One of the best ram 1500 head unit how-to's ive come across so far i would keep the original title and simply add at the end of the title "FOR DUMMIES" lol its that thorough and easy
I was able to update the firmware after 20 or so attempts powering off and on with the head units power cable. My final attempt where I saw success was after driving around my block for a few minutes then parking and trying again without powering off. I’m unsure if that’s the trick but it started working and then I followed the remaining steps provided in the video. Also, the rear view camera works perfectly for my truck which used the same pin out mentioned.
I just want to mention to everyone that mine just arrived today. I bought it two weeks ago and it was scheduled to arrive 10 days later than now. I live in the east coast so if this is your situation, don’t be surprised if it arrive early.
Thanks for the video and info! I’ve been looking to replace the stock unit in my 2015 Ram 1500 and have not been able to find any decent plug-n-play options. Just ordered this one 🤙🏼
Dude...I was digging and digging for something like this, tried a couple of 'portable' units that were total trash. I ended up returning both and just bit the bullet and gave the Amazon version of this unit a shot. It does not disappoint! I was able to install it over lunch even with the lack of instructions in the instruction manual! I still have to hack into the wiring harness on the side of the dash to get my backup cam out of the mirror and into this display, but it automatically recognizes when I'm in reverse and switches to the rear cam input and also the supplied canbus adapter manages to keep the Park Sense beeps, though not the same sounds as factory I did not have to order extra harnesses from Crutchfield. At this point I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 simply due to the meh plastic quality of the bezel....DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS.
I ordered the same exact one.. now they have the Video out already pinned into the harness to those brown wires... you also has a Video input wire going to the head unit with 2 blue non stripped wires sticking out.... thats where you can now plug in the rear camera without splicing, the 2 blue wires is the antennas for the wifi... so now the C1 is totally plug & play... I just hate the picture quality but it works for hooking up my camper
I’m requesting that you make a quick video covering the wiring on your head unit. Pretty sure I wired everything correct, getting a total black screen. Would clear up a lot of confusion for a lot of people based off the comments. Thanks
Leeocar brand is pretty good. Ans its an 8 core. Its pretty much plug and play. I have a 2018 ram1500 tradesman with just basic radio and rear view back up cam. If you wanna use existing camera the wires are in the side of dash remove the panel passenger side. Green wire orange stipe is negative and geeen brown wire is positive the inner wire in rca cable. I like the included micro usb hook up all my usb are working.
Hello, so you cut the factory wires and wired them into the radio for the rear view camera so now it no longer displays the camera in the rear view mirror??
I bought the C1 Model and for the price its OK. Unfortunately the kit didn't come with the right screws to attach the screen to the support, so I have used the original screws from the truck and two studs behind the screen case simply broke. I had to glue it again with gorilla glue. The cable that's connect to the original USB cable it's horrible and I have to use some electrical tape to keep it together. However a few things I believe the fixed. We don't need to splice the original wires in order to have the backup camera working properly. It comes with the right cable to connect to the back of the unit. In general it's a OK product FOR THE PRICE!
This video is awesome! Can you tell me or go into detail about where the RCAs in the back connect to each other (apart from the RCA for the back up camera). It's a tad confusing. Also, do you have any advice for why the volume up and down (and all the buttons) on the left had edge of the screen aren't working? Lastly, I can't seem to get the can bus upgrade to go through. I follow all the prompts and hit the last confirm but it just idles on the start screen. And advice?
The newer model you do not have to do anything for the backup to work, it comes with a av cable that connects to the av cable for cam direct from the wire harness
Hey man. Great review! I just got one of these style units for my Ram. I saw a comment that says it won't use the factory mic for phone calls. Where did you put the mic that's included at? It's quite large and ugly, not really wanting it to be somewhere completely visible. Thanks.
Man I forgot where I put it since I sold the truck. Wherever it was, it sucked. The aftermarket mic was terrible from day 1. I’d suggest getting a new mic and using that and looking online for places to hide it.
Ordered the radio two weeks ago. Got it Friday. Installed it this morning. All Plug and play. I'm assuming they added the a software u[upgrade since this video was posted. All works fine. You will need to tweak the setting a bit. Didn't have to splice the wires for the back up camera. All Works so far. AM radio a bit week. But seems fine. Ill update in month or so Update: All is well. I installed the steering wheel voluminous buttons. wasn't hard. Worked correctly and I didn't need to edit in the radio at all. Thanks again @socalexpeditions
@@BigBlue579 I just plugged in as it came. I have a feeling that not models are the same actual stereo. I thought i was going to have to splice into the wires like the video. I tried it w/o splicing and it works fine. I could be a setup in the actual unit as well.
So I had the old stereo that didn't display anything but the radio. Also had the reverse camera display in the rearview mirror. I got the info on getting the oem camera to work so thanks. I'm am however having issues with the weather temp being displayed as C instead of F in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I'm not sure where the information is coming from, but no matter what I do in the radio I can't change it. Have you figured this out or had this issue?
*** Update 9/4/2023: Worked perfectly for 3 months, then just stopped booting up. *** Thanks for a great review. I just ordered one of these based on your video. I had an S100 plug and play in my 2015 Ram 1500 Express. It was OK (expensive... $400) but the sound was poor and it stopped working after 2 years. This looks like a better option and you can't beat the price. Hope it lasts. Did you use the internal or external Microphone?
I upgraded to the same unit in my 2018 RAM 1500. I also installed the external mic you recommended. I like it, but people I talk with on the phone say they hear an echo and they don't hear me very well, which is annoying. Any solution for that? Since I don't have steering wheel controls for my audio system, I have not done the firmware update, but it seems to be working fine.
Great video! Are you able to maintain connection to the head unit through the USB in the arm rest storage? Curious if that will still work and be function.
That's a bummer...... I wonder if there's a way to splice the connector cluster in the arm rest to a USB out cable that they supply. @@socalexpeditions
Great video!!! Your RCA cable. Did you buy that somewhere? Or did you use a random 1 and cut it open? I did that with a random domain RCA cable I have and the 2 wires inside look a lot thinner than yours.
Thank you. I did and just purchased it. How about setting the default screen? Every time I start my truck it goes to Navi. Not the home screen. That does bother me. Thanks again and great content.
I actually ended up desoldering the speaker in the canbox module so I’m unsure but I’m liking the head unit, definitely a good purchase, still playing with settings and customization. Wireless CarPlay is awesome
Your video was great. On this unit you don`t have GPS. And did you check into the Andriod 12 carplay with GPS , trying to see which one I want for my 2018 Ram 1500 SLT.
Did you have to buy anything else to get it to mount into the dash? Or did it mount with just the stuff that came with it? I appreciate if your able to answer good vid buddy.
amazing video i am looking to buy this same one. I noticed you said with android youtube and netflix will work. Will netflix not work with an iphone connected?
I’m seeing mixed reviews in the oem reverse cam needing to be spliced in. Do you know if there is multiple ways to do this? If not I believe I have the same set up as you where I need to splice. Where did you get the info on the pins to splice into?
You have to buy in aftermarket one, it’s plug in play do look for something with same plug. He had a good link to one in a video he made, not sure which video
Hey man, again great writeups! I just received this unit and for the most part its great, but i do have couple questions, hopefully you can help me with. 1. Did you get both 6pin and 4pin usb connectors working? My 6-pin usb connector works just fine, but i'm using that for front dash cam dvr, so cant use it for anything else, in which case i was hoping to use the 4pin connector, to be able to connect my iphone in, or have it be available for firmware updates. However i cant get it working. First i used the included mini-usb 4pin cable to connect it factory wiring (im assuming thats why they included it), so i can just use the stock usb connector on the usb hub, thats in the center console, but it doesnt work. Tried the second usbA cable they provided, so i can just connect directly into it, bypassing factory usb wirking, but it also doesnt seem to be working. Does yours work? 2. Have you figured out how to factory reset the unit? The pinhole button on the front, doesnt reset it, but only reboots it. 3. is there an easier way to get out of the carplay mode (not just out of the carplay screen)? It looks like once carplay is connected and BT is dedicated to carplay only, there is no easy way to switch BT back out of carplay and to the units BT app. The only way i found it to manually enable the wifi, which will kick the BT out of carplay. 4. And finally do you by chance have the instructions for this unit? They didnt provide any, and i dont think i really need them, but would still be nice to look over. Thanks!
Ever figure this out? I have similar questions. I thought I'd be able to use the mini-usb connector to the factory wiring for carplay, but none of them work. Assuming I'll have to run the 2 USB connectors...but to where? There's a factory USB port on the dash, I was thinking of trying to replace that with one of the supplied USBA cables.
Can you show on your unit we're all the plugs go...please I'm 62 and like the unit. Just don't want to screw up the plugs in back of the radio. Also which USB cable you can use to wifi, the other for USB memory stick. Also you the factory USB and the Avx work in the arm console. Or do you need aftermarket board for the USB and the avx to work. Which I have. Ram 1500 2014 truck.
My unit has worked well for about a year but now every time I turn the truck off and restart it the time and date reverts to May 18, 2023 and 9:40pm. It also will not connect to Bluetooth. Any ideas?
I got the $260 model. I should have got the one you have because I can’t find the update and can’t find the make and model screen for my steering wheel controls. But everything else works mint. Just trying to figure out the back up camera now. Is there a way to make the volume buttons light up? It’s hard to see them at night! Thanks for all your help
You need to select the canbus model. That way it can read the bcm and know when the trucks headlights are on to shift over into night mode. The SWC and backup camera should work after you select that
@@socalexpeditions I got the lights to show when headlights turn on just figured that out. I tried the code you gave for the factory password but nothing happens. Still no luck trying to get the steering wheel volume buttons working. Any advice? And my backup camera, the one that came factory, do I use the 2 brown wires and use those to splice into the pin 31 and 32? My unit didn’t come with the rca cable. And if that’s what I need, I’ll order it, but where do I plug it in? Thanks again for your help.
I found your video when looking for how to hook up the OEM backup camera on a ram 1500. It was very helpful for finding the correct wires in the OEM harness, and I hooked mine up the same way you did. (My android is a little different version than yours). Where/how did you plug in the RCA cable you spliced in? I plugged mine into the yellow jack labeled "camera" (the one that has the short WiFi antennas on it). But I must be missing something, because when I go into reverse, some guide lines appear, but there is no video. So where does the RCA jack from line 31 and line 32 plug into, and did you have to run any additional lines to it?
That camera pin from the main harness is for a front camera. There should be a separate cable that is included, a yellow female rca cable for you to plug into the headunit. Thats where the splice rca goes
@@socalexpeditions Thanks for the reply! That is the one I am using (the separate cable input) but still no video. When putting the truck in reverse there are only the built-in guide lines and a black screen. Should there be any power connections to the OEM camera (such as is shown with third party cameras)? All I have hooked up to the OEM camera is line 31 and 32 going to the single rca cable input.
@@jim6425 Nope that’s all. Did the rear view camera always show on the headunit before? Did you double check your splice to see if it made contact through the wire shield
@@socalexpeditions Ok then, I thought I might have left something out. The android head unit replaced the uConnect 5 that died. The reverse always worked on the uConnect, even after everything else stopped working. I appreciate your help and it sounds like I have it wired like yours. Must be something else.
Thanks for the video man, one question that would help me a ton is I can’t get the backlights for the buttons (volume, power, home etc) to stay on, where do you navigate in settings to keep them on?
Its the yellow RCA that has the 2 small blue wires, you plug that into the stereo then the OUT yellow RCA to the IN yellow RCA Video from the harness... the 2 blue wires is the wifi antennas dont cut them...... Dont plug it into the AuUX video the camera will only work on AUX
I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Express been searching for year for a review u like this. My question is can I hooked with an aftermarket backup camera ? Because my truck does not come with it. How is sound quality and GPS ? Thank you will save me hundreds of bucks. I do appreciate it
Hey brotha. I was wondering if you have any troubleshooting on the car play? It’s not connecting anymore. Wired it’ll say it’s connecting and then the charger will loose connection and then regain connection and so on. As far as the wireless, Bluetooth works and will play music but it’ll never connect to CarPlay. Any tips?
Remember the days when you had one button or knob to take care of anything? Why does my vehicle have 6 different ways to turn on the heat? A lot of bells, whistle, smoke and mirrors.
Just bought this unit and I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality of it. I know you've probably answered this question a thousand times, but I cannot get the USB cables to work. Also, do you know if there is a way to have the RAM logo displayed on the unit? Thanks
the USB cables included? i used one of the two, plugged into the back of the headunit and works no problem. You can upload photos to a usb drive, then plug it into the usb, go to gallery, find the picture on the usb drive, and hold down on it to change the wallpaper
Hey, so I purchased and installed the c1 and my issue is Bluetooth and wired connection dropping. It can work for the whole drive or drop several times throughout the drive. Any ideas of what’s wrong? I did not download what you recommended but I don’t think that would be the fix
TYVM, I bought and installed a ATOTO S8 Pro gen 2 and I cannot get the factory backup camera to work. I will try this splicing method. I have purchased Fakra cables but I do not think the rear camera is running through either of these from the factory. Thank you again.
Quick question, how bad is the glare during the sun? Can still the screen and all? And does it dim with the headlights? Or just always super bright at night?
No glare in the sun to be honest, not that I have noticed. It is BRIGHT in the day. And it does dim, but even at the lowest brightness setting sometimes I can find it to be a bit bright.
I’m curious now. I don’t use SiriusXM anymore, don’t really use navigation anymore either and would love CarPlay. I have the 8.4” UConnect, will the unit you reviewed work with my truck?
I’m not entirely sure, as long as the dash piece lines up. Contact the seller on Alibaba and verify that it will work. I only have experience with the 5” headunit.
I came across your video and decided to order one for my Ram 2500. Are you aware of any aftermarket reverse cameras that will work with this unit? My truck didn't come with a factory camera, so I plan to add one.
How do I connect the steering wheel with the aftermarket backup camera and the android head unit so that it moves the lines of the camera when the steering wheel turns?
Were you able to connect multiple cameras to the head unit? Also I upgraded the microphone but people are saying it is hard to hear me although I can hear them fine. Any work around in settings for that?
I was very excited to replace my 8.4 Uconnect that is giving me grief. I ordered the radio, went to put it in and discovered that I have a different dash configuration. The three knobs I have are not in a line and also have aditional buttons in the area...uggg. Now I guess I will see how their return policy is.
I had the exact same issue. The will not refund. On the bright side I believe I fixed my 8.4 . In my mind there had to ba some sort of battery inside the radio to keep the CMOS alive, I was wrong, there is not. However when I took it apart I think by reseeting the display and other parts it stopped the glitching. I have not had any issues since,.... going on 3 weeks now. BEWARE dealing with aliexpress. See my other post. Let us know if you received a refund.
Did it also come with a backup camera? If so can you use the factory camera as you stated and use the camera it came with for a cargo or front camera so you have two?
That is an excellent idea. I was honestly just thinking about how you could use the camera it comes with, I was thinking forward facing but I am not sure why I would really need that. A cargo camera makes much more sense. One option comes with a 360* camera but Im sure it would need to be mounted on the top of the cab and I am not crazy about that idea.
@@talontsi92 I’ll have to watch a video and give it a try. I could really use a under the seat sub. Not much room in my regular cab. Maybe a future video will cover that!
I’ve tried multiple times to locate the head unit you described and can’t find it. I find the Tesla’s style radio but nothing like what you show in your video. If you could please post exact part numbers or exact names, or some kind of exacting information that could lead us to what you have, that would be fantastic.
Mine works great thanks! Only issue I am having is the USB in the carpet mentions next to the driver seat stopped working. Any ideas why that would have happened?
Hey, thanks for the great Video. I was wondering if the climate control works on the head unit? I have a bighorn 2016 Ram. It has duel auto A/C. I Will lose the physical buttons if I put this trim piece in. So I want to make sure I have access to that feature.
@@socalexpeditions thanks for getting back to me. It probably becomes a little tedious responding all the time :-) but I couldn't find any information from the manufacturer. Thanks and appreciate the video but especially the response.
Does SiriusXM work? Also you said the audio isn’t great? Does the sun still work? I have the upgraded alpine system. I’m extremely interested in upgrading, I hate not having CarPlay.
I just installed this yesterday. Got most everything working. Where did everyone run the USB ports? Were you able to swap out the existing USB port on the dash?
@@socalexpeditions thanks! I did the same and it works great. Still can't get the backup camera working. I have an OEM camera that used to be in the headunit (not the rearview). Do you know which RCA I need to plug in for that??
@@jmarg76 You just need to splice in. In the video I showed where to splice. The connection goes to a single yellow RCA cable that is not apart of any harness. the yellow RCA has its own little connection spot in the harness.
I just got this head unit and I'm not the brightest when it comes to understanding splicing. Those pinout connectors that you have, would it be the same if you just cut the wire and splice them all together or do they need to be that special connector?
For the backup camera? First try putting in your car model and see if the backup camera works. Many have said the backup camera works out of the box now. But to answer your question, no, you don’t want to splice them together. You’ll want individual lines spliced in. I wouldn’t cut anything - Just tap into the wire.
Going based off of the video, to use your factory camera you need an RCA splice on the positive and negative wire going to the camera. I ordered this head unit and the cable he has linked in the description. I will update you on ehow verything goes.
I see you spliced the connection for the oem back up camera but it is a male plug the harness I received has a male plug also, what did you plug in into
I have the auto ac version, do you know if I can control the setting through the screen ? I haven’t figured it out yet. Mainly want to know because the 8.4 oem screen I was able to select max ac and direct the heat it to my liking. I hope it has this capability.
Try selecting different car models on the canbus selection to see if any offer the on-screen ac controls. You should still stay under the same hiworld canbus selection.
i installed this and was hoping it would use the factory microphone. do you know if this is possible or do i have to use the one that came with the head unit. its terrible.
You guys better be careful buying them radios My friend bought one on Amazon for a 2018 Dodge ram 1500 and mm radio burnt up wires had melted on harness.
I purchased a similar radio from Amazon. Is there a way to move apps around? I found the a/c controls but they are on the last page of apps. I originally had the 8.4 screen but no CarPlay.
Thanks man I’ll try that tomorrow. I’ve got to pull it back out. I wasn’t sure which was the radio antenna. Tried all 3 and they all had poor reception but I was in my metal shop.
Will factory phone and voice controls are steering wheel work with it? Also will the mics work or can u tap into the factory ones like the camera? Have and 18 1500 that has the mic in the headliner.
@@steveyoung5520 You can answer a phone call and end it with the phone button. But I just use my phone to initiate a call. I haven’t tried using the phone button to initiate a call yet.
Not sure if you already answered this, but can you wire it into the factory console usb so you don’t have to route a female usb port through the little cubby hole?
Negative. But I would just instead use wireless CarPlay, charge off the factory usb in the center console, and install the provided usb in that cubby hole so you can upload stuff to it or have the option of wired CarPlay or another phone charger.

Awesome video. Couple questions. Will it auto dim with lights and can I sync. Two phones at once. Work and a personal to take calls?
This video is awesome! Can you tell me or go into detail about where the RCAs in the back connect to each other (apart from the RCA for the back up camera). It's a tad confusing. Also, do you have any advice for why the volume up and down (and all the buttons) on the left had edge of the screen aren't working? Lastly, I can't seem to get the can bus upgrade to go through. I follow all the prompts and hit the last confirm but it just idles on the start screen. And advice?
Same probleme. Have you solution?
Did you make a video on How to connect the backup camera to the original wiring harness on the back of the truck?
Ordered the radio two weeks ago. Got it Friday. Installed it this morning. All Plug and play. I'm assuming they added the a software u[upgrade since this video was posted. All works fine. You will need to tweak the setting a bit. Didn't have to splice the wires for the back up camera. All Works so far. AM radio a bit week. But seems fine. Ill update in month or so
Update: All is well. I installed the steering wheel voluminous buttons. wasn't hard. Worked correctly and I didn't need to edit in the radio at all. Thanks again @socalexpeditions
They might have tweaked it now! I shared a ton of info with them on things to fix.
@@socalexpeditions Then they did what you said. Thank you!!!!
How did you plug the camera in then? I can’t get mine to work
@@BigBlue579 I just plugged in as it came. I have a feeling that not models are the same actual stereo. I thought i was going to have to splice into the wires like the video. I tried it w/o splicing and it works fine. I could be a setup in the actual unit as well.
@@kingtchr1 I'm not sure what you mean by "I just plugged it in as it came". Can you elaborate?
So I had the old stereo that didn't display anything but the radio. Also had the reverse camera display in the rearview mirror. I got the info on getting the oem camera to work so thanks. I'm am however having issues with the weather temp being displayed as C instead of F in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I'm not sure where the information is coming from, but no matter what I do in the radio I can't change it. Have you figured this out or had this issue?
The genius thing about these is they come with everything you need in the kit. The price makes it seem too good to be true
External. It’s recommend picking up a better microphone off Amazon
How do you like the unit ?
I upgraded to the same unit in my 2018 RAM 1500. I also installed the external mic you recommended. I like it, but people I talk with on the phone say they hear an echo and they don't hear me very well, which is annoying. Any solution for that? Since I don't have steering wheel controls for my audio system, I have not done the firmware update, but it seems to be working fine.
Immediate thumbs up for the mustache
Great video! Are you able to maintain connection to the head unit through the USB in the arm rest storage? Curious if that will still work and be function.
Negative, that wont work anymore with the headunit.

Great video, do you have issue w echo on phone calls? Truck side sounds great, caller side has terrible echo, I used the ext mic they sent w unit.
Yup, the headunit sucks for phone calls!!

Anything will work with a hot spot
Do you have any idea where a guy can get installation instructions? I got my radio a couple of days ago and there were no instructions in the box.

How does Netflix and UA-cam work, do you need WiFi or hotspot? Or it should work automatically with phone connected to car play?
Ya, working well so far
Can you show on your unit we're all the plugs go...please I'm 62 and like the unit. Just don't want to screw up the plugs in back of the radio. Also which USB cable you can use to wifi, the other for USB memory stick. Also you the factory USB and the Avx work in the arm console. Or do you need aftermarket board for the USB and the avx to work. Which I have.

great video! does the stock microphone work for calls?
No, it includes a new one

Thanks for the video man, one question that would help me a ton is I can’t get the backlights for the buttons (volume, power, home etc) to stay on, where do you navigate in settings to keep them on?
They only stay on when your headlights turn on.
Go to car settings, general, scroll down to “Illumine Detect” and turn it off. That worked for me and the lights should stay on now.👍🏽
good video! question is the aux and usb in the glove box in the third seat still working? do we have to intervene?
Nope, it wont work for CarPlay.
Was your RCA splice (for OEM backup camera) provided with the stereo and where did you plug the RCA into? I don't see a connection on the radio for it
I’m having the same problem. Someone have a solution on where to plug in the RCA from OE wires?
Its the yellow RCA that has the 2 small blue wires, you plug that into the stereo then the OUT yellow RCA to the IN yellow RCA Video from the harness... the 2 blue wires is the wifi antennas dont cut them...... Dont plug it into the AuUX video the camera will only work on AUX

Quick question, how bad is the glare during the sun? Can still the screen and all? And does it dim with the headlights? Or just always super bright at night?

How do I connect the steering wheel with the aftermarket backup camera and the android head unit so that it moves the lines of the camera when the steering wheel turns?
Were you able to connect multiple cameras to the head unit? Also I upgraded the microphone but people are saying it is hard to hear me although I can hear them fine. Any work around in settings for that?
I didn’t try connecting a front cam to this unit. The mic is so bad that it comes with - I recommend an aftermarket one.
Yes it did! And yes, I believe you can.
