Honestly I think the SR-2 internal design makes _way_ more sense. This one just feels a lot like BioWare _thought_ they knew what they were doing but then didn't actually consider most of the implications of the design elements themselves.

From what I understand the stasis pods do double as sleeping capsules. When someone steps and lies down, they immediately create a mass effect field that makes it feel as though your on a flat bed, even though your still upright and it automatically blocks out any distracting light or sound while adjusting to provide personalised ambient sound, temperature and even matress setting for body type ensuring a comfortable rest cycle.

The name _Normandy_ itself is rather fitting. Given that it was designed by the joint effort of two nations/civilizations with a great deal of time, money, and planning; with it's commissioning being revolutionary in it of itself, and it's actions through blood, toil, tears, and sweat playing a significant role for the future.
Curious to see what further _Mass Effect_ video you plan on doing.

Its really nice to have such an in depth overview, there isnt very many videos that go so far into things and even give educated guesses on smaller things that are not explained like the consoles along the side. A lot of other creators just say what is in the games files, and dont go above and beyond exploring and extrapolating. I really appreciate how much effort was put into this.

I liked how in ME2 the in the collector mission when an occulus breaks unto the hold, and then in 3 that's just an accessible region of the ship.
I should imagine there's some further crew bunks, larger mess space and storage for the likes of rations and equipment on another level of the cargo lift, just that we never need to go there.
Additionally there is no known internal access to any weapons systems, the linac cannon or torpedoe tubes so there must be a more expansive deck somewhere.
Maybe its between the crew deck and the engineering and cargo bay decks and that's why loading between the main and command deck and the engineering deck take so long xD

Overall nice video, I do love the SR-1 design with its articulating thruster wings, even though some parts of it always bugged me. Like... Where are the weapons? Javelin torpedo pods are supposed to be magnetically bolted to the hull, but we never see any. The GARDIAN system could be hidden behind panels, but I would like to have been able to see it in action. The weapon that really baffles me, though, is the spinal mass accelerator. The Normandy's hull is so sharply curved, I just don't see how any cannon barrel that's supposed to run through most of the length of the hull is supposed to fit. Not to mention the fact that, as far as I can see, there's no visible muzzle for the thing.
Still, the high-speed jet shape is a treat to look at. One correction to make on the video, though, the two to three hour endurance on the Normandy's stealth systems is, according to the in-game codex, only in place if she's using the Tantalus drive to manoeuvre. You missed going over its function; the Tantalus creates a mass effect field in front of the Normandy to 'fall' into, allowing it to make large changes to its velocity without the heat plume of the main drive to give it away. The codex claims that the ship can 'drift passively for days' with stealth systems engaged. I like to imagine that a Normandy-class ship would be able to enter some sort of 'silent running' doctrine, where systems like artificial gravity and unnecessary deck lighting are disabled to reduce heat production.

I have to agree with that, seasons 1 and 2 are of exploring the galaxy looking for Saren, then the third season finding him with the build up at the end. The Seasons 4 and 5 involve shepard's resurrection and team building and upgrades, season 6 involves facing the collectors down. Seasons 7 and 8 revolve around shepard getting the galaxy together for war against the reapers. And in season 9, the actual assault on earth to destroy reapers. With the end being voted on by the public at large.
The Vote would start at season 7 and then when season nine starts the voting ends. And the ending is locked as official cannon

Your Codex on the game tells you what all do stations and sleeping pods are for and how they work. Some are heatsink control and some are Point defense systems gunner stations. If I remember correctly, three people are starting to eat sleep pod, and three work shifts so those pods that we never unoccupied, during long missions four occupants with four work shifts. There is restroom and showers but not accessible in the game, unlike in Normandy SR2. About the ship under that same class, unless there's a city with that name it sounds unlikely since the Codex says all frigates are named after Earth cities, dreadknots named after mountains, I think the Cruisers are named after in Lakes.

  • @The_Viscount
    @The_Viscount 3 роки тому

Honestly, the use of the Turian bridge mirrors many modern ship designs. The bridge is used for general navigation, but the CIC is in the center of a ship. Backup steering exists in the CIC away from the exposed bridge.

    • @captainufo4587
      @captainufo4587 3 роки тому

The reason to have an exposed bridge in a sea-ship, though, is that you actually need to look out of the windows for approach maneuvers. That doesn't really make sense in a spaceship, even a spaceship that lands on planets and docks on stations like the normandy.

    Normandy armorments
    Mass accelerator(standard frigate)
    ( According to my estimates)
    Length: 137m
    Slug: 3.7kg ferric metal
    Velocity: 684m/s
    Damage: 6.7kt
    Fire rate: 1 slug/2s
    2 disruptor torpedo tubes
Fires disruptor torpedos at a converging trajectory. Meant to collide before hitting the target. The resulting dark matter explosion strips shields and damages armor
    GARDIAN(standard frigate)
Laser defense turrets on the exterior of the ship's hull that serve an anti-fighter/anti-missile role. Can be used as offensive weapons in combat.
    Kinetic-barriers(standard frigate)
Tiny emitters scattered through out the exterior of a ship's hull. If they detect an object traveling above a certain velocity, it triggers the reflex systems, creating a series of mass effect fields in a localized area to block or deflect it
    Ablative armor(standard frigate)
Sheets of ceramic armor design to boil away when heated in order to spread out the heat of an energy based weapon in order to take less damage.
I also don't know where u came with this idea that the SR2 was the original design for the SR1. I know a lot about the lore and according to the lore that I know. The SR2 was created using the original blueprints of the SR1. All the improvements are the reason that the SR2 is so much bigger

Cannot wait until you do the Cerberus SR-2, that is by far my favourite in the SR-2 line, with the colours and you know, that newness, fresh out of dock feel, upgrading it from the base model and making it more remarkable.
The Alliance colours for 3 are a bit boring (sorry for the Alliance fans out there) but it looks alot better in Cerberus colours.
The SR-1 is an alright vessel, and I agree, it needs a bridge, the CIC from the pilot is a fair bit to go, even for giving out orders in battle scenarios.
And man that lift/elevator to go down to the engineering deck and mako bay, that is slow, that should have its own music for the passing of time getting from deck to deck, ha ha.
I really do question the captain's cabin on the same deck as the mess area, hope it is soundproofed...
Wasn't the cost of the engine core or the vessel itself the same cost as a cruiser?

To turn heat into useful energy requires somewhere to dump the heat that doesn't get converted because 100% conversion efficiency is impossible. Maybe it does this with the lithium heat battery to extend stealth time but the time limit would still exist regardless. Also since the lithium heat batter will quickly become hotter than whatever is dumping heat into it, it likely costs energy to use, making the problem worse.
Now if you had multiple lithium batteries and could wrap one in insulation just before it got too hot to use and ejected it you might get more stealth time but with more risks of the battery being detected and by extension the whole ship

Also the mass effect has a built in mind control aspect that brainwashes everyone who comes into contact with it in a bit of retconning that makes no sense at all but allows them to end the third game in the laziest way possible. Yes, twenty seconds into the lore video and the third game has already started screeching and punching everyone in the face.

I have to say that the SR-2 is a way better ship and proven when it went up against the collectors. Also the creature comforts was a great plus. Once the alliance got a hold of it... It was still a great ship but the soul was removed for "greater safety" and simply don't approve. That ship was simply amazing and privately funded. No government ship could match except for maybe a dreadnought. But we saw just how capable they were against the reapers.

Didn't the Salarians 'acquire' the plans, and then started building a fleet of these frigates? I know I saw that somewhere in-game.

    • @kengeru100
      @kengeru100 3 роки тому +1

Aye, they did, its mentioned in the description of the Salarian First Fleet War Asset. Though they didn't build a fleet of Normandy style frigates but rather implemented the Stealth system into their dreadnoughts... (don't ask how that makes sense)
Though I think we can all agree that the STG at least has plenty of smaller stealth shipd like the SR1 even if they are not mentioned.

@@TerryMcQ79 Well, the Tempest is an Initiative design so not Salarian military, whether STG or more conventional. Though its technology might have been accquired through Salarians a and Alliance contacts.

idk why, but i always prefered the sr1 to 2.
the sr1 just feels like more of a military stealth vessel. the floor to sealing interfaces along the main spine from the command section to the controls, and the lack of a front window gives me some really cool submarine vibs that work with its stealth role.
the sr2 just feels a little too open and almost like a luxury cruiser rather than a military vessel.

Space management on the Normandy is terrible, but given that it was inspired by Star Trek and Star Wars and was intended for a 3rd person game, it make sense and overall turned out great.

Ah the Normandy Bridge/CIC layout, never been a fan of it unlike the ship herself (SR-1>SR-2).
Despite the explanation often given, the CIC isn't realistically anymore protected than the bridge or any other part of the ship. Any foe that can find the ship and as weapons that can penetrate or bypass the barriers/armor likely won't be stopped by a few deck plates and airtight doors.
Now the CIC *could* be using a conning tower-like approach and could itself be covered in another layer of armor that's at least as strong as the armored sections of the rest of the ship, but if that's the case then it doesn't matter where on the ship it is other than possibly trying to distribute the mass of the ship to get certain performance characteristics while underway.
That being said, having a separate CIC and bridge does make sense. However the caveat of that is that they make sense when portrayed like real life CICs and bridges. i.e. the CIC is where the specialists take in and process large amounts of incoming information and relay the processed information to the Captain and command staff on the bridge (or alternative command station) so they can make decisions.
Also before anyone says it, windows aren't a structural weakness. If a ship's design can be compromised by simple port holes in noncritical areas (1), then the design is what's at fault.
    (1) The bridge is considered a noncritical area in this case. Knocking out the bridge does not cripple a ship unless bad writing is involved. There are only three ways to mission kill a ship; knock out main power, disable engines and weapons, and kill the entire crew. The lattermost is basically impossible to do without having first done at least one of the former.
Any ship that still has power can still maneuver and fight, this is something we've seen time and again in real life. The bridge and/or conning tower is knocked out, the command crew is killed, and the ship keeps fighting because control was routed to any number of places (though usually a dedicated auxiliary control station or main engineering).

As far as the look of the ship goes, uve always liked the sr-1 more than the sr-2. The sr-1 always looked more maneuverable n stealthy.
