    The DTU is only required to set the grid profile IF your utility requires it to be set. Some don't require it. The DTU is not required to make the inverter operate. Just connect 1 panel and the 240VAC, and in 5 minutes you'll see the green LED flashing. It is then producing power. They are very DIY friendly, "ENERGY FOR ALL". I help DIYers with engineering support, stamped plans, Hoymiles microinverters, panels, and racking. Mostly I'm the guy you call when you have questions. I'm here to help and happy to do it! If you want a pre-set grid profile to avoid the DTU, I can do that too. Thank you for letting me post this.

      So you mean it is really not necessarily to install also the dtu?

    • @ToddDesiato
      @ToddDesiato 3 місяці тому

      @@dilan2842 That is correct. It will start and operate without a DTU, provided the grid is present for 300 sec.

      @@ToddDesiato thank you... except in monitoring, what else the purpose of dtu?

    Aptos is selling theirs as Hoymiles too. I'm not sure what's best, just buying Hoymiles directly, or going with the Aptos branded version. Someone else pointed out Duracell is doing the same thing. How about CT's? With Enphase you've got the Envoy (or Combiner with the gateway) and it has the ability to connect CTs.

    Warranty vs enphase?

    I read on hoymiles they have a 6-1 inverter

      Not available in North America yet, but it's coming, along with an off-grid microinverter in a year or so. Next month, I should have the new Hybrid Battery inverters available, up to 11.6kVA.

    How did you identify positive and negative DC terminals when connecting your panels to the inverter

    • @DiySolarHelpDesk

      It's labeled on the front of the inverter.

    Nice video. Why at first did you install it upside down?

    • @solargoat
      @solargoat  Рік тому +2

      The inverter is really heavy, I wanted to install the bracket higher up on the rail but realized depending on the thinness of the panel frame it would make contact. It will definitely depend on the thickness of the rail or type of install.

      @@solargoat I think in all cases, the microinverter and optimizer vendors only advise 'shinny side up' to reflect the heat and let the air flow beneath cool the black bottom. In addition to it possibly not clearing the panel if flipped over, you'd be putting the inverter closer to the panel and the heat source. Pretty sure warranty would be voided if mounted that way.

    • @DiySolarHelpDesk
      @DiySolarHelpDesk 10 місяців тому

      @@billjohnson3344 Don't mount them upside down. Add a spacer to lift them up off the roof. The fins need exposure to airflow, and you don't want to transfer the heat to the panel. For maximum performance, your racking and panels should be at least 5 inches above the roof.

    That’s nice but I think Hoymiles will remain as a DIY unless they offer the same one shop experience and long warranty as Enphase.

    2:05 looks like old enphase splice

    • @DiySolarHelpDesk
      @DiySolarHelpDesk 10 місяців тому

      Don't let the looks fool you. These have UL1741SB with export and grid control using a WattNode meter. I replaced my IQ8+ inverters with the HMS-2000-4T-NA, and increased the output of my system by 30%, thanks to no clipping. Enphase likes clipping which is fine if your utility has limits to the maximum AC power, but if you're not near the limit, clipping is just killing the efficiency and ROI of the system.
