Hi. I used mod podge on my clay art and dried it completely. The problem was that it became sticky and the clay piece would stick to the surface it touches and peels off like plastic. Please advise on what to to do with this. 😓 thank you.
leslie santos unfortunately mod podge is similar to the triple thick glaze that I used in that it is acrylic based. Which means that it is basically a plastic and can be affected by heat, water etc. Maybe if you use a spray acrylic like polycrylic sealer that might cure to a harder coat. I’m really not sure though as I haven’t tested it. Sorry this isn’t more help!
Pete Welninski you know I think I did try that when I used regular acrylics. When I used the multi-surface craft paints I didn’t have a problem. I have some pieces here- I’ll try testing them. 🙋🏼♀️
@@WellCraftedStudio yeah, its been frustrating. It peels right off. I even used a surface prep(Gesso) by Liquitex this last go round. No luck. I can send you pics of before and after if that helps
Hiba Ahmed so the glaze is basically plastic. I’m really not sure about how the candle would effect it. It would probably depend how close the flame is to it.
ryle u As far as I know there is no safe way to use air dry clay for beverages. Glazes are acrylic based which means they are both water and heat susceptible. Acrylic is basically a plastic and although it says it’s non-toxic to use it would not be food safe. Sorry! Traditional ceramics are kiln fired at a high temp and they become waterproof essentially. Then they’re glazed with what’s basically liquid glass and that’s fired at a super high temp. You just can’t get that with air dry clay as far as I know.
Hi! I love your UA-cam name. 😂 The glaze is clear and it is shiny when it dries as well. There are not different colors but you can use acrylic craft paints on the air dry clay and then, once they’ve dried you can glaze over the top.
Laura Collins you mean the triple thick? It’s not actually a resin. It’s an acrylic glaze. But you can apply it once the air dry clay has completely dried. If it still feels cool to the touch that means it’s still drying. I would think it would be okay to apply a resin at the same time.
I have a question are you able to paint with acrylic paint and then apply this gloss on top without ruining the design. I read a few reviews and they're mentioning not to apply the glass on painted work can you let me know please please thank you
unique wun I have painted with acrylic multi surface craft paint and then added the gloss. You have to let the multi surface paint dry thoroughly first. So give it maybe 24 hours before you apply the gloss coat after you paint. The problem I did have with acrylics is that the paint wanted to bond to the glaze more then the clay and would pull away slightly. That’s why you want to make sure the acrylic has bonded. And actually that may take a couple of weeks for it to completely cure. Then go ahead and glaze. It will not ruin your design though.

Vania Augustine hi! It totally depends on the clay you use. Once dry you should be able to scratch it, but not press into it. If so, there’s a couple of things to check. Clay body- If you’re using a plastic based clay like Crayola’s Model Magic you can totally push your nail into it. But if you’re using a mineral based clay like Crayola’s Air Dry Clay then you should be able to scratch it, but not push into it. It should dry completely within 24 hours to 1 week. Mine took about 3 days. It really depends on the rate of evaporation- so if you live somewhere pretty humid it will take longer for the water to condense out of the clay body. A good way to check is if it still feels cool to the touch. If it does, then it is still drying. If it is white and doesn’t feel cool then it should be dry. If this is the case and it still feels soft then there could be a problem with the clay. It’s important not to glaze it until it’s dried completely and then to let the glaze dry completely. The glaze is plastic based so the thicker you put it on (multiple coats) the more likely you’ll feel that when you try to push a nail into it instead of the support of the clay body underneath it. I hope that makes sense!

Maybe seal them loosely in a cardboard box? We have cat hair floating around most times (even after vacuuming) and I think putting the wet piece in a box after sealing might help.
It might not have been dried yet but it shouldn’t be peeling up. This glaze works best on plain clay- if it’s painted at all than the glaze wants to stick to the paint and pulls it away. Maybe that is the problem?
That would just soak in and wouldn't seal anything. But that's just my opinion.I guess it would matter what you were trying to get as a result. Hope that helps a little...
Brenda Lauren I’d say try it. You can always do the bottom of something. Nail polish is an acrylic lacquer. Just maybe a little more expensive if you end up using a lot of it. Great question!
Hi, I'm just starting and my first small plate cracked, it seems to be very soft and breakable, will that glaze make it harder? This air dry clay seems to be very easy to be damaged. Thank you for your video.
lovescotland it depends on the type of clay you use. If you’re using the crayola brand then it should not be soft. You may just need to let it dry more? The water evaporates out of the clay. The glaze will add a degree of hardness to the exterior of the clay but it won’t add much structurally If that makes sense. It does however keep it from surface marring. Does that help? I do have a lot more info in the blog post that’s linked in the show notes.

視V oh my goodness I missed this comment. I honestly have no I idea how it would do. Yes, it would make it easier to wipe out if you used just a damp cloth, as it is water-resistant. The problem with anything acrylic though is that it is water soluble at some level.

No- the manufacturer says “water-resistant” not waterproof and it is not food proof. I looked for one that was food proof and couldn’t find it. Most traditional ceramics have to be fired at an extremely high temp in a kiln to achieve that. Thanks for your comment!
Yes! It would by adding an extra layer of support. Especially if you let it dry between coats and applied multiple coats. However, it depends on how long and thin it is. You would still need to experiment, and the more coats would mean more brushstrokes so it might not be a clean clear glaze.

Well Crafted Studio Not really a great idea, especially on larger (thicker) pieces as this could cause them to crack badly. Putting them in a heat source (oven, sun, other warm/dry areas) can cause outer parts to dry (and shrink) faster than thicker inner parts which is exactly what makes the clay crack upon drying. Best to be patient and let it dry naturally in a cool dry'ish place. On really thick pieces (like sculptures) I've even seen it recommended to place cellophane wrap lightly over the piece for more uniform drying to minimalize cracking.

Hi please tell me can I make cup?
piece ofbud you can make a cup! But it will not be food safe with this product. I couldn’t find a brush on glaze that was food safe. I’ll keep looking and update this if I find one. Thanks for your comment! ❤️
Not only is air dry clay, and this glaze not food-safe, putting liquid in it would ruin it. This is not the kind of clay you'd want for cups/plates.
Yup, @Amy Davis you’re right! When I was answering the question I was thinking that yes, air dry clay it is physically capable of making a cup shaped object. But I should have called out that you absolutely cannot use it as a cup. Which does kind of defeat the purpose of creating a cup shaped object. 🤦🏼♀️
Anyone else come form mumbo jumbo?
At least 5-6 people- I’m kind of confused as to why a Minecraft guy would send people to my channel.
I thought it was a bot so I deleted them. Although one said that Mumbo said he was sorry. 🤷🏼♀️
@@WellCraftedStudio "when i first made my youtube chanel i was gonna call it "Crafted studios", or something along those lines... and that would not go well....
I appologies to anyone whos chanel is named crated studios. It just sounds a little bit too official for someone who spends most of this Hermitcraft season as a potato" /MJ :DDDDD
And the madlatd actually searched for it!! EPIC.
@@lcrowkins3528 ha! Awesome. I was so confused- and really was curious how I was getting all these MJ comments. I searched, and thought no way was some Minecraft guy mentioning my crafting channel. But it makes sense now. Thanks for the explanation. And congrats on having some real go-getters in your fan-base.
@@WellCraftedStudio yeah sorry 😅😅
Can you glaze over acrylic paint?
ancient comment but yes you can
Is it okay if i paint on it after the glaze dries? And is it okay if i use enamel paint?
I know I’m late, but I would paint the air dry clay first THEN glaze it for the best results!
