@@allgoodinthebrotherhoodDear Brother, thank you for bringing this to us - here in Manchester U.K. and in my native Ireland, having worked in supermarket retailing for 30 years, coming from an Irish Rural Catholic background, the season of Christ’s Birth has been ruined by rampant over-commercialism and ever since Covid, I have especially found this rather tedious and tiresome, where we supermarket workers are too tired to do anything else when we get home after dealing with crowds of abusive customers all day up to 5pm on Christmas Eve - in my 23 years living in the U.K. and especially since Covid, even after Covid restrictions were lifted, it was still the case that travelling home to family in Ireland from the U.K. has become virtually impossible and much more expensive

Hello Brother Francisco. Happy Christmas from Montreal. (Back in the day) when I was a young seminarian, Christmas was beautiful. Some of the seminarians had beautiful voices, and our chapel was a Cruciform architecture and the main altar sat in crossing. The seating was in the nave and the transepts. (Where the confessionals sat) We had silent retreat in the days prior to Christmas, and then prayers began on Christmas Eve. The music was heavenly, and sacred. Including the liturgy of the hours, midnight mass on Christmas Eve then the Christmas Mass. In between, if we were local (Which I was) we could go home to our home parishes and celebrate mass there with our congregations. The tradition was (on Christmas Eve) to put our shoes outside our rooms. (We had double rooms - 2 person rooms) And the Rector would leave simple gifts IN or ON our shoes. And I kid you not, some seminarians got Lumps of COAL, in their shoes !! It was musically and liturgically Festive. Not as much as the monastery there, because we shared a refectory with the high school on the same grounds. That was a great memory. Thank you for sharing the beauty of the Monastery, it is quite amazing for sure.
