    I thought of something else--continuity omg my fav garden channel has cats on their property. If a cat follows into the barn and they close the door..and they edit the part out where they let the cat out..the audience will lose their minds "You locked the cat in the barn! He's gonna diiie" They had to assure everyone "Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.The cat is safe, he's fine. We let him out in an edited shot." lol

    What’s the most
    Important thing!!!
    Honest and
    Interesting content ???
    I love that harbor freight saw mill review and explanation of everything you saw and did
    No one has been able to do a video like that !!

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +1

      That video was a no-brainer. That sawmill has a LOT of interest and a lot of videos on it......but they were all poorly shot. When I shot those 2 videos I knew they would do good. If you watch them they are mostly close up shots of all the parts and pieces of the mill. TONS of close ups.
      There were several videos with 50k views on that mill from channels that had 1k subs........that tells you right there that the mill is far more popular than the channels shooting videos on it. GOOD TOPIC.
      whenever you see a video with lots of views from a channel with very few subs you know you're in the right spot to shoot a great video on an under-served topic.

    I had to chuckle, too, when you said that changing the angle and getting close ups is "almost like cheating" because it's so effective. It reminds me of the folks that complained you were "cheating" when you cooked on a gas stove instead of on the wood stove every meal. It's like saying that using our Bic to light our fires is "cheating". Nessmuk used matches instead of Flint and Steel to light his campfires. What a "cheater", eh? If it works, use it! Later :)

    Great advice on edits. Thought I'd take a look at Matt D'Avella, who I always think of as being quite a relaxed channel with a lot of talking head shots. Used my phone for a stopwatch and counted the edits. Stopped at just over 3 minutes and there were already 54 edits! So even on channels that seem quite slow there are way more edits than I thought. Thanks again for some great, simple advice.

    @RegsChannel 23 години тому

    Love this!!!! The what and why is super critical. I've tried my best to focus on this... My train of thought is that when I'm surfing on UA-cam the first 30 seconds will auto play... That's my time to "set the hook" my brand reel is 8 seconds, and then it's straight down to business. My challenge with multiple shots is editing time. I used to record with 3 cameras, then spend hours editing ... What I found helped me was keep it simple, 2 cameras for a how to video (one wide angle, one top down or hands down) and then simply crop when editing to give the impression of different angles. I am suffering a huge mental barrier to doing a voice over on my latest video, any advice for how to do this successfully? Edit the footage first then record the audio? Record the audio and then do the edit? Thanks!

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  23 години тому +1

      I like everything you said. 8 seconds sounds a bit long for branding....but do what works.
      As for the cameras, I like to use a single camera so all the close up stuff I can just grab and go without trying to talk at the same time ( unless it works)
      When doing voiceover I do ALL the edit first untill I have all the good shots trimmed up and the junk gone.... if any "component' of the video feels like it's running to long, I'll cut it down.....then when the edit is complete I'll wing the voiceover so it's "conversational". And I always try chisel it down to the fewest words while never editing out the "folksy" way we all speak in person.

    • @RegsChannel
      @RegsChannel 23 години тому

      @davewhipplevideo awesome! I am so used to having the spoken part of the video act as the backbone, and then layer on all the other stuff as B roll. I think that reversing that workflow is what's breaking my brain. I'll give it a go! Thanks again!

      I think I had the formula right, right from the start.......specific subject, quick edits , etc......but my videos were always limited by the subject's value and popularity...........make the worlds greatest video on a subject with only 10 thousand people interested in and you can never expect to get more than 10k views

      @ thanks Dave I have studied your content and understand the formula. Hopefully I can do what you have taught justice.

    Where I’m struggling, I feel like I make good videos, working to get better with every one of them, they’re not the best for sure, but I feel like I see people with 10x more subscribers and views than me and their videos just aren’t really all that good, I feel like I just need one to catch and take off and then I’ll start growing more, but until then, taking your advice and I’ll keep making videos!

      Stick with it and keep dialing things in with every video. You have some good stuff and the right basic idea.

    I do how to videos on fixing cars 🚙. I like to show the parts and tools 🛠️ required first before tackling a project. Should I put this at the end? Or just leave it open for comments so YT shows engagement from answering comments? Thanks Dave!

      I'm actually quite familiar with the auto space on UA-cam.......this would be my advice.....go watch a couple hours of Chris Fix videos and take notes. He's one of the best automotive channels on the platform. Whatever he's doing is probably the right thing to do

    Thanks once again Dave for the tips.
    Keeping this video in mind…would it be beneficial to recall or delete older videos in your history, edit them with keeping these tips in mind and re-upload as new content or just leave your list alone and progress with new content using your tips? Reason I ask is I now can see the where my past videos could certainly use this information. What I think is great content is likely the downfall and losing viewer numbers.

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому

      with your subs and your video count you dont really have anything to lose by tweaking what you have already uploaded......however, if you dont think you have high interest subjects...you new and improved videos may not perform any better. Subject is king. Great irish jig by the way

      @@davewhipplevideo Thanks for the reply Dave. My subject matter isn't going to change as I want to stay in this area. Its all about how I'm going to present what i have in the future. Your tips in this video series is certainly giving me lots to think about. The off grid cabin of mine is far from finished and i have many projects slated for 2025. I'm certainly going to change the way things are presented for sure. Thanks again and happy you like the music!!

    I like crafting videos--particularly when the thumbnail has a high quality shot of what we're going to be making in its completed glory. Then I click and watch. I absolutely hate it when a crafter says "Guess what I made" and the craft is blurred..so I'd get curious and click on it. Then the lady is showing us materials we need, she has us cutting circles and gluing stuff and I'm like "Wtf are we making??" so I'm watching for 30 minutes and then it starts coming together and I'm like "Oh..it's a snowman..why didn't you just say that and show us? I don't want to make that! Good thing I didn't go out and buy the materials! Why did I even waste my time? I could've been watching something I want to make!" so while their strategy worked at first to get clicks for curiosity, I would never click on their videos again because i'd say "Oh..that's that darn lady again who expects me to make a mystery" and I'd roll my eyes and pass it. Sadly, she probably did have some great projects but I was so frustrated it wasn't worth it.

    The informatuon you are giving is great! I have a question: Does UA-cam "throttle" channel views? I have noticed that on my videos the views are going up then BAM it just cuts off! And, also I get a bunch of views sometimes over thousands of views and then BAM hundreds of views disappear! What is up with that?! 😱🤪😝🤣👍👍🇺🇸

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +1

      UA-cam rolls out you video to their most likely viewers and if the video get views, they roll it out to a wider audience and so on......once the views drop off , UA-cam has no incentive to push that video any more because it did what it did with the most likely viewers ( your subs ) then died with a wider audience.

    • @TinyHouseHomestead
      @TinyHouseHomestead 2 дні тому +1

      @@davewhipplevideo I agree with that but the views aren't "tailing off", they are flat cutoff, flatlined! There is no "slow down or tail off" they flat cut the viewing! 😱
      And why do my numbers of views disappear, like a video will show it has gotten 1,246 views, then I check it a couple of hours later and the views are now at 532?! What is up with that?! 😡

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +1

      Ive never seen that before

    • @TinyHouseHomestead
      @TinyHouseHomestead 2 дні тому +1

      It also just happened on my last video, I put the video on, it went upto I believe 385, then an hour later went down 245! I have lost thousands of views by this and not to mention how many I have lost because UA-cam cutoff my videos (throttled)! And, there is no way to get assistance to find out why! There is no avenue for dispute! 😱🤯😁🤪😝🤣👍👍🇺🇸

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +2

      When a video flatlines it's likely been viewed by the people who the algorithm thinks will watch it and then the wider audience sees the thumbnail and doent have any interest in it ....then it flatlines.

    Hey Dave I'm the guy from the catchahawg channel. Thanks for making these videos. Any tips for making daily blueberry farm activities interesting? I struggle with the titles, thumbnails, and the story on this channel lol

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +1

      Buddy, I don't know a thing about farming blueberries or making that subject the best it can be. Again I would research the daylights out of the subject on youtube's home page and see where the interest is. Good luck

    • @FarminNStuff
      @FarminNStuff 2 дні тому

      @ I guess I misspoke. It’s not really about blueberry farming due to that being seasonal. Mainly I fix broken stuff, trap or hunt things that eat our chickens or destroy our blueberry bushes like pigs and raccoons. There’s always something to do when you own a piece of land but making those things interesting is where I struggle. I’m definitely going to try to implement your techniques for editing. Hopefully you will be doing some more vids on how to tell better stories lol

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  День тому +1

      Look for the heart and soul of an idea......For example, if you're trapping coons to keep them from the chickens.....a title like "catching coons on the farm" doesn't have the same visceral reaction as a title like " How to save chickens from Preditors". Just an example

    I do have a thought on this. I watch a few firewood/chainsaw/log splitter channels and it seems they go against what you are saying and they seem quite successful. They pretty much just show cutting and splitting wood with a few comments thrown in. Maybe it’s channel loyalty. What’s your thoughts on that?

    • @davewhipplevideo
      @davewhipplevideo  2 дні тому +1

      I would have to see the specific video....if a channel has a million subs and gets 100k views on a log splitter video that might seem realy good but it may be just 10 % of that channels subs watched it ...so maybe it was channel loyalty.

    So I have two subjects I make content with on my UA-cam channel one is motorcycles and the other is mountain biking, sometimes one subject does better then the other but I love both of them and even combined them together. So I’ve had my channel for three years now it hasn’t growing much 240 subs

    • @davewhipplevideo

      Do 2 channels. I love motorcycles. Fortnine is one of my favorite channels ......once in a while they do a mountain bike video and I turn the channel. The two subjects don't have a lot of overlap.
