cleanest feiro I've ever seen
Hi Fantastically Dillon, Glad you enjoyed this one :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
That’s what I was thinking, has this thing ever been outside? Pretty cool for a fiero , better looking than the yellow one, too wedgie shaped!
Exact thoughts
Yeah yeah yeah im actually jealous id love to have that fiero holy cow i im in love with this fiero
@@aceboogie8986 Ditto. I'm REALLY digging it. Awesome.
Who’s here because of Ronald Fingers Feiro revival? Awesome car btw..
Hi Northern farmer, Glad you think this car is "Awesome" :-) Lou
Yes. looks kind of cool.
I am !! Never forgot this car from the 80's. I thought that the lighted pontiac rear fender in combination with the GT package in red, was about the coolest thing on the road.
@@bradryan8071 yea it's a nice little car..just needed more power
I'm here because Fieros are awesome, but I did see his video which did respark my interest in looking at Fieros. So in a way, YES!!
Wow, that a beauty, cleanest Fiero on the planet. Like a time capsule back to 1988!!
Saw one of these at a cruise night 1999 a Gt model with a Caddy North Star engine....It also had a rare Snorkel air intake over the rear roof...It was outstanding to see and hear run.
Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
I bought my 88 GT back in late 1987. I still have it to this day. It's always exciting to drive it.

Very well preserved. When I was in middle school, these were some of the coolest looking cars around. Still a nice look today.
Happy to read you enjoy the condition of this car, and glad to read it brings back good memories :-)
WANT!!!!!!!!! The GTO, the Fiero and the Firebird..... Pontiac made some sexy cars!!! Mistake that they are no longer!!!
Hope you GET!!!!! :-)
Don't forget the Solstice!
I remember when the Pontiac CEO stated that the Firebird would never be made again. I said to myself, "then Pontiac wont be making any cars ever again".
Damn right. It's a slap in the face from GM to drop Pontiac and keep Buick.
Yeh it happened when that other guy was president and we were paying 4 and 5 $ a gallon for gas and had that 'cash for clunkers campaign that took these cars and alot of others to the cruser.....
I owned a Pontiac Trans Am GTA and always admired the Fiero GT. I always felt the Fiero GT was a car ahead of its time and is missed in today's American car lineup. I mentioned my Trans Am GTA because a close friend was always wanting to Race his brand new Fiero GT vs my GTA cruising the weekends (Stock vs Stock). My friend is no longer with us so it was pretty special to see this mint condition Fiero GT as it brought back fond memories. Thanks for that. Beautiful Car.! You might be wondering who won? I think it best to appreciate the special memories a car can bring to a person's life. PEACE! ✌😎

Oh man... The '88 Pontiac Fiero GT was always one of my dream cars back when I was young. I used to fawn and swoon over them whenever I saw them cruising by and died of envy. When it came down to getting my first car a year after Pontiac stopped making the Fiero, my Dad absolutely refused to help me get one. He fell victim to some of the "bad press" he'd heard about them so I wound up getting an '85 2-tone Sunbird (Dark Blue on top, gray on lower) instead. *_HARDLY_* the same thing but, I loved my Sunbird too. It was in near mint condition, had an awesome factory cassette stereo system. deluxe Pontiac wire spoke rims and was clean as a whistle. I'll never forget it. Still, I'll always have a special place in my heart for the '88 Fiero GT. To this day, I still think it looks awesome... Great upload here...
Hi Modsleix 6, Glad you enjoy this video, and thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I have a 1988 Fiero GT that I bought in late 87. It has 54k miles. The 5-speed is the only way to go.
Hi Mark S, I can read you're the right Care Taker for you car, nice! Lou
I'll give you 10500 for it!!
Good luck ! His is worth at least 16,000$ IF he ever wants to sell it !
I own one exactly the same except with black wheels and no AC. 78,000km, all original. Appraised last year at 17,000 C$.
I think a manual transmission is always the way to go, my dad was a mechanic and taught all us girls to drive sticks it gives you the most power and response, too bad the car makers are hardly making them now, from what I understand on all new cars (if available) its a special order.
I have an '88GT I purchased in March of '88. Just under 50k. Red with camel (tan) interior, cloth seats. I take it out once or twice a year ;)
Beautiful Fiero GT. Thanks for sharing something rarely seen anymore.
Hi Brenden Howe, Glad you thought this one is beautiful :-) You're right, seems like they all kind of went away, so it was nice to video and share this one in this condition. Hope you see other cars on the Channel you'll enjoy too, Lou
Pontiac Excitement!!! GM so stupid for dropping this name plate.
Gm should’ve died all their cars since the 90s have been shitboxes
Even dumber that they got a bailout. They deserved to fail. It would teach them to get rid of their MISmanagers.
@@SS-cv6lq Usually the difference between brands other than slightly different body panels is that they end up optioned different in stock trim. Pontiac might end up with a tighter steering ratio, stiffer suspension, and shorter final drive ratio than the Chevy without resorting to doing a custom order. (And all that fitting with Pontiac being the "sportier" brand.) And interiors tend to be different enough to make one choice vs. another worth it too, even though they're technically the "same car". One brand might only have "idiot lights" and no tach, where the other will feature a full gauge cluster.

your recent post was brought to my attention...I am the owner and your timing is uncanny! I am selling the FIERO, hard to let it go, but it is time...let me know if you are serious about your post
Shame GM ended the Pontiac brand. They made some beautiful cars.
Pontiac is the only brand my Dad would buy.
GM should have kept Pontiac and gotten rid of GMC.

Hi M D, Glad you enjoy this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your first hand knowledge. Lou
I bought mine in November 1987 as a 1988 model GT. Mine had the same body, interior and wheel options that this one has but my seats are all black leather and my entertainment center has the CD and Cassette combination with factory installed BOSE performance speaker package. The only difference is this car has over 60,000 miles on it and mine only has 12,061 original miles. This is my absolute favorite car. She’s been babied and pampered. I’d never sell it.
Drive that thing. Your only saving it for the next guy.
apiece ofdirt I’m looking to add one to my Pontiac Collection, I’m willing to pay you up to one million US dollars depending on condition, I’m looking for
Mint. You interested in selling?
Wanna trade it? I have one with no cassette and mp3 aftermarket and it has 11061 mi same color red with 87 trans am honeycomb rims on it
Part of that story is false! There was never a Bose speaker package offered in a Fiero or a CD and cassette combo stereo. The was a performance speaker package where you had speakers in the headrests of the seats, but that wasn't developed by Bose.

Hi Ed B., I agree, the exhaust note caught me by surprise too. You're welcome and it's my pleasure, Lou
You should hear mine in a tunnel after a downshift. Sublime ! Almost Italian.
No kidding. I'm 65 and still do it occasionally. Blank stares from Soccer Moms, smiles from hubbies !
My buddy had an 86 with an exhaust on it I can't remember the name, but I know when he'd stand on it and shift, it sounded like a Ferrari from Ferris bueller's day off.
My Dad worked at the Fiero plant in Pontiac, Michigan during it's whole run from 1984-88. Interesting fact - Pontiac had a deal with the employees at the plant where they all put their names in a drawing. And they gave away I think it was the last 2 Fiero's ever made to two plant workers. My Dad saw one of the guys around town years later, and he said he still had it in his garage in mint condition! Pretty cool!

One of those recently sold for $90k at US auction. Wonderful time to see these cars being appreciated.
Beautiful car. Pontiac created some really Great cars thanks to the engineers in the back room, and some side-stepping around the GM bureaucrats !
Hi List Media, inc., Glad you like this one :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
List Media, Inc. Yep. Had alot of potential... Engineering studies took place on a 4-wheel-steering as well as a 4-wheel-drive testbed ( could've been something to see both safely integrated into one ) not to mention the eventual suspension redesign for eliminating bump steer just prior to its discontinuation... and an often-cited turbo'd engine test using either the 3.1L , 3.4L DOHC, 3.8L or the Buick V6 turbo by varied accounts which, as legend has it, incited existentially spooked Corvette departments.
4WS and mention of 4WD in this article:

Yep...GM bureaucrats tried to kill Pontiac earlier in it's history when it started becoming the performance division. Later, they finally succeeded along with Oldsmobile.
This is beautiful and nostalgic!
I miss Pontiac
Hi Lunamaria, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Well if you miss Pontiac, I'd suggest when on UA-cam type in the search "My Car Story with Lou Pontiac" and I think you'll see many you'll enjoy, Lou
@@loucostabile The 1988 Fierro GT was always a special car and looks the best with cosmetic modifications!❤ Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out! ☺️
They had "test mules" that had the 3.8L V6 from the Buick GNX. They would take them out when ever the Corvette guys were testing stuff. Each mule had a bumper sticker that said I break for Corvettes. They were so fast the Corvette looked like a Chevette compared to those one off Fiero GNX
Hi Dean Cory, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
While this story sounds good, I am not sure it is true, The GN motor was a RWD block, and would not work with a Fiero transmission without an adapter plate and other mods (similar to RWD V8 conversions into a Fiero). The newer 3800 installs that are in many Fieros now, such as in mine, are FWD motors, which are very different bell housing from the Buick GN RWD motors that existed in the 80's.
Just rumors...
The turbo 3.1 was being developed in '88 so it's more likely to be a turbo 2.8 or 3.1.
3.4L dohc quadcam v6 is what the 89 was to get along with the 2L dohc 4cly. Funny that even the 2L would have had more power than the v6 2.8L. Would have been an excellent line up for these cars along with the alloy spaceframe they were slated for.
Absolutely beautiful. I had an 85 GT back in 1986 and I loved that car..... I loved the 86-88 even more though.
Hi George, High praise for this Fiero :-) Happy to read you had one too and loved your car, Lou
@@loucostabile How I wish I had the 88 now. 2021 and it’s still an awesome design inside and out.
I’m really jealous. 👍🏽
Incredible car Lou. I drove one when they first came out. The acceleration was incredible (one of the fastest accelerating cars I've ever driven). I regret to this day I didn't buy it. Pontiac really blew it when they didn't further refine/develop this gem.
Hi MrGeeMan1980, Sounds like good memories on the drive, nicely done and thank you for sharing, Lou
MrGeeMan1980 Yep. Had alot of potential... 4WS and mention of 4WD in this article:
2bluesc.com/pictures/Other/misc/four_wheel_steer_big.jpg
Donno about the 4wd but I remember seeing in Road&Track a shot of an engineer with a prototype car sporting an all aluminum frame and an Olds Quad4 engine. The big brass rejected both ideas. Actually, GM ordered the total discontinuation of the program, the scraping of all tooling and molds, including the revolutionizing Mill & Drill machine assuring a perfect fit space frame / body panels. A pure disgrace thanks to the Corvette friggin' bums. Remember that late '80s C4 was a crappy car, big, slow, ugly to look at and sit in.
Still hate them.
People are putting supercharged 3800s in these now. GM should have done that 30 yrs ago.
They couldn't due to corporate policy stating that the only Sports car in GM line up was the Corvette. Chevy guys hated the Fiero from the start, remember ? So Pontiac had to sell it to top brass as a "commuter car", not a Sports car thus the lame Iron Duke at the start. Then the so-so 2.8 V6. They would never, ever agreed on the SC 3800. Sad. Damn Corvette.
One thing I always loved about Pontiac is red gauges
Nice :-)

I have an '88 GT too where the original engine is bored up from 2.8L to 3.1L and with the turbo and tuning it makes 300 HP. Pulls really strong. Always makes me happy to drive it. A real Ferrari for poor.
300HP in a Fiero is a very large number. Congrats on your car, Lou
Lou Costabile Yes and it pushes pretty strong. The engine got overhauled last year. Still waiting for it to be assembled.
I had a 3.8L III supercharged in mine. Even with "only" 260hp it was a handful and would make the front end light. I had to keep about 80lbs of sand in ontop of the spare tire.

The 88 GT is the only one worth owning. This was the year Pontiac finally made this car more like it was originally intended, instead of the stupid GM "you need to use parts off the shelf and Iron Duke 4" BS.
also GM corporate wouldn't allow this car to be faster because they had this insane theory for decades that if ANYTHING was .01% faster than the corvette that it would out sell corvette and they wouldn't be able to sell any more corvettes. I kinda hate the corvette for this reason.

However most accepted account is it throwing a rod and the oil catching fire since the iron duke had to have a small oil pan to fit and it constantly ran 1-1/5 quarts low. all in all probably one of the most modifiable track car on the planet. even though gm missed the mark garage engineers got a great platform.
Yeah the 4 cylinder Iron Duke had the quirk that when the engine sat overnight, oil had the tendency to seep past the pistons and into the combustion chamber. When started the engine belched out a huge quantity of blue smoke. Once started and running, the engine was fine - no smoke or burnt oil smell.
Only about 12 cars ever caught on fire. All were 1984 models with the Iron Duke (V6 wasn't available until late 1985 and no V6 models were ever recalled for starting fires). GM fixed the problem by installing better heat shielding.
a handfull of first year 1984 models did. They fixed the issue and all the other years were fine.
Best sounding v6 ever
:-)
HARD TO FIND THESE BECAUSE THEY ARE USED TO MAKE A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT KIT CARS.I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE THIS NICE GREAT WORK

The paint on this car is outstanding 🇺🇸
Agreed :-)
I wanted one of these so bad when they came out. I had to opt for a model car, instead, as I was too young at the time :D
Hi Jacob, Happy to read you enjoy this model, Lou

Hi Don Larsen Jr, I think the quote was from Dr. Seuss who said, "Don't be sad it's over. Be glad it happened." That quote helps me with people and things I miss and I hope it helps you too, Lou
Beautiful car, always liked the GT a LOT. Makes me miss the days of individuality on the road, when you could tell from the other side of a parking lot what you were looking at (for the most part). Thanks for showing this one, very very nice.

I had this exact car in 90, I loved that car and it was, and still is, quite a good looking car. I does sound cool also with that throaty dual exhaust.
Hi Paul Olmstead, Happy to read this video brings back memories of your Fiero :-) Lou
Lou do you have a favorite car? I’ve really been enjoying your Fiero and Fiat X/19 videos. When I was in High School I wanted a Fiat so bad! So cheap in those auto trader magazines- I’d read those things for hours. Got my first Fiero (87 GT) in 1991- I missed it all my life and got a 1986 SE in 2018. Both are gone now- I drive a 2010 Mustang convertible, but the little mid-engined wedge cars will always have a place in my heart. Your videos make me so happy.
Hi David, Reading my videos make you happy makes me happy :-) Here is my favorite car, Lou ua-cam.com/video/eRmPk_ITrBs/v-deo.html

I had a red 86 GT fast back with a 4 speed manual, Holley air induction side scoop, Msd ignition, 4 point roll bar tig welded in. It was a head turner back in the day, really miss these cars.
Hi Jody Conrad, Thank you for sharing your 1st hand knowledge of your Fiero :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
I was 16 in 1990 & I wanted this car. I may have wanted it more than an other object I have ever desired. I never got one. I ended up with an 87 Charger for my first car. And if you remember what they looked like you will know my disappointment was immeasurable & my life was ruined.
Hi R.J. Dean, Good news! There is still time! Hope you're behind the wheel of the right Fiero for you soon, Lou
Wow. Very nice I have always wanted one. So clean. So nice. This guy must be so proud !!
Hi Tyler Strother, Glad to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Hope you're behind the wheel of yours one day soon, Lou

I had a white '88 with Hydraulics, 30 neon bulbs, Soundstream audio system and gold wire wheels. My parents hated me for it. :-)

That's a really nice Fiero, just awesome. Congrats. I had an 86 I think SL in maroon color in HS. It was a really fun car and I always had so many compliments and the girls always wanted to ride in it. Dont know why so many people bash them, for what they are they were really fun.
Hi Nate974 Givens, Glad you enjoy this Fiero, and thank you for sharing your first hand experience too :-) Lou
A friend of mine had one in like '89. Cool little car, it handled awesome. It was like riding in a roller skate!
"Riding in a roller skate!" Nice :-)
Graduated high school in 89 and if i could go back and have this car my senior year,,that would be awsome.

When I first saw the first Pontiac Fiero in 1984 but after hearing about some having fire issues I backed away but once they fixed it and moved I still wanted one .. when I saw the GT version in 1986 I knew I had to have one .. but never gotten one yet today .. thank you for sharing your car.. it is truly a beautiful car .. and I also loved the Trans Am since the 1970s but when the 82 came out I fell in love with it but it only had teh small block 305 Cu inch /5.0 litre engine with the cross fire injection which again they had problems with them but by 1985 the 350 was put back in and then the car really moved.. though the Trans Am took off the Scoop I loved so much and replaced with vent louvers on the front of the hood.. still a great car.. but by 93 when the new model rolled out carried on to 2002 the last model with fixed head lamps nomore pop ups and GM pulled the plug on the Fire Bird no long to be made.. I as sad.. but keep these classics rolling . I love em
I hope someday I will get myself a good used not too beaten Firebird as too many were abused and driven hard.
