    I've always been the guy who weeds and feeds, then wondet why my lawn looks like crap. I'm retired now, and my son has a new house. I have a lot of time to figure out how it all works.
    The things I saw in this video, some I knew. My biggest problem? I learned something. The best thing, for me, not wasting a lot if retirement money doing stuff that never fixes my lawn.
    I am kind of new. My son is certainly, new. I can be comfortable knowing a lot of things I did were right. But, what I liked most, I learned things I was doing wrong.

      There's no right answer with this. Mulching will leave clippings that will supply micronutrients and nitrogen to the soil, but if you don't like the way if looks you can always bag. I would say do what you feel comfortable with.

      @@LAWNLIFE You bet! I actually made my wife watch it as well, she paused it multiple times to take notes. It answered a lot of our questions we have had as beginners. I haven't dug through your back-log of videos to see if you have covered it yet, only recently stumbled on your subscription, but our next voyage is to figure out the differences in fertilizers, it is overwhelming right now. What, when, how much to use.

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому

      @@mattnelson1366 that is awesome to hear! I'm really glad I am helping you guys out!
      As far as fertilizers go, I have a video but it's more advanced. For your guys case, it really depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. If you truly want to get very serious about lawn care, I would suggest getting a soil test and seeing what nutrients you are lacking in vs. what you may already be abundant in.
      If you want to go the easy route, Scotts has a 4 step program that is pretty easy to follow by following the directions on the bag. Same with Milorganite or any other fertilizer out there.
      Fertilizer is fertilizer for the most part. Sure, there might be different small additives to the fert like iron (to get your grass darker) and stuff like that. But the big thing they're selling is the Nitrogen. And nitrogen is just nitrogen. There's not a better nitrogen than another, if that makes sense.
      I know it can be overwhelming with all the different brands and kinds, but just think of them as basically the same thing and try to find the best price for how much square footage it covers. The numbers on the front of the bag don't matter that much, it's really how much square footage you can cover per dollar amount.
      I hope this is a good starting spot for you guys. I could sit here and write you a book if I had the time. Lol.

    I don't know if he mentioned it or not, but these steps are geared towards "Cool Season Grasses". Well, steps 1,2, and somewhat 4 are the same for both warm and cool season grasses, but the step 3 fertilizing for warm season grasses is about the opposite of whats described. Let's say you have bermuda you would want to spoon feed your lawn 1lb of nitrogen every month from April to Sept. Spoon feed means split your monthly app into 2 or 3 smaller applications in shorter time frames.

I know the AS needs to be watered in asap so can you give some input here? For example can I spray both with out watering in? Would you always recommend some nitrogen with feature? Tnext is next on my list. Glad I found I channel Thanks in advance.

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому

      Hey Heather, I have a video on how I use feature here: ua-cam.com/video/wFAsVWEBJYc/v-deo.html
      You don't want to water FEature in for at least 4 hours (I have only used it as a foliar application, you may be able to water it in..I'm not 100% on this). You definitely can use a surfactant with it. If you are using AS with FEature, I would only use a max of 0.2 lbs of N per 1000 sq ft or you will risk burning without watering it in and I would still water it in after 4 hours. You don't need to always have nitrogen with feature, you can spray it alone if you would like. I like to add it to my mix because I'm already spraying, so might as well put it in. But if you want to be cautious about burning with AS you can skip it. Hope this helps!

    Wanting to level my lawn. Your thoughts on using compost or just sand

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому

      Compost will break down fairly quick and you'll end up in the same position. If you're going to go the compost route, I would mix it 50/50 with sand so your leveling sticks around and doesn't break down as fast. If you're planning a renovation in the future at all, I would wait to level until you start that project and then use 100% sand after that project. Once you start sand you gotta stick with it for all of your leveling or you'll create layers.

    Pre-emergence? Can you explain further?

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому

      Pre-emergent is a chemical that stops crabgrass and Poa from germinating before it grows into a weed. You're preventing the problem before it begins. There are many types of pre-emergents on the market. "Weed and Feed" is one that you have probably heard of.

    In one of your videos you mention your spraying Nitrogen in the summer. This videos you mentioned you don't????

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому

      If you spoon feed it, it's fine to do. You don't want to hit it hard with crazy amounts of nitrogen in the summer. When I'm spraying nitrogen in the summer it's around 0.1 lbs per 1000. This is more of a beginners video. I don't suggest spoon feeding nitrogen until you have the basics down.

      @@rickeya4340 that's awesome. Yeah I would just do what you're doing. Take a down just a little at a time. You shouldn't have too many issues. If you do happen to scalp at some point, just bring it back up for a week or two to let it recover and then bring it back down. Mow that thing everyday if you have the time! It'll look great!

    If you're going to invest that much time and money to make your yard look like artificial turf why not install artificial turf? People will really look at you funny when you're out there shampooing your yard.

    • @LAWNLIFE
      @LAWNLIFE  3 роки тому +2

      People really look at you funny when you're out in your yard talking to two different cameras also. My neighbors already think I'm a psycho, I'm past that part. 😂
      Being completely honest though, it's about taking pride in your work. A very small percentage of the population can keep a great looking lawn thriving throughout the year. There are many challenges and obstacles when it comes to a great stand of turf and hearing people walk by and asking if it's fake is a great feeling.
      You might still think it's dumb and that's ok. To each their own.
