I have, they're normal people who would quite like to work, or study if they're younger - usually exactly what they were doing at home until some idiot or other ruined things. It's the government's refusal to just process their asylum applications in a timely fashion that forces them to be "freeloaders". Even people who've asked to go home are having to wait months. But I bet some wealthy Tory-donating hoteliers are loving all that guaranteed cash during an economic downturn.

This is highly reminiscent of Enoch Powell's infamous 'Rivers Of Blood' speech back in 1968. The difference there was that shortly afterwards Powell was sacked and the whip withdrawn from him by Edward Heath. Sadly, no such thing has happened nor is likely to happen under Sunak.

@@paulroberts7544 My first cut would be to work out those who were benefitting from their own past migration but would openly deny those benefits to others in the same or harder positions. (There are other evils going on I am sure but seeing as they affect all others and are being so blatant about it, those would be my easiest and therefore first choice.)

Being manipulated into believing there is a problem that needs a pragmatic solution , is not proof that the pragmatism is needed.
Processing claims and deporting 14k a year as labour were doing, the rest being able to work pay tax and contribute to the economy, seems far more pragmatic than deliberately causing a backlog, so they can be held to fester in hotels, all in a highly visible manner, designed to alarm local populations, thus manufacturing the acceptance of her 'pragmatic' approach.
