      y'all some of us just have pattern recognition.
      DMC V had mtx. It was a huge hubub. The game came out, they were less than inconsequential. Pretty sure they made no money off of it.
      RE4make got mtx. It was a huge hubub, since it was after the game came out. They were less than inconsequential. Pretty sure they made no money off of it and it became pretty clear they were corpo mandated.
      DD2...look, I don't need to continue this. Literally the only MTX that could have been argued to be prohibitive got patched so the item has 99x uses so you can just abuse the one you get in-game. And lookie that, 2 months later and no one cares anymore about it. Because the only people who did react to it are tourists and just got distracted by the newest worst thing (tm). Precision of fucking clockwork.

    If you played the game for 5 minutes the “why” would be because the executives said so. If what ended up becoming micro transactions was a team effort between designers and excecutives than they did an awful job because the game actively hurts your ability to need to buy any of them.

    • @brad1426

      Don’t you have to buy fast travel and character customization?
      Idk if people are aware of this but Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 just kinda let you do this shit with no additional fee.
      I also hate how people will say like “well if you played the game you’d know X”
      Yeah but I’m not playing it because I heard about the weird mtx for fast travel and character customization. I don’t even have that much of a hatred for MTX. I don’t love it but it just is what it is, I don’t take a hard stance. But I do take one when I’m going to be dealing with like, a developer hampering my ability to do basic things in the hopes that I’ll give up and just buy it.
      Idk, I guess overall for me, some things definitely shouldn’t be MTX, on a level that I would consider it being MTX in a game a deal breaker.

      @logicalcommenter4137 4 місяці тому

      @@brad1426 you don’t have to buy fast travel and character customization. It’s just odd that they give you the option to do so. In fact to put it into perspective, you know how people give out free samples of certain things at stores? Well imagine if you went up to one of them and out of nowhere they gave you so many full boxes of that product for free that you never need another in your entire life. Now imagine after that they told you that if you wanted to you could buy that product from them by the palm full and at an overpriced value. That’s weird and stupid but like you already have as much of the product as you will ever conceivably need so what are you gonna do?
      Let me put it another crazy way. say some guy walked up to you and just dumped 8 trillion dollars in your pocket and then told you, “for every dollar you ask to borrow from me from here on out, I will shoot somebody in the head”. Oh my god he is going to kill people that’s so crazy!!! But also if you ever try to borrow money from him you are an idiot.

      @chukyuniqul 3 місяці тому

      @@brad1426 because the point is-and this has been a pattern with recent capcom releases, just look at dmc v and RE4make-the mtx are less than inconsequential. I'm pretty sure you'd be better off spending your time "grinding" for them in-game than the time you'd need to invest in clicking the buttons needed to buy the microtransaction, and the price is a pittance, too. Token as token goes.
      Those of us who've been around and have two braincells to rub together noticed this pattern after RE4make, where it's clear MTX were corpo mandates so the designers just nodded, smiled and then sabotaged the living shit outta them.

  • @detroitsentai

    The reason why the conversation became about "the microtransactions arent that bad" is because many people who didnt play this or its prequel went out there and largely misrepresented what the MTX are, how they work and what they affect. This caused a reaction of people who actually played to respond with "they arent that bad" because they arent, they dont affect the game in any way. Also using the term "grind" here is funny because you dont even need to grind for any of the items in the game because they are so common, the mtx are clearly tacked on like many capcom game to appease some suits. It fucking sucks on all ends but i do wish when people talked about the mtx they talked about them more broadly in that they just suck that they exist rather than talk about what they do which is if youplay the game kinda nothing, they save you 30 minutes of standard gameplay that you cant even skip anyways so just ignore and dont buy them and actually play the game.

You really dont have any reason to pay for them during the main campaign. Then after the core game is done, the ammount of drops you get scale up so much i dont even seeing a use for whales to buy them. For example from killing one large monster i got 300+ RC. Ferrystones all over the place. Just looks to me like they were required to be there, but the developer made them useless in an attempt to maintain the integrity of their passion project as much as possible. Its just so laughably easy to get later on i dont see any way that they built them to actually make money.

    Not the first SP game to do it, obviously they target a game that's exactly not up their wheel house.
    But why are we okay with MP doing it? Don't pretend we aren't. Everyone is unhappy, but also buying them. But DD specifically is awful, but nobody cares that helldivers 2 does it, or RE4, or Oblivion.
    If we are to pretend it's about MTX purely, then putting arbitrary prices where its acceptable is weird, especially as these SP go on sale all the time. So is it okay when it costs 15 bucks in 2 years? Or if it's more multiplayer? Or does it need to be a sony game?
    Its cause we pretend that F2P "needs to make money", yet they don't make money selling to everyone, they make money milking every single user. But it's okay cause "we don't need to spend money", but that's not ok if we.. don't need to spend money also? Which is it?
    The issue is nobody are only targeting DD2 for it. Nobody gives a shit when it's games that aren't niche.
    I'm not defending mtxs. They will never go away unless legislated to go away. Capitalism will not prevent the exploitation of the gullible, autistic, disabled, and addicted people of the world.
    So it won't go away, doesn't mean we shouldn't critisize it. But why does nobody give a shit when other games do it? "That's bad too", but you didn't say anything. None of you did. Back in 2006, people joked about it, but nobody trashed bethesda. Cause people are fanboys of those trash games. That's all there is to it.
    So don't pretend to be morally against it.
    We can maybe suggest that this has a rallying cry, but all it is really is trashing one game. How do I know that? The response to every other example given is "that's bad too," that's not a criticism. That's a dismissal. Attack all games for it.

    Firstly let me say I have never bought any micro-transaction product in any game ever. (Over 30yrs of gaming)
    I agree the world and gaming space would be better without every inch and moment been monetised to hell.
    Unfortunately it’s never going to happen I can pay £15 for a cinema ticket and be forced to watch adverts
    I pay for subscription services that constantly try to fleece me with an upgrade or adverts or premiers
    So sadly it’s no different with the game space. Let hope we don’t have to watch 3mim of perfume or car adverts before I can play my favourite game. At least I can ignore store fronts

    Hot take but if you could make more money selling lemonade with ice cubes instead of not selling with ice cubes. You’d sell the drink with ice cubes let the idiots pay for easy items and go and enjoy the game

      Cold take. If ice cubes cost literally no money to add to your lemonade stand, and you don't think to include it as a full grown ass professional, you shouldn't sell lemonade or reevaluate your business.

    grow up and do research on how games are made. no every game dev team has the freedom to make all the decisions for their game.
