I find it interesting that when Kevin can't do all the sounds, Avi takes over and cover those parts. I saw them demo it. Very cool. Those guys are amazing. What a team.

@@Xureck23 There is actually a clip of them doing that on stage. Maybe you wanna see that and react to it? Sadly I cant find the video at the moment but somebody else might be able to help with this? It was a poor quality clip and on a small stage, maybe at some high school or sth, but it showed excellently how Avi and Kevin play with percussion parts like tennis, switching back and forth.

There really isn’t “post production”. When Avi sings, Scott takes over the bass. When Kevin sings, Avi covers. They work as a team. Watch them live in concert, and you’ll see.

  • @gailseatonhumbert9199

Avi just has a deep true bass. This is in chest notes. He has stated he doesn't know how to do subharmonics (doesn't really need them with his natural range). He hardly ever even uses a growl or fire breathing technique only for very low notes but Avi is unusual and for most bass singers you would be correct.

    • @Xureck23
      @Xureck23  3 роки тому +5

This is interesting, but maybe, just maybe, he doesn't know that he is doing some proper technics. That just happened to me with subharmonics, in fact, you can hear subharmonics sometimes in my voice in this video and it comes naturally, it is part of my way of speaking. That doesn't mean that I'm not using any technic at all, even if I do it without knowing.

@@Xureck23 I would probably agree with you if we were speaking of the other group members who are also natural talents; they had no formal higher education regarding voice and technique. But Avi had already completed at least 3 years of college in a music program so I’m guessing he would have been familiar enough with formal voice techniques to identify and confirm his stylistic choices.

Hey Xureck! This was another great video 👍I'm not a beatboxer so I find all of this stuff really fascinating! You know how to do so many things with your voice 😮
That thing you were doing at 3:25 is what a lot of bass singers like to call “growling.” Yeah Avi Kaplan uses this technique sometimes. Check out this compilation of him doing the technique: ua-cam.com/video/sCknQAXb5sw/v-deo.html
In this song Can’t Hold Us, I agree that some of Avi's notes do sound a little like the “growling” technique, but they’re actually still his normal voice. He’s a great bass, his chest voice goes really low, so he can sing those bass notes using his chest voice
    . He's really impressive
But yeah, Avi does use the “growling” technique sometimes
Another bass singer who uses the technique is Tim Foust, from Home Free. Tim uses the technique more often than Avi does. Tim does a "growl" at the end of the song Ring of Fire which Avi was featured in. I think that's Tim's most famous "growl," you've might have heard it before, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/0l3dsHCScxU/v-deo.htmlm10s
There's a huge bass singing community here on UA-cam and Discord (there's a popular server called "Bass Singing Nation") where people talk about stuff like this all the time, and people love talking about the "growling" technique. It's quickly getting a lot more popular in the bass-singing world. It's cool to see that beatboxers use the technique too 👍And that inward one is really cool, I had never seen someone inhale like that, I'm afraid if I tried that I would hurt myself LOL
    Great video Xureck!

    He uses a breathy chest
And you can make your chest sounds chesty powerful or really breathy chest out Geoff castelucci who's chest sound fry but not fry pure powerful chest
But some bass has a chest limit and after their limit they start to fry Mix their chest

I just did the cymbal example, what I meant was that this cymbal sound was recorded and added later on post production. You can not be doing the percussion and cymbal like that. Doing it live is another thing, they have to risk quality if the want to sound big, full...

    • @christinakyleloves

Actually what you are saying is a bad thing. They are an Acapella group, voice only. That is mostly why they are popular, unique and amazing!! They have done maybe half a dozen songs that might include violin, cello(played by Kevin while simultaneously beatboxing), or piano. Never a drum kit, cymbal, etc..
