Thank you for this tutorial. I've never seen flying geese made this way before. You've inspired me to put flying geese back into my quilts again.

You have truly simplified this mysterious pattern! The idea of sewing a million triangles to a square was definitely NOT appealing! Thank you so much!…..❤️-Brenda

Great tutorial. I am trying to make a scrap quilt. I really hate flying geese., I see it in a pattern and I say no right away. You made it seem so easy

I have a couple of wool mats and I've never noticed but then I'm also a knitter and used to smelling wool yarn. Though, I also use Best Press in the lavendar scent so there's that too.

I just got my first Pastry Shop Quilt subbie box and it had Lavender Best Press, so now I need a good wool mat, lol, I don't have one of those yet either.

Im pretty sure Pure wool always smells when it gets wet or damp, one of the drawbacks of a natural fibre. But it is a beautiful fibre.

My sewing machine doesn't have a quarter inch seam allowance. Or 1/4 on it. I have a Singer mending machine.

You’ll just need to measure out from the needle to find 1/4”. Often, the presser foot’s edge is a good 1/4” guide. You can also put a piece of washi tape on the machine for a guide.

I have to somewhat disagree with something you said. You said that because your quilt had lots of orange and brown you probably would avoid purple. Some of the most beautiful scrap quilts have every color you can imagine in them BUT not with the larger block size you are using. I usually make my blocks smaller so the skies the limit. If you also have friends that sew or are in an online quilting bee, try doing a swatch swap. Anything from a 10” square to a fat quarter (18 x 22”) in a specific color or type of fabrics I.e. my favorite, batiks. I followed my mom into quilt piecing (I usually don’t say I’m a quilter bcuz people tend to think you’re sitting around with a needle and thread) over 25 years ago and you can never make them all, lol! Let me know if you would like to know the 2 best scrap quilt books I (and most others I know) have ever found. They are old books but the quilts are AMAZING! Sorry for the long post- new subscriber!

It does get smelly, and I purchased a very expensive matt. I can deal with it. I would suggest wearing a mask if it bothers you that much. Just a suggestion. 🙂

🤗I don't use steam and I get no smell...and my mat was also spendy. I've heard that some just smell...probably bcuz the wool wasn't cleaned properly before they made it. 🥰
