    I think cod is a good franchise, but it has just lost that innovation that put it on the map to begin with.

    • @kaktotak8267
      @kaktotak8267 6 років тому +26

      And by "innovation" you mean "dumbing down"? The whole point of the early games in the franchise was to dumb down the FPS genre to idiots who can't into games. Apparently, they hit the rock bottom of stupidity. It makes me kinda hopeful that this limit even exists.

      I'd actually agree that it is a boring level to play, however, when it was made to my knowledge there wasn't any game that had done such a life like simulation of an AC-130 spectre and that's what made it great. Compare it to real life footage and it's virtually the exact same.

      Bat Dude its pretty good, but i dont personally think its excellent. I think the super feel good save the day ending where you go and save your buddy is what killed it a bit. I definitely had tons of fun and loved most of the campaign, but at the end it wouldve been so much better if the character zussman died in the concentration camp. Would have made the holocaust a lot more personal and gritty, and would have made the ending feel idk a bit....... realistic in a sense cause idk the guy was in a flipping concentration camp. But yea thats my two cents.

    It's worth noting that much of the bad reception to all the future-based CoD gameplay elements was largely due to the fact that Titanfall/ Titanfall 2 already did those things faster. Wall-running, boost jumping, and sliding in CoD feel so inferior to those same mechanics in Titanfall, and that bothers a lot of players.

    • @anon2427

      This Guy Are you joking? The first Titanfall sold over 10 million copies and was only available on Xbox and PC, the sequel also sold at least 2 million copies so yes quite a lot of people has played the Titanfall games and know that the gameplay is far superior in them than Cod

  • @matman000000
    @matman000000 6 років тому +634

    Call of Duty did loose its identity. The franchise started as a cinematic shooter going for historical authenticity that wasn't seen in games of the time. It took inspiration from actual historical events or adapted scenes from respected war movies like Band of Brothers and Enemy at the Gates. In a time when Master Chief was saving galaxies, CoD made the player just one of many foot soldiers on the battlefield. That ended once CoD achieved its massive success with MW1. That game was a war thriller in the vein of Tom Clancy's stories. World at War still kept some of these ideas while going for a more stylized and visceral experience, but MW2 shows a clear diversion from this trend. Where the first game took inspiration from Black Hawk Down, this one wanted to be The Rock and Tomorrow Never Dies. Every mission had to end in a giant explosion, the story lost all subtlety of its predecessor and the game tried to Shock and Awe you in every other mission. It's not surprising West and Zampella left after this game. The series has transformed into a Michael Bay movie and only became more overblown and tackier with each sequel, eventually completely losing what made it great in the first place.

      Mattchester Oh man you are so right. I really miss cods like cod1. I remember so much epic scenes like the beginning of the russian campaign where you headed to stalingrad in a boat and stukas constantly flew over you and the machine gun fire and soldiers trying to escape but getting shot from their own fellows... It was such a great atmosphere but it will never come back again... Sadly

    Call of Duty lost its identity in time, from basically " you are a simple soldier,a no-one, go and fight!" to " YOU AND YOU ALONE HAVE TO STOP THAT WEAPON THAT WILL DESTROY THE WORLD AND WHILE IT KILL THE GENERIC BAD GUY,GO GET EM' BOY!" but people always forget: there are no bad guys in wars,everyone is tainted. Also the fact that you ALWAYS fight as the allies or the "good guys" got really boring. Why don't we get a game where you fight as a Nazi soldier? instead of putting our hands to our ears and yelling "LALALA, I AM NOT HEARING ANYTHING ABOUT NAZI GERMANY", instead of that,they could show how war would be in the side of the nazis from the perspective of a simple man,how horrifying it is,how the people were force to fight for them,maybe show some horrifying things that allies have done too. That is in my opinion what will revive COD,till then,it may as well stay dead.

    World at War was the most rounded Call of Duty. It had a new, impressive campaign with memorable cut scenes and characters you cared for (Like Sgt. Roebuck, Pvt. Chernov, or Sgt. Reznov), a multiplayer with a style seen to this day (except they included tanks in such maps as Downfall), and the formation of the infamous Zombies mode. Not to mention it's brilliant background music and the fact it was nitty gritty with plenty of moments in all modes that made you think "war is hell" more than any other game in the franchise.

      When it comes to COD after Modern Warfare 2 I realised that these games are working class games. The Michael Bay video games. I came to terms with it and enjoyed every single one of them. Didn't get into multiplayer because it became the same thing with every year. It was the campaigns that kept me coming. I would rent and borrow just to play through them. I was one of the few people that loved Infinite Warfare's campaign. It tried so hard. I loved it for that and I'll be honest, I'm hoping it gets an even bigger sequel.

    Modern warfare 2 is the pinnacle of the COD franchise it has all the elements that a COD game needs to be amazing it has great maps with good flow and predictable spawns majority of the weapons primary AMD secondary are really powerful and the killstreaks are very strong, also something that MW2 did very well is just the overall style of the game and I literally mean the visuals the animations of how you run reload all that was visually appealing.

    The reason COD still sells is beacuse of teens, "Christmas Noobs" , and Men are 30 to 40.
    The target demo for COD is teens and teens are drawn to the game beacuse it's easy to hop online with friends not to mention the youtubers who directly market teens and kids (just search COD on yt)
    Older guys play it because it's easy progression it's easy to just jump into a game after work without devoting your time to something like Fallout or The Witcher.
    And finally the parents who buy their kid COD on Christmas because thats what everyone at the "game store" is buying.

    • @5dwolf22
      @5dwolf22 6 років тому +6

      Why I play cod is because it's easy to learn but hard to master.
      Games like counter strike are hard to get into and hard to master. Which make not that fun to me. If your good your just shitting on everyone else.
      In cod you have to be really really good to be consistent getting 3.0 KD and 600 spm. Don't tell me it doesn't take skill to achieve those stats.
      Speaking of stats, cod is based off stats. That's the main point of the game. That's what most people that don't play the game often don't realize. They see it as repeating the same thing over and over again.
      This explains why most cod games that had stats hidden didn't do to well and died very quick. I can name some right now. GHOSTS, Advanced warfare, and infinite warfare all had hidden states either the whole life cycle or atleast half of it. There's are also considered the most boring cod games.
      All treyarch games had stats and they're all doing extremely well even bo3.

What killed COD for me was I stopped playing games with friends and started playing solo which gets boring after a while. Death From Above was interesting because it showed games imitating life imitating games. It was probably one of the only times, if not *the* only time that the franchise gave you a combat experience that could've been virtually identical to what a real soldier in that position experienced. Shooting at dots on a screen probably feels more like a game than actual combat even if it's actual combat.

      Actually, probably predicted it. Yemen didn't have a civil war and Saudi Arabia blockading and genociding them when the game initially came out. But, since, Yemen and it's people are suffering from famine, Cholera outbreaks, and literal Genocide and Shia rebels trying to overthrow the primarily Sunni state.
      It's pretty fucked and BO:2 didn't even show how terrible it is. Just a mission or two in Yemen dealing with good ol' Terrorism

    Well, you also can't say that Battlefield is going any better than COD is. As I fan of Sci-fi I loved the AW campaign and IW as well, even though most people hate it, I loved it, especially IW because of the space ships... but again, as a Sci-fi fan, not a fps fan. COD still sells more and Battlefield 1 is only a shadow, in my opinion, of what BF4 was, and BF4 was only a shadow of what BF3 was... BF3 was simply life changing for me in terms of multiplayer, unfortunately EA couldn't keep that feeling alive with the upcoming games

    I think bo3 story should be continuation of Menendez story, where there is a three co-op mode, where you could play as David Mason, Harper, and Alex mason. The military power has been destroy and Menendez continue his uprising of power after he escape his prison, he started commanding his people inside United States to use terrorist attacks all over america for his revenge for his sister because he blame United State for her death. Flash back happen where Menendez remember when he was a little boy, his mom and father was killed by u.s agents, he felt intense fear and remorse. But he had his sister to take care and this mission will be the only mission where one player will be able to play Menendez and other player will spectate, after the fire we be back to the present. Main the character you play will have missions to stop the terrorist attack with block buster action, halfway through the story Alex mason die by Menendez, the team was investigating some tunnels in a state idk which one yet lol and one of the tunnels blow up and cut the team in half where Alex and David mason are together and Harper is on solo trying to find a way to get them and have support for them. Meanwhile alex and David mason talk about their past but than mernandez surprise them with a ambush and they were completely surrounded with Menendez soldiers, and Menendez comes out nowhere and he started talking about his sister to Alex and medendez gun which is a revolver is ready to shoot Alex and which Alex knew is going to come down to it, in which Alex said to David I "love you son" at that moment Menendez shot him in the head while David watch helplessly, David go to his father body and cry letting medendez escape to grieve his father by than Harper arrive and help David. after the death of Alex mason, the third player will be a random soldiers or another main character. Anyways at the end we go to the city of Detroit where Menendez final plan to destroy america, David mason, harper, and another main character or random solider to the city to stop the main villian, where Harper is going to die by Menendez, where he choke him to death. Mernandez and David are the only one left so player two will play as medendez as the final part, where David and medendez doesn't have any weapon and is a fist fight between good and evil. There will be two ending to the story of BO. I hope you guys like it, I was thinking alot what could be improve in the story of bo3

      I would love this despite being a multiplayer fan as well. I actually don't really touch the campaigns because the moment I start having fun with it, it's all over. Battlefield 1 is a prime example of this as well with it's short campaign(s). I know that MP is the big selling point, but I don't think that campaigns should just be a small afterthought anymore. I would feel a lot more comfortable knowing that if the MP community died, then I still have a great single player community to go back to.

    Cod is an action run and gun basic story and no morals and ethical choices.... the reason the airport massacre got so much hate is because cod isn't a deep game. As good as a mission and as deep as it was the 10 year olds aren't gonna get the meaning behind it neither are most of their parents.

    The series struggled because Activision made the terrible mistake of LISTENING to the Cod community. The community is too big and you can think clearly with millions of opinionated gamers trying to pull you in every direction. thats why Cod is zig zagging thru so many twists and turns. "some gamers want this, some gamers want that" the minute they decided to please everyone and go away from what GOT them their success, the series suffered. I think all the cods are great! I maintain a 3+ k/d in all of them since Cod3. I think its important to accept them all instead of trying to pigeonhole yourself by choosing not to go with the grain because they all have something to offer.

    You really really need to make a WW2 section for this as a seperate video. WW2 has one of the best campaigns yet and takes the time to define the characters while involving combat.

      I struggle to see the competitiveness in the CoD series and how there even is an eSport league for it. The skill curve in most iterations is very minimal when compared to games like Quake or UT that have massive skill curves for great competitive gameplay.

      NolePtr R6S is boring for me. I don't want to play a single mode 24/7. I'd like to play TDM or Domination, I don't want to spend my whole day camping in a corner because I only have one life. That's just boring. R6S would've been amazing for me if it had at least TDM. It's like playing SND on CoD 24/7 it's just not fun.

    • @steel2572
      @steel2572 6 років тому +1

      While I can see your point. I think the Cod Competitive skill gap lies in areas not immediately observable to outsiders. For example in hardpoint: On a basic level it may seem as though whoever wins the most gunfights wins the game. But the true skill gap is the teams ability to rotate and anchor the spawns. Or in uplink knowing when to 'overextend' and when to play kills. Search n destroy is nearly identical to csgo which everyone agrees is highly competitive. Now you might say the gunfighting itself is far less skillfull than in other shooters. While it may be edged out by csgos recoil pattern control, there are other factors to consider, namely movement. In the jetpack cods your movement is everything and it can set apart good players from amazing players and I wouldn't say it's easy to master.
      Apart from all that I think the satisfaction you get from holding a hardpoint in a truly close and desperate situation, making a crazy clutch in snd or making an insane comeback in uplink is amazing. Those moments where your heart is pounding and your adrenaline is racing is why I play games and I find that the most in comp cod.
      If you want a more detailed explanation on rotations, overextending and anchoring just ask. (Didn't want to bore anyone). :)

    They should make a cod about the future vs the past, it's obvious who would win but you never know. Another idea is picking sides in a war or to be a leader or a regular soldier. This could be asking a lot but it would be way more interesting than the same thing with had for the past 8 years

    MW2 was the game that really put Call of Duty on the map and BO2 was the last great cod title that came out, everything since Ghosts has been underwhelming. BO3 restored my faith a little bit but didn't do enough to make me a fan of the franchise again.

      honestly ghosts was still better than than any BO and was more story consistent thatn MW2. Call of duty was put on map by call of duty 2 and then rise from ashes by modern warfare. I dont what you see in the second instalment.

    I just want real rewarding killstreaks like in mw2. Sometimes i hop on that game for the sole purpose of getting a nuke because its always an existing challemge and theres nothing more satisfying than hearing the narrator call it in as the timer ticks with a foggy endscreen and a victory

    Death from above is so cool, and its one of the missions that actually gives you something to think about. How easy it is to kill people from afar with technology, dehumanizing the enemy, and making war seem more acceptable and watered down when its all from a computer screen shooting at blips. Especially relevant for how drone warfare is so common, and you know they're are real people controlling those drones, deciding when to shoot at a bunchy of blips on a computer screen.
