- It's been awhile, but let's finally sit down and talk about some BALISONG DRAMA once again, in today's video we'll discuss two different situations that went down recently, one revolving around one of my roommates at blade show allegedly having his fellowship blades medusa stolen from him, and a another scenario where a really REALLY dumb and unnecessary argument between two creators resulted in a group of people in the community bullying and harassing another member of the community.

Will say I purchased a spiral kraken off PYRO for 320$ on a one month layaway of 2 payments. He claimed it was mint brand new. Turns out the blade was swapped because all spiral Kraken has serial #’s this one did not. Once I received the knife and went to double check the pivots and tolerances I see one pivot completely and utterly stripped, and if you tighten the pivots even the slightest amount it completely binds on both handles. So it had a blade swap and was never tuned. Wouldn’t return anything more than 60$ on the knife. I now am sending it to squid for him and once they receive it to tune it and send back to PYRO he will refund my money. Kinda ridiculous IMO. Embarrassing I didn’t know that it should have numbers but he should have known that too!!

Unfortunately I pretty much lost interest in balisongs and flipping because of all the bullshit and hurtful DMs I was getting for exclusively flipping trainers. I tried not to let it affect me, but it was just too hard. Which sucks because then I saw your comment on my Opus video, which was cool since you’re my favorite Balisong youtuber. Almost every side of each situation is so silly. Denny, your breakdown of Jack's behavior towards Chel is spot on. I knew of the situation, but seeing the breakdown again really shows how silly it is. The harassments that Chel received was completely uncalled for and baffling, even if Chel has done some questionable things too.
Pyro and Lycan's situation is also incredibly silly, and a very small amount of communication and transparency would have cleared so much of that situation up. But both sides of it are left with questions (far more on Lycan's side than Pyro's, Lycan definitely got the short end of the stick there), and roping it into being your fault (Denny) without proof is ridiculous.
Lastly, I'll say that taking these ultimately small situations between only a few people, two of which chose to make it very public, and then implying the whole community is toxic and the idea of getting into it is "the most unappealing thing imaginable" seems like a huge leap to make based on just a few people going at each other. Shining a light on that problematic behavior can be good to a certain extent, but we shouldn't make the rest of the community guilty by association and treat everyone like they're toxic.
The overwhelming majority of this hobby are solid people that aren't looking to step on anyones toes and just want to enjoy the hobby. The negative and dramatic people are the loudest, but in the extreme minority. There are tens of thousands of people a part of this community that rarely post and rarely interact with people that don't want to cause trouble or be dramatic.
I empathize with the frustration though for sure, this behavior all around sucks to see, and isn't good for the hobby, especially with the state things are in currently.

I'm only tangentially interested in balisongs, but in the knife community there's this dumb "kumbiya" type thing where everyone likes to pretend that being into the same hobby as you automatically makes a person not a scumbag.
It enables (encourages, really) a ton of low/no-effort scamming.
Pyro shipped me a knife the exact same way!! No security for the knife in the box at all!!!!!
I think there will be a follow up video. DenDen vs everyone mentioned in this video. I have a feeling they will all defend their arguments and just cause more controversy. Not what I want to see from this community, but boy would that be entertaining.

I have left the community due to my local North Carolina scene being very emotionally immature and negative. I still flip on my own, just learning from myself now and I love it even MORE. So happy I have this hobby, just staying out the noise. I’ll come back one day and drop a hard ass flipping post but that’ll be it

For real though both of these situations seem extremely messed up and it is sad to see from such big names in the community. I hope that they can use this as a learning opportunity to grow as people so that we can all make this community and better and more inviting place to flip our fidget toys. 🙏❤

Flipping, collecting, and making videos of my collection is my hobby. I do high effort stuff with my interviews with makers because they deserve it, but it's not in my time budget to do big editing for my first impressions or review videos. And as I have and will always say, if you don't like it, don't watch it! I do it for me, because I like doing it! So I appreciate you having my back on that.

Regarding the chel and jack situation, Jack's first comment was kinda unnecessary and dumb, but he can freely express anything he wants to say. Chel's response was warranted and completely understandable. After that, taking it to DMs and the POSTING the dms publicly is extremely childish, and shows a complete lack of self control, aswell as an inflated ego.
Needless to say the people who attack chel for simply being transgender are horrendously uneducated, close minded, and childish. I wish nothing but the best for everyone involved, including hoping these people learn what they're doing wrong and make some progress to be a better person, and be an adult.
Denden is on the correct side here. There's no arguing that transphobia and unnecessary gatekeepy arguments are justified.
I do not support transphobes, but I also do not wish harm. I just hope they decide to learn what they're doing wrong and become a more tolerable person :)

I just flip casually and i'm not even in the balisong community. Shame to see it's like this, seems to be the case with a lot of "chronically online" niche hobbies like balis, mechanical keyboards, audiophile equipment, etc.

I have personally been called shit so much in the balisong community after only being a year into the hobby (some even by jack). my first impressions of him is that he is a self centered kid with so many insecurities that he has to take out his anger on others. its just not cool.

I think everyone was an asshole in the Chel and Jack drama. Jack got heated and made unnecessary comments, and Chel needs to stop using her age as a way to dismiss criticism. I wouldn't call someone a kid just because they took issue with something I did and I happen to be older than them, that's some "respect your elders" dismissal type nonsense. Jack should have seen the transphobia coming, but he also did still condemn the harassment when he saw it, so I'm not willing to put the blame for that on his shoulders. You can't control the actions of your followers, only discourage their behavior and condemn it, which he did.
I don't actually know how old Jack is, I called him a child because I thought it was incredibly immature of him to push it publicly by starting to subtweet me on his story because he didn't like how I received his "calm (unsolicited) feedback"

Anyone that thinks they're a big fish in the balisong community should realize they're just a minnow in the ocean of social influencers. I'm fairly new to balisongs, and not a great flipper. I enjoy collecting knives and balisongs. I enjoy learning to flip, enjoy watching great flippers and novices. If you're enjoying the hobby and want to keep enjoying it, probably best to not criticize others. Advice on how to improve is fine and should be welcomed. If someone acts like a dick, I'll just avoid watching their content.
This is why I only focus on the hobby and not the community 👍

I did get a bit too heated I’ll admit it but I had a lot on my chest that I really needed to get out of my mind I did choose to sleep in the closet but that’s mostly because I didn’t want to sleep on an already broken couch and be accused of breaking it more so while I chose to sleep in that closet it was still pretty sad but again it was my choice but still considering I was accused of all this other stuff I didn’t want to be accused of more stuff than that sure the first night I wasn’t accused of anything but still at that time I didn’t want to be accused of stuff but in the end I still was accused of stuff anyway but that’s the end of this I haven’t spoken to pyro I have my knife back I was very picky about the damage but when I have put many hours into getting the edge perfect and removing enough material from the blade to get the balance perfect for me and to see chips in the edge I’m gonna get pretty upset but that’s the end of that I did go further than I intended in that video I’ll be honest but I also have a very short fuse and am very quick to anger just so everyone knows no that’s not an excuse it’s just a sad fact that I’ve had to deal with for a long time but that’s whatever again not an excuse now as for that bath if k___sauce and bear are down I guess I’ll give it a shot wasn’t too big of a fan the first time but I’ll give it another shot 😂

I've tried to watch the video to some degree and I've dealt with Chel myself and I'll admit there are some people in the community that really come off too strongly towards others, but you did go on to exhibit and practice the very behavior you're trying to condemn towards the rant portion with Chel. I think it's okay to have some grievances towards others if they're doing too much, but don't get lost in the sauce becoming exactly what you're trying to point out and not see that you're kinda adopting it, too. Chel is good people to deal with and that commentary directed toward her was super unwarranted, just don't get too caught up in your emotions and defence that you inadvertently become what you're trying to advocate against.
In no part of this video did I exhibit transphobia. If you go out of your way to be intentionally cruel to someone from a marginalized community, then you do not deserve to be spoken to or treated nicely.
@@DenDenBMX it's not the transphobia you put on display, but in your rant in a video about "bullying" you yourself started using demeaning and belittling language yourself to address and speak of the people you had issue with. There's nothing wrong with pointing them out as problematic or anything, but it doesn't come off as good if you're trying to point out bullying then proceed to do it yourself in a rant addressing them. My point is it's harder to hear you out on your points if you yourself match their energy and can't look in the mirror hard enough to see it, or in this case, don't care to hold yourself to a similar standard and justify it on your end and be a hypocrite.

1. Go to a public event while she knew she had covid
2. Vents/rants about her divorce to really young kids which like ok its not that bad but its still weird
3. Allgedly her nickname in a server with mostly kids is "mommy chel" which again not that bad but still really weird
4. Has in the past called people transphobic for (justly) critising her for stuff like not being a good reviewer if you can only do very basic tricks because then you cant really grasp how a knife flips to others, just yourself

I was looking forward to Blade Show 2025 and meeting all these content creators, now I’m gonna have to second guess who I would want to associate myself with and actually want to meet. 🤔

That being said, I genuinely don’t understand the defense behind this. Was Jack an asshole randomly calling out Chel for this outta nowhere? Yeah kinda. But at the same time, I don’t get how you can get some sort of overall impression with a Balisong using just a few tricks. Now, if it’s genuinely just something like a CCC that can’t even Chaplin halfway decent, then I understand. But time and time again I see this logic where just because something is less-than-great at a few tricks that would go against the balance profile, it’s suddenly not good overall. Also, I just don’t understand how you can say something with heavy tip weight, blade bias, and slippery handles is not good at fanning. But that’s just me ig
It's not possible to get an overall opinion on a balisong that way but you can definitely immediately feel if you like it or not just by doing some fanning, chaps and ladders. It's enough to say if you initially like it or not. And it's also true that it often changes when you spend more time with a bali

ok but that’s the problem. Chel is a reviewer and thus has a responsibility to learn more tricks to accurately gauge if something is “good” or not in a review style format (notice how I put quotes around good; don’t make me get into semantics).
It’s an asshole move to call it out to bluntly but honestly it’s a problem I’ve had with not just Chel, but Brandon Baker and a few others DenDen pointed out in the vid. But even Brandon has Will and enough time behind a Balisong to point out actual thoughts. Chel literally unboxes something and gives a review the same day. Ethan (CamaroEE/Blade Bias) used to be guilty of the same thing before he took the initiative to BE BETTER. And believe it or not, he knows now that his first impression vids can be wildly different from official reviews/second impressions and so on.
At the end of the day, no matter how much of an asshole Pyro was, he’s right. It’s not gatekeepy to say that if you’re spending thousands of dollars and making review style vids, then maybe you can try to improve at flipping before making review style content around it.
Also idk I just have a problem with how DenDen tacked on all these other people like Jack personally sent them out to be his little goonies or something against Chel. He made a mistake making this whole thing bigger than it needed to be but gaddamn this community needs to learn things are not so black and white.

I thought I should drop this comment just to shed light onto why Chel is hated in the community other than people being weirdly transphobic.
People dislike chelwong because they scalp balis obviously as mentioned in the vid. But also tries to take advantage of people who are obviously beginners/lack knowledge of the market by sending them low balls or bad trade offers to make more money.
Jack definitely still needs to apologize and take accountability for sending the mob after chel. But taking advantage of people for quick cash also leaves a bad taste in alot of people's mouths.

Scalping has evolved over the years with people using bots to buy up large amounts of desirable items like the great PlayStation 5 Scalpening of a few years ago, but you can still participate in scalping even if it's only one item. For example, if I were to list my copy of Super Mario 3D All Stars for like, $80 or something on Ebay, I would be scalping that game. Just because I only have one of them doesn't mean it isn't still scalping.

i was in a vc with jack (who was screen sharing) when a lot of that happened. for instance, jared sent that to jack first and asked if he should send it to chel. jack IMMEDIATELY REPLIED "jesus christ dude no"
and literally on jack's story, he was saying "please dont harass her"
and i think jack's criticism was entirely warranted. chel has been known to just crank out daily upload videos reviewing knives and literally spreading misinformation for over a year now. which is actually a problem, and not just something that ppl should "not watch if they dont like"

and the divorce thing was weird because it was happening A LOT in discord servers. and not just "talking" about her divorce, but like wallowing and venting about it. in discord servers with a ton of children. including one where her username was set to "mommy chel"
@vavorr I'm weirded out by the lack of accountability. I'm weirded out by people thinking being called a child is at all comparable to the vitriol jack spewed at chel over content she has every right to make, that literally no one is forced to watch, and the transphobia that followed. He only said anything until after it started happening, If jack actually wanted to be "proactive" he would've started with saying he doesn't condone transphobia or harassment. Which would have cleared him of any accusation of being transphobic, and of any transphobic actions that others may have taken.

My problem with Jack was he was freaking out and publicly exploding on Chel over weird gatekeepy stuff that really just does not matter in the grand scheme of things, which then gave some less-thans the green light to go and be openly transphobic. I don't believe Jack is transphobic, but his actions did lead to Chel getting bullied for being trans.
