Take the time, listen to the lyrics, that is the art as much as the music is.

I see it like this... This was the late 1990s and he was tring something new, he was still searching for different forms of pop music and this album does just that. Once the 2000s came, he settled down and began making music resembling his older days. He was just trying to go with the trends, so I see this as an experiment but also as a great album for it's time. Kind of resembles The One as well.

I especially like how you can hear John Jorgenson at 3:45, whereas he was mixed out of the song on the album in favor of Guy Babylon's keyboards.

I wish I was there for this tour. Well, let's see, this tour was a compilation of the 90s for him: Simple life/ The one was sung; Believe/ Made in England; Something...Way you look tonight and others from Big Picture. All so wonderful, wish I was there. But the 2000s brought awesomeness to the table as well, I saw Captain and kid tour which saw that album, I want love, and believe in the setlist.

Holy Smokes! He actually played this live! I really like this song-- though I know a lot of people who aren't real fond of this song or its album. Yes, the production on Big Picture is too gauzy, but there are some really good songs on it.

I’ve always thought that The Big Picture is one of his best albums ever. An entire album of great songs, and all so different to each other.

A wonderful song indeed! It's really a shame we don't get to hear more of these rare gems live nowadays. Elton John still is a talented musician and songwriter. But in my estimation, in concert, he has regrettably tended to rely more and more on his well-known songs in the course of the past 18 years or so. The 60th birthday-show at MSG (2007) was a welcome exception. But sadly, this was a one-off concert only.
Today the long-term fans must thank God if Elton John dares to play one or two rarely performed songs every now and then. This is all the more upsetting since the man has released more than 35 studio albums plus a few soundtracks and musicals over the past four decades. There are literally hundreds of old and new songs that he has never or scarcely performed live (over the past years).
Even as a benevolent fan I must admit that I miss songs like "Indian Sunset", "Where to now, St Peter" or "Come down in Time", to name only three out of a plethora of songs that would deserve to be revived in concert more often or even for the first time. - Furthermore, in case Joe Average attends an EJ-concert these days, he could not necessarily know that Elton John still records new albums today, simply because the Rocket Man presents new songs only on very rare occasions. Even if a new EJ-single might no longer reach the top of the charts today, the new music does nevertheless have the potential to be represented in a current setlist just as much as loads of the unknown old stuff.
The fact of him mostly playing the same songs over and over again takes a lot of excitement out of his concerts. Not that songs like "Your Song", "Don't let the Sun go down on me" or "I'm still standing" are bad ones! They have become hits for a good reason! And I don't want to diminish Elton John's musical abilities! But part of the excitement of a live show is the question: "What is the star / the band going to play next?" Well, unfortunately, concerning an EJ-show this question is fairly easy to answer. Besides, doesn't it get boring for himself to play the same songs all over again each time.

I saw Elton John in Philadelphia on night 2 for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. He did play the usual songs. However he also played Indian Sunset (which I had never heard before.) He also played "I Want Love" off Songs From the West Coast. I don't think he's played that since the SFTWC tour. "All The Girls Love Alice" was also a surprise since I'd never heard that before either but he may have played that a couple of times before this tour.

On his interview with Graham Norton he said after he retires from regular touring, he wants to focus more on the underdog songs that he doesn’t get to play often.

@gnulinuxman Can't agree more! Especialy, TBP is probably to me his most favorite albums and it's really sad that many fans consider it to be one of his worst simply because of all wrong and stupid reasons.
