Well, to be fair, I rediscovered this show. I'm 26 years old and my mom used to watch this series as a kid. She's the same age as Melissa Gilbert and she learned how to speak English because of this TV series. It's one of those gems of a show that wasn't redubbed in Tagalog language here in the Philippines back in the 70's and they would show it almost weekly at that time on the local TV channel. She's more than happy to know that my generation highly appreciates and still watches this show. It's a perfect way for a millenial and a 50+ baby boomer to bond this pandemic and I have to thank Michael Landon for that.
I wish we still lived in days like that. Wholesome, decent, Godly people who loved their neighbor and they all went to church together. That was the good ole days!
The good ole days... When people of certain races were not treated well and were not paid the same wages even with the same level of education, intelligence, and experience.
The writers kept her a kid for too long. She looked alot younger than him. Height difference and she was tiny in shape. She was not developing quickly (no insult). We all develop at own pace. Her hair shouldve been up in the traditional bun to mark her maturity at this social not just when teaching. Lol i know if i had to wear an ankle length skirt all the time i would go nuts.
Tavullia Bella yes they were a decade apart I agree. However all the girl characters around her age were allowed to be grown up sooner: dressing mature, hair pulled up and wearing heels. The writers kept her looking juvenile for far too long. Nellie wasn't too much older and dressing womanly much sooner. Mary was only a few yrs younger yet Pa had no problem with her marrying at age 15 to John Sanderson. Mary wore heels at 15 and a mature dress. Almanzo couldnt see her as his equal when she dresses and looks like she can pass for his kid sister. I can see his hesitation in being careful not too seem like he is preying on her bec she looks SO much younger than him in looks and height. Even in heels she is still alot shorter than him. That was my point in my previous comment. He asked Eliza Jane in a roundabout manner if he was being inappropriate by liking her. "She's just a kid right" Eliza Jane said "no she's not".
@@tavulliabella8458 Not only in the book but in real life too. The real Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 and Almanzo in 1857. They married in 1885 when she was 18. They remained married for 64 years until his death in 1949 at 92. Laura died in 1957 at 90 years old. Their daughter Rose was born in 1886 and died in 1968.
When the real-life Laura and Almanzo were courting, it was not unusual for there to be a large age gap; Almanzo was 6 days less than 10 years older than Laura (February 13, 1857; Laura was born February 7, 1867). By the late-1970s, it was a much bigger deal. Melissa Gilbert was 16 when this episode first aired; Dean Butler was 23. When they had their first on-screen kiss, Melissa's mother was off-stage, apparently very upset and had to be consoled.

Thanks so much for sharing this! I am a HUGE fan of LHOTP...Laura and Almanzo were and still are my FAV couple on the show...that is, besides Ma and Pa Ingalls...lol
I just loved these two together up until their wedding. I guess my issue with how they were written afterwards was the idea that they both had such tempers and would argue so often, BUT they loved each other. The concept that a loving relationship would have so much anger and fighting wasn't quite healthy. There were a few times in Ma and Pa's relationship where they disagreed, but they were usually civil and respectful. I would like to see more of that with Almanzo and Laura. There was a ton of this in shows and movies, where fighting equals passion equals love. Not sure I like it in order to teach kids about adult relationships.
I liked that they didn't have the stereotypical cookie-cutter relationship. They argued, had fights, behaved childishly at times but ultimately loved each other more than anything. I think their relationship was more realistic than Charles' and Caroline's
It was a happy marriage for them till their death. Laid rest side by side... I started to write my life.jounals after I knew LTHOP was Laura"s diaries made into books.. how wonderful
Laura and Charles' conversation on the way home on Laura's birthday always reminds me of my Dad and I. I don't always talk about it right away, but I can tell him anything. I've always talked to him about the guys in my life or even the guys I hoped to ultimately be a part of my life. I can relate, and it always makes me smile.
Almamzo will be her future husband And I love Charles has a relationship with his Laura She will be marrying almamzo I like Charles he is a good father
Hmm "I don't believe a girl should be married until she's 18"...? I seem to remember the exact same character telling a love struck Mary she couldn't marry until she was 15... XD lol I love this show...
I dont know how much time passed between this final episode and the new season but Laura looks so much more grown up in the first episode of the new season
What a beautiful scene of Lara and Almanzo together for their first kiss. Good dialogue and talented actors. What a treat to be able to see this episode again.
When Wilder was 25 years old and Ingalls was age 15, the two began courting. Wilder would drive Ingalls back and forth between De Smet and a new settlement 12 miles (19 km) outside town where she was teaching school and boarding. Then, when spring came, they would go for long buggy rides. Three years later, on August 25, 1885, Wilder and Ingalls were married
Charles: A girl shouldn't get married until she's 18 . How come in "I'll Ride The Wind" ,he was going to let Mary get married to John Sanderson Jr. when she turned 15. In "The Wedding " Mary was around 16 she married Adam . (I guess this second one is a special circumstance) Either way, I LOVE this episode!!
I agree. Why was everything Mary did a younger age ok and when Laura wanted to she was too young. 1 theory I had is that Mary had her heart broken by john Sanderson when he was cheating on her at college. Maybe Charles didnt want Laura to experience the same anguish at 15 that Mary did so he figured let Laura wait a few yrs
Michael Landon’s acting in these Almanzo scenes was beyond words. How he managed the most perfectly hysterical facial expressions every time… it adds so much to the scene. I miss this show.

During the filming the sweet sixteen episode it was Laura and almonzo first kiss. Well during filming of the first kiss scene Melissa's mother was having crying episodes seeing her daughter kiss for the first time. They had to make her leave the area so they can get the shot done. If you wanted to know how I knew about that info. It was Melissa or maybe it was Dean who gave an interview. Talking about what happened during shooting of that scene.
Was Dean Butler who said it on an interview with the cast years later 😊 I swear, I was just turned 16 and I was so excited my family thought I was silly. All those Harlequin novels made me a romantic 😊 or was it the Barbara Cartland novels, lol?
I liked Laura better as a little girl/child. She was always feisty but as she grew up she just got kind of annoying like getting upset over the smallest things, arguing with Almanzo all the time and yelling at her students. I’d say season 6-8 was bad for Laura. Season 9 she finally lightened up and stopped getting upset all the time. Maybe cus she quit teaching
@@joannross8412 yes I thought the same thing. Maybe Melissa was so uncomfortable with playing a wife at her age that it was easier for her to bicker with Dean butler than to have to kiss him all the time but I agree Laura was not very nice to him later
This is a sweet love story between laura and almanzo. They stick together especially when almanzo had a stroke and was bitter not excited about the birth of baby rose. He had to learn how to walk again. He made a full recovery and laura and almanzo grew even closer.
the best of the sweet 16 would be when she comes out of the school and almanzo sees her as a older for the first time, when almanzo barges into the schoolroom and punches the young boy... that should have been on there
She was not a woman. You mentioned the guy being a young boy, so why do you think she should be seen as a woman? Lots of men like to think that girls are women when they are not.
I think the real life Laura was seen as a woman at 16 and ready to marry at 18. That was largely because she could do a woman's work as the wife of a farmer.
I always had a crush on Michael Landon, even as a little girl. I'm a lady, not a guy. It's funny, too, Charles' facial expression when Laura gave Almanzo her answer about the church social!!!! 😂😂😂

I swear, Charles is so handsome.
I feel like an alien in a foreign world in 2018. I grew up with this show and cherish it to this day. Do not the values and sentiments expressed in this show have any meaning in todays dichotomous world?
I’m 16 but this show raised me up
relax bro
I'd rather have the right to vote.
There's always the Amish!
@@Michelle-pn9xtWhat does ALL that even mean or got to do with LHOTP??! 🤔
My favorite episode. And the one part where he added way too much sugar to his tea and went out the front door to go to bed. So lost in love
Dina Mule in the novel Laura is 10 years younger than Almanzo. So when Laura is 16 Almanzo is 26. A young teenage with an adult man.
Dina Mule agreed with you in that point
@@tavulliabella8458 Not only in the book but in real life too. The real Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 and Almanzo in 1857. They married in 1885 when she was 18. They remained married for 64 years until his death in 1949 at 92. Laura died in 1957 at 90 years old. Their daughter Rose was born in 1886 and died in 1968.

I LOVE how much Charles is laughing
Charles' laugh is everything! It's adorable! 💙
I loved almanzo! He was so cute and sweet
When they had their first on-screen kiss, Melissa's mother was off-stage, apparently very upset and had to be consoled.
her mom was uncomfortable? I heard that Melissa herself wasn't comfortable either
Melissa was very uncomfortable with the kissing scene herself especially since she had never kissed anyone on or offscreen.
@@jennywaldrop9864 which is understandable. it's weird that ppl think everyone must be comfortable w/ everything but if you're young usually you're new at it
@@oooh19 Yeah. I am sure that this teenager had never kissed a grown man. That would not be a good thing if she had done that. Hopefully, he was not involved with teenagers in real life.
@@Michelle-pn9xt yea the show took place in the 1800s so it's obviously different
I get goosebumps every time I see the scene where Almanzo and Laura first kiss. Melissa Gilbert was 15 and she’d never been kissed, so she was really nervous.
This is where my Mom got name from
So special!
Laura is a very lovely name.
I started to write my life.jounals after I knew LTHOP was Laura"s diaries made into books.. how wonderful
would be kinda boring if all the show's couples had the same type of relationship, huh? :-p
This is the best thing to ever watch
Christina Wilks this show is amazing! I love it.
I don't know who is more handome, Charles or Almanzo ha
Some brilliant acting in this!
Caroline is sooo beautiful..
Almamzo will be her future husband
And I love Charles has a relationship with his Laura
She will be marrying almamzo
I like Charles he is a good father
I see this film every day and like it very much .I live in Iran
Hmm "I don't believe a girl should be married until she's 18"...?
I seem to remember the exact same character telling a love struck Mary she couldn't marry until she was 15...
XD lol I love this show...
S Brunning hmmm double standards, eh?
It might have something do with the age difference.
**Spoiler**
Plus, Mary’s fiancé before she married Adam cheated on her so that might be a factor
@@madisonlewe1057 Are you talking about John Jr?
I dont know how much time passed between this final episode and the new season but Laura looks so much more grown up in the first episode of the new season
A favorite episode. 🙂❤
Aww, Almanzo is so sweet & respectful. Charles' grin when Almanzo told him he punched Laura's student & she got mad at him is hilarious! 😂😂😂
would like to see some full episodes
Donald Clifft Full episodes are shown on True Entertainment channel here in the UK
I love Little House. Can't get no better.
The real life Mary never married. Neither was she engaged. It was just drama for the tv show.
I have watched this episode over and over again!!!❤🇨🇦❤🇨🇦❤
I really think this is my absolute favorite episode from the whole series.
I am 6 and I love this.I have all nine seasons
My absolute favourite season in LHOTP!!! Laura and Almanzo’s love ❤️ story!!! Thank you for sharing!!! 💖💖💖
Laura and Almonzo are soooooooo cute to together!!!!♡😂😀
Little house on the prairie is my favorite tv show to watch
Michael Landon’s acting in these Almanzo scenes was beyond words. How he managed the most perfectly hysterical facial expressions every time… it adds so much to the scene. I miss this show.
Thank you. When I think about the New system/kingdom I always imagine it being like life in Walnut Grove.
Oh my goodness! This was one of my favorite episodes. I am sitting at my kitchen table watching this with a big Kool- Aid grin on my face. Oh no, I am telling my age for real... Lol.
THAT IS THE TRUE DREAM COME TRUE. HAVING YOUR CRUSH SEE YOU THE WAY YOU HAVE ALWAYS LONG FOR. ❤❤
I love how Laura took Ma's advice❤ At 16, I wish I had known that.
I freakin ❤️ LHOTP!!! 😊😊
I watch it all the time when iam home want to get the tapes when I can find them and have the money it's one of the best shows on TV besides the Waltons etc have a Jesus filled day
I loved their romance when I was in my teens and twenties but now that i am in my late forties and watching it again with their age gap makes my skin crawl!
I LOVE when they KISS!!!😀😙😗💖💗💟💞💝💜
I love this show so much ❤
I'm from Iran and I see this movie in Iran's television and in Iran its very very popular
I Love watching Little House on the Prairie about everyday because that is my show. The old school
Thank you for posting the actual scene and not some montage with music over it. I hate videos that try to put their own music over the dialogue when the talking is part of the romance of it all. Leave videos alone and just post them as is for us! :)
DottyGale8 omg same! I thought I was the only one who thought that 😂
During the filming the sweet sixteen episode it was Laura and almonzo first kiss.
Love this
Almonzo was handsome and kind.
I think Charles always wanted Laura to stay a little girl
Dont all fathers wish for that?
I think that must be the hardest part about being a parent, because eventually your children have to grow up. That's a fear that every parent shares.
She WAS a little girl compared to the man who was interested in her!
I feel as if most fathers do
typical dad I'm sure Almanzo will feel the same way when his daughter becomes interested in someone
Love it
So Hart feeling .
I love little house on the prairie so does my mom Laura is my favorite im also 16
I liked Laura better as a little girl/child. She was always feisty but as she grew up she just got kind of annoying like getting upset over the smallest things, arguing with Almanzo all the time and yelling at her students. I’d say season 6-8 was bad for Laura. Season 9 she finally lightened up and stopped getting upset all the time. Maybe cus she quit teaching
funny how she wanted so much when she finally got him she turned into a witch
@@joannross8412 yes I thought the same thing. Maybe Melissa was so uncomfortable with playing a wife at her age that it was easier for her to bicker with Dean butler than to have to kiss him all the time but I agree Laura was not very nice to him later
It’s sad because In the books Laura wasn’t the one who like manly first. He liked her first. And Pa was more okay with them than ma...
i grew up watching this in australia back in the 1970s
This is a sweet love story between laura and almanzo. They stick together especially when almanzo had a stroke and was bitter not excited about the birth of baby rose. He had to learn how to walk again. He made a full recovery and laura and almanzo grew even closer.
I LOVE THIS SHOW I ALWAYS WILL LOVE THIS SHOW
the best of the sweet 16 would be when she comes out of the school and almanzo sees her as a older for the first time, when almanzo barges into the schoolroom and punches the young boy... that should have been on there
She was not a woman. You mentioned the guy being a young boy, so why do you think she should be seen as a woman? Lots of men like to think that girls are women when they are not.
Yes as he takes her bag while she gets in the wagon he gazes at her in awe. She didnt think he'd ever look at her in a womanly manner.
@@Michelle-pn9xt I didnt say she was a woman, just seemed older to him.
I think the real life Laura was seen as a woman at 16 and ready to marry at 18. That was largely because she could do a woman's work as the wife of a farmer.
I love this episode of Little house 🏠 after all Laura and Almanzo are meant to be together ❤ 💕 💗 ♥ 💖.
Pa was so happy when laura said she had to think about it.😆
Im surprised that Charles is letting Almanzo see Laura with such a big age difference
Good series
Such a sweet courtship between laura and almanzo.
Such a cute scene
I always had a crush on Michael Landon, even as a little girl. I'm a lady, not a guy. It's funny, too, Charles' facial expression when Laura gave Almanzo her answer about the church social!!!! 😂😂😂
You have forgotten many key parts in this video
Almanzo needs a haircut lol
Pearl the rebel. No he doesn’t. He looks totally hot with long hair!
absolutely NOT! Today's haircuts are terrible
