As an Ex-offender I know when someone is lying, Raising a child and working as an officer that looks after the vulnerable people is not a joke but Priti Patel seems like this is a joke, therefore my respect goes out to the officer and all other officers that works hard and honestly.

How years of gaslighting the population works - Tories like Patel can smugly dismiss every question about stagnant wages and the rising cost of living, knowing that working people will just argue among themselves over who has it worse.

Most of the working population live on £1200 or less . I know a lady that works a full week for the NHS and after stoppages she picks up less than £1000 . It isn't right that the working population are being told to get second jobs to survive. There was a country not so far back in history that starved its people and were condemned for it . It should pay to work, it’s soul destroying knowing that people limit their hours because it will affect their benefits when others are working full time and subsidising them. They should be for helping people physically of mentally unable to work...or for other qualifying reasons. I don't expect someone with a disability which completely disables them from working any job to live in poverty.. but your general jobseekers and regular benefit claimers should not be earning anything more than the point of a safe and suitable living standard. I know people on benefits who have a new car every 3 or 4 years.. and foreign holidays every summer amongst regular trips to theme parks and allsorts of other stuff. 5 kids. Both on benefits. That's what people are getting tired of. I paid £650 for emergency dental work during covid because there was no alternative...had to go private. Don't even want to know what I would have been charged had I flashed a benefit card. Certainly not £650. 5am up and out to work every morning in rain, sleet, hail, snow and heatwaves.. and home if I'm lucky for 6pm every night. How is £2300 a month not enough? I live in South Devon where we have some of the lowest wages and highest house prices - a mortgage on a 3 bedroom house with bill is £1000 max. Fuel at the moment is about £70 a month for me personally and food is £240 a month for 2 adults and a dog. That would leave £1000 for savings.
Doesn’t quite add up to me.

That's taking the piss some mcdonalds workers work there for 20 years like she has. And lidl? Then work for lidl then! Lidl actually pay quite high compared to other supermarkets, even in highely regarded departments like IT

    • @ninjaninja9954
      @ninjaninja9954 2 роки тому

@Walter Palmer Actually that is true. If burger flippers get paid £10 or £11 that's still about £1700 a month which is £400 more. It feels to me she just making it public she wants a pay rise but i know the police and they don't pay high because you don't have to be highly qualified to join the police, most don't even have degrees. I know a friend that works for the police for like almost 20 years and he is only on like 30ks in pay i think it was like 37 or something and this was all before the inflation issues. Not putting down the police but she is trying to say she is much better than a mcdonalds or lidls worker so she should get paid more

Honestly, if an accountant isn’t able to find a way how 1 adult and 1 child can survive on over £2000 a month, she needs a new accountant and should also get them reported and fired.
This is more than enough to survive, and it’s clearly an issue with her spending. No matter how much more money she was given she would likely be in the same spot. “Couple 100 more than people in McDonald’s” 1. What’s wrong with people working in McDonald’s. 2. McDonald’s has good pay / benefits. 3. You’re literally sitting on over double minimum wage.

She’s merely pointing out that working in a fast food restaurant pays almost the same as working as a detective in one of the most pressured and high risk environment you can work in. Her job carries a significant amount of risk, a high workload, significant pressure yet the compensation is equivalent to that of someone who has significantly less responsibility placed upon them? How is that right? In terms of her personal circumstances, you have no idea what they are so you can’t claim she has enough money to live on. £2k a month to deal with abused adults and kids and the people who abuse them is a laughable amount of money. Making insulting comments about people working in McDonalds does nothing to advance an argument about someone’s personal circumstances.
When I was young we had a progressive Prime Minister, who turned the economics of Britain around. She thought people that nothing is a given in life. And you and only you are responsible for your outcomes.
Looks like some of those lessons are lost and the begging bowl is making a return.

I understand what you’re saying, but I think the woman’s angle is:
      A) not to denigrate McDonald’s workers but to point out that she is earning an equivalent wage while working a skilled profession she had to study and qualify for, whereas McDonald’s workers need often no prior experience or training,
      B) society is not becoming a “begging bowl”, the cost of living has soared astronomically since those times, (and not just due to inflation but in real-terms), and she is asking how a full time working mother cannot afford to feed her family- do you really believe she is spending luxuriously while asking her mother to help feed her kids and fuel her car?
      C) she is directing this question to Priti Patel since she is the minister ultimately responsible for the Police force that she’s employed for, and it’s only right that she is answerable to the employees for which she sets an example
      D) The government can, should, has the power and does just “give more cash to particular organisations” - the primary and most important function of our (and any) government is to fund the state institutions that keep our lives ticking over- health service, defence, infrastructure and policing, for example. Now, I’ve voted Conservative, Labour, Liveral Democrat, Green and all over in my life, so coming from a non-partisan standpoint, Priti Patel is one of the most unfocused, economically wasteful and woefully inept politicians the cabinet has seen in many years. And if you don’t believe me, believe Conservative grassroots and party members: she ranks consistently as the most disliked and and unpopular cabinet minister currently in government. Her reputation is dire. She has no core values, she blows whichever way the wind does, she is a highly reactionary, headline hunting power grabber who shows fealty only to whomever can give her the chance to further her own career. Case in point: the woman has spent £120 million on the Rwanda deal, and taking ethics out of the equation, I think that says it all: a terrible amount of money to hand the first 3rd world country that agrees, before even one single aslylum seeker has been deported (and still hasn’t…). Indeed, i think most would agree, this money might have been better spent on more economically conservative and more proven methods of stemming immigration. Like, for instance, funding the wages of police officers and border forces. 🤷🏼

      A)
What she said does denegrate other workers in other jobs. You cannot compare jobs in this manner. She is comparing Apples with Oranges. Not least because she works for, and is funded by the state. McDonalds is private sector. They can do choose to set the rate dependant on their business model and the market rate. Oh n the public sector there is no market. Pay is often less than the private sector. But that is compensated by far better conditions of employment and most definitely the best pensions available anywhere.
In the private sector there is no such thing as being under paid or over paid. You are paid the rate the market dictates.
This is why, for example, people who suggest Footballers are overpaid, clearly haven’t a clue about market economics and individual value within that market. To suggest anyone can be “overpaid” is ridiculous.

      B) I’m afraid given the evidence provided by my Wife from an inner city school. Child welfare comes 2nd maybe 3rd in the 21st Century. As parents see it as their right to posses the latest mobile phone. Have the big Sky tv package and all the cosmetic treatments they desire. Shocking but true.

      D) at certain economic points . The Government cannot afford to give money to the public sector. These, are those times. To demand pay without any measure of value or performance is what shattered public owned industries in the 1970’s
The last Dinosaur of that era remains in the shape of the NHS. The bottomless pit of miss managed chaos and poor performance.

** I’m no fan of Politicians and in general. Most of the decision making is self serving and short sites. Priti Patel has a record of twisting and turning depending which way the prevailing wind blows!
From memory through, she pales into insignificance compared to the mess the last Labour Government left us in. They themselves admitted that they’d emptied the treasury.
For the public sector to demand pay over everybody else must be accompanied by some form of transparency about how and where they spend MY money.
Back to the lady in question. She chose public service. There was always a limit to the salary. Use your “professional” skills and run a Ford dealership etc. Then there is the financial reward for applying yourself in the private sector.
But NEVER compare yourself to people in other jobs unless your willing to change places with them.
At the end of the day she chose the career path. It really isn’t the taxpayers fault.
