    Ben is English, but he could as well be Italian by the amount of times that he moves his hands to speak hahaha 🤣 I love how passionate he is when he’s talking about something important to him.
    Jenn is a queen and nothing else to say.

    That intro!! What an adorable idea. Loved that you guys wrapped up with importance of deep breathing. I start yoga during the beginning of the pandemic and it made me realize how shallow my breathing is day to day and how healing it can be to just take a few deep breaths throughout the day. Really loving the mentality and mindset you guys are spreading!

      Hey Jocelyn! That's amazing you're into yoga and understand the value in breathing. It's literally life changing. If you haven't already check out Wim Hof, he's the one that that helped science understand that breathing can heal the body

    Hi Ben and Jenn, I feel the need to say this as someone who is like the first asker and suffers from depression. I can understand why both your responses are motivational and positive, but lately I've been tired of folks giving this advice to those suffering from mental illnesses. I believe we all need to know what our limits are in helping others and redirect folks to more sustainable, suitable resources.
    Depression is a sickness in the brain, and those who suffer from it need professional medical/psychiatric help. It is torturous to me to tell someone to just force themselves to do something or to change their negative perspective. Firstly, this sort of advice fuels further dismissal of how serious this mental illness is and should be addressed professionally. Secondly, those who suffer have heard all the motivational talk before, and to make them think pure willpower can solve their problems long term is disingenuous. They are not factoring the issues in their brain nor that it "takes a village" to heal. In many of our cases we are not therapists, psychologists, or psychiatrists and we should leave the work for professionals unless patients explicitly say they want casual, personal advice.
    I understand that Ben and Jenn did clarify that they are not professionals, but I wish they had emphasized the importance of seeing a professional or calling a hotline early on in the video. I also understand that they are showing that they care, and that is way more heartening to see than no video at all.

    • @feeyawn
      @feeyawn 2 роки тому +2

      yes i was just going to say that the "think positive" "get into the mindset of gratefulness" almost dismisses depression because it not that depressed people don't know that. Sometimes when you're in the fog of depression, it's almost impossible to think positive. That is toxic positivity. If depressed people could just stop thinking about it just like that, they would already. Depression can happen to anyone, regardless of who they are and what they have i.e.how much they have to be "grateful" for. That being said, I'm not shitting on them this is just a PSA to anyone out there

    • @adgecy
      @adgecy 2 роки тому

      @@feeyawn Thank you for your reply! I know what you mean by "toxic positivity." Maybe those feel good phrases help someone who's sad, but not someone who is depressed. I'm relieved I didn't get any hate about my comment and a few likes instead. I hope that we can share adequate resources to our loves ones and continue to be trusted by them

    ⇩ on motivation & negativity
    ❖ your consciousness is your reality
    ❖ negativity sells
    ❖ gratitude will set you in motion
    ❖ you can curate your law of attraction
    ⇩ on confronting sadness and heavy emotions
    ❖ find the person in your life that has *deserved* to hear you out
    ❖ write; be present with your thoughts (it helps you parse it out)
    ❖ be conscious about the tone you speak/ think to yourself with
    ❖ difference between complaining and just opening-up
    ⇩ on success
    ❖ success is subjective, comes from within
    ❖ catch yourself when you're comparing yourself ((we all do it))
    ❖ how you see the world isn't how it is, it's how you are
    ❖ confidence is knowing yourself and owning it
    ⇩ on stress
    ❖ happens when you feel unprepared/ you're going through change
    ❖ fight negative thought patterns (they're not who you are)
    ❖ the body doesn't know the difference between thought and reality
    ❖ listen to your body, be present with it -- breath-work, meditation, walk. take a step back.
    ❖ stress is familiar and addictive
    this was a goldmine of healthy principles to live by! thank you two for sharing your experiences & wisdom with us.
    i found these lessons so challenging to learn myself, and it takes a *conscious* effort to regularly practice too. i think it's the first thing to be aware of the changes we need to make within ourselves-- and another to put them into consistent practice.
    progress isn't linear either, so we ought to be kind and pay attention to our bodies and minds when we fall "off-track".
    hope everyone has a beautiful, mindful day

    Like you guys said, i feel like it is soo important to kind of trigger warn someone you are about to spill emotion to. Sometimes people aren’t prepared emotionally/mentally to take on the baggage of others and thus aren’t well equipped in the moment to hear or respond to you with care and understanding. That initial check in of “hey are you in the head space to talk about something heavy?” Is extremely important!
