- Today we talk about what is Warhammer 40k , the lore and why people generally shy away from the Warhammer universe because it is so large. As a beginner I went through the effort of researching the lore to try and give a point of view from someone that didn't know a lot about warhmmer and Space marines ,to try to get the point across it's not that scary but very interesting. Some things we go over involve the emperor of mankind , space marine chapters , the horus heresy , the imperium of man and the hierarchy like guardsmen. I also talk about the chaos gods , orks and guardsmen . But this is just the tip of the iceberg in this video , go out and explore this great franchise and its gruesome stories .

Just to clarify a small point :
The emperor does not maintain the webway open, it maintain the one he made closed for it is invaded by demons and must therefore remain closed at all time. At the same time, he power the astronomican, a ray of light shining through the stars and the warp and who allow navigators (human with the third eyes) to navigate within the warp, the other dimension in wich chaos god (and other bad stuff) lives.
Basically, he act as a lighthouse and a wall.
My favorite part was when Horus got the 40,000th Warhammer.

If you zoom out, there isn’t a lot you need to know to get what’s going on in warhammer 40k. There are only like 7 main events you need to know about
Any universe that has quotes like "the planet broke before the guard did" is automatically cool.
I want to get more into the lore book wise, any recommendations?

Word of advice for people who want to get into the setting. Start off with very broad topics in the setting such as general factions with explanations of their motives, and once you find a piece of lore that you really like and then expand your knowledge on that.
I did this and now I own an Adeptus Sororitas army (Sisters of Battle) for 40k, and play alpha legion (20th legion of space marine) for the spinoff called horus heresy
The White Scars are the greatest space marine legion/chapter in the entire setting
Old WH40K fan here. I dig the video, and I'm glad you are diving into the setting. Just one point of contention (yeah, just one, considering I'm a 40k fan that should help put you at ease for the novel I'm about to write).
The "childhood friend," while she may be "canon" now, she did not exist a mere 5 years ago. That's 30 years or so of lore washed away by one author. The character was very one sided, and her injection into the lore made the Emperor look like a complete moron. And not just any moron, the biggest moron to have ever existed, and the evilest moron to boot.
Most people that I know that still pay attention to WH40K consider everything after the introduction of the Primaris marines to be corporate fan-fiction at best, which makes trying to explain this setting to new fans really painful for people who genuinely like(d) the setting. It *was* story-rich to the Nth degree. Now it is very, very shallow and relies on the momentum of old stories and lore to cover up the absolute cluster that is the writing and universe of modern day 40K. The "mother" of the primarchs (who has *NEVER* been mentioned before she was thrown into the universe in a single book for "reasons") is just the tip of the unfortunate iceberg of degradation.
I mean what I said. She was never mentioned even once. Not for dozens of novels, not for hundreds of issues of magazines, or interviews with the people at GW prior to her suddenly appearing. Her induction into the lore basically flipped the entire mythos of who the Emperor is, and who the Primarchs are, on its ear. For DEI bullshit virtue signaling. She's the fucking "Holdo Maneuver" of the 40K universe.
Shortly after her arrival, we had a mechanicus deciding to go by "zi/zir" pronouns, because she had lost all attachment to gender. So yeah, identity politics and diversity equity and inclusion in the year 40,999. In a universe full of rape-demons and planet-devouring bugs and endless war. Sure.
It's actually too bad that people are getting into it *now* and not like 5 years ago, or earlier. I think it really hit its peak around 2019. It's all downhill from here though.
Wouldn't it be crazy if they gave the Emperor something like, i don't know , a text to speech device?

Yes, I was living under a rock and didn't use the internet at all before I was 16. I still knew about Warhammer 40k because I bought a pirated disk with Dawn of War 1 and a bunch of other 40k PC games.
I couldn't get licensed games, Steam didn't exist yet(Or I didn't know about it), so the pirated games were all I had access to.

Nice seeing someone exploring 40K for the first time, you got a lot of things right but the webway part was just strait up wrong it’s not a part of the warp but a whole other dimension used by the Eldar for FTL travel. Emperor had a webway project during the Horus Heresy but it got fucked up by one of his sons (fuck Magnus he did everything wrong) but what the Emperor is doing now is powering the Astronomicon wich is basically a psychic lighthouse wich serves as a reference point for ships traveling in the warp and without its light humans would lose the ability to travel through the warp fucking up the entire Imperium

also sorry to burst you're bubble bus the Orks can't actually make what they believe come true. Were made by things called "the old ones" during the "war on heaven" where they were attacked by the freshly made necron forces and their C'tan buddies(they are space vampires that feed on stars but they betrayed the Necrons so now the necrons use their shattered bodies and souls as batteries) so in self defence the old ones made and used the eldar (space elves who accidentally made a portal thought the warp called the eye of terror and the chaos god Slanesh who their masochists now gets power from) and the Korks, who were powerful, self producing warriors who had ludicrous designs for weapons and technology encoded into their genes, and overtime the Korks de-volved into the Orks
