Remarkable. Not so long ago personal pictures of such historical value would have been lost to time. R.I.P. Private Polzin.

Elliott thanks for posting this... I saw myself in the .26 mark. Not me of course, but my father who passed away 3 weeks after I was born in 1963. He was the supply guy during his stay on Tinian. I also have a bunch of photos from his time there.

@@jelliottcunningham That's awesome. Great photographs, I was looking in curiosity myself and it was really exciting to see more pictures of others who served there. I was working on a video for my gram the past few weeks but it suddenly occurred to me, that there could be others too. lol Thanks very much, @Elliott Cunnigham, it's so neat to see these.

My father was Lamere T. Nekuda. He was in supply on Tinian Island. He was home on leave when the bomb was dropped. He was never ordered back. I wish so very much that I had questioned him about his time on the island. He rarely would talk about it. I appreciate the photos of where Dad was during this period of time.

Thank you for sharing this incredible history. My father was on Tinian and used to tell me about it. I recognized many features that he described in the photos.

Yes, he was my father-in-law and served on Tinian. Theses photos are from his personal collection. I put this up to share with family and have been amazed at how many have watched. It has also been wonderful to hear from others who had family that served there as well. Always appreciate the comments.

My dad was a Seabee on Tinian and did the surveying for the atomic bomb pits. I served at Anderson AFB, Guam, but never made it to Tinian to walk in his footsteps. It warms my heart to hear the Air Force is reopening the airfields on Tinian, at least to some extent.

My dad was also a Seabee on Tinian as well! Lied about his age and joined the Navy. We've got pics of him with his carbine and at that entertainment building. He never talked about it. I ended up doing the same as him and joined the Navy at 17 but with his permission in 1980. Cruised all around the Pacific on carriers and later flew off them as a Naval Aviator.
After 43 years of visiting and then flying all over the world a professional pilot, the only place that is on my "bucket list" to visit is just one place....and that's Tinian. I want to walk in my dad's footsteps. I want to see it, smell it and take it all in.

I served at NAS Agana but flew through Anderson. Nice place. GUAM has great people. My DAD was on the Alabama and I would think YOUR FATHER also did some work on Saipan during that battle in the month leading up to the taking of Tinian from JAPAN. CB's worked getting airfield ready during the final month of SAIPAN under extreme fire. Any pictures from that would be interesting. If he was doing PICTURES then the Pictures were all classified as during the final weeks of SAIPAN Battles a few small RECON planes photo graphed Tinian every day and twice a day. during the 14 days of BOMBING BOTH ARTILLERY and Airplane drops with the Naval guns as well. Of course the time lapse is over on the classification and any pictures would be of SIGNIFICANT historical value from Saipan?

Thank you for sharing. My grandmother, Edna (Dean) Millhouse, was stationed there as a nurse. Her rank was 1st Lieutenant. She hailed from West Virginia. I have her collection of photographs from her time as well. They're breathtaking! Do you mind if I borrow and republish in my blog the cartoon etched map by Sgt Bill Goggins of the island with all of the points of interest?

These are great photos. Those of you who want to visit Tinian to see it should go soon before the Dept. of the Navy shuts down all the historical sites. These photos should be scanned and sent to the AF museums and the history folks on Tinian, like the author and teacher, Don Farrell

Thank you for uploading these, an amazing group of photos. Was Mr. Polzin a photographer? The quality of the images is quite remarkable. My grandfather was stationed on Tinian in WWII, so these are a remarkable window into his world at that time. Would the family be agreeable to submitting these images to a historical website or perhaps wikimedia.org? These are by far the best visuals I have ever seen of Tinian from this period, and it would be well worth the effort to establish them in some lasting digital archive if that is possible.

Clifford Yapp thank you. I can check with my Brother in law and see if he is interested. Mr. Polzin was my father in law and served on Tinian in the metal works keeping the planes flying and patching them up. He made some spare money repairing watches and developing photos of his own and for others. Email me if you would like more information elliott@westgatemarketing.net

At the 2:12 and 5:28 marks is the same shot of 5 airmen. The person in the upper left appears to be my dad who was stationed on Tinian at the time, and was a B29 flight engineer. Who is the apparent subject of most photos, Leon Polzin?

Thanks for the reply. My dad's name was Berle C. Seery. He was a B29 flight engineer. I don't recall his rank or bomber group/squadron/wing. One person on his crew was someone I just knew as "Doc" Sayner when I was a kid, so that may be a helpful clue. Donald "Doc" Sayner was a professor at U of AZ some point after the war until his retirement. Thanks again.
