such a beautiful place. Many thinks, Slim!!
That horizon is stunning!
I was in the the other N’s at the same time as you and escaped the day before Fiona hit. Spent the last night at Joggins Fossil beds where I was given special permission to stay the night. Being a rock/geologist I got to see Mother Earth in person as totally to myself was witness to a huge rock fall in the park. Thought of you as you traversed the granite basaltic intrusion of the first place looking closely for fossils. Then the piece de resistance was at Gros Morne seeing the serpentine. Next time back in Canada … and there will be a next time, I will definitely do Labrador and New Foundland.
LOVED THE DESIGNS OF THE ROCKS & BOULDERS TOO !
EGADS ,
It's breathtaking Slim !!
¡ Muchas Gracias !
Serpentine...looks like someone spent hours with a white marker doodling..LOL!!!!! BEAUTIFUL RIVER and scenery
